The bird seen at Riocaldo lagoons, Begonte, Lugo last May was seen again on 8.6 (Toño Salazar). See a photo below.

(1) Lugo The bird seen at Riocaldo lagoons, Begonte, Lugo from 23.8.2007 then again in Spring and Autumn 2008 and from January 2009 was seen again at the lagoon

Lesser Flamingo Phoenicopterus minor (1-4,5)

Málaga The four birds at Fuentedepiedra lagoon, one of them in the flamingo breeding colony, Málaga seen during May until the 31.5 presumably made into June. Four birds were seen in the lagoon on 18.6(Paco Chiclana). At least one pair has layed an egg but the adults were not near the creche, where 2000 Greater Flamingo chicks were around (Paco Chiclana). (5) Tarragona An adult was seen at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l'Ebre, on 26.6 (Ricard Gutiérrez, Juan Antonio Lorenzo). This bird was not breeding despite there is a Greater Flamingo colony there and showed no signs of captivity. It had not seen along the whole year (Carles Domingo) so it's a recent arrival to the area. See two photos below and a thumbnail here.

(1) Asturies A bird was found at El Cierrón, Ría de Villaviciosa, Asturies on 11.6 (Adolfo Villaverde Garrido)

Asturies On 2.6 a bird was discovered at Zeluán, Avilés, Asturies (Marco García Gala, Jose Antonio Larriba, Daniel López Velasco; Nacho Vega, Ángeles Pastur). It was seen again on 3.6 (Angeles Pastur, Luis Mario Arce, Daniel Lopez, Xuan Cortés, Marco Garcia) and 4.6 (Daniel López Velasco, Alfonso Rodríguez).The bird remained in the area on 5.6 (Pablo Galiano). (2) Valencia From 22-24.6, a bird was seen at Racó de l'Olla saltmarsh, l'Albufera de Valencia (J.I.Dies, B. Dies, M.Chardí, I.Ruíz and others).

(1) Asturies A 1st summer was found on 2.6 at Zeluán, Avilés, Asturies (Luis Mario Arce, Belén Alonso)

(1) A Coruña. A 1st summer bird was seen on 2.6 at playa de Esmelle, Ferrol, A Coruña (Paco Girón).There are some photos in Antonio Gutiérrez's blog here.

(2) Asturies. A 1st summer was seen at Villamil, Tapia de Casariego, Asturias on 8.6 (Pablo Fernández). The bird remained in the area on 11.6 (Pablo Fernández). See a couple of photos below- It was still in ther area on 18.6 (Pablo Fernández).

3) Pontevedra . On 11.6 a 1st summer was seen at playa de Canido, Vigo, Pontevedra (Yolanda Ozaeta, Esther Abad, Gorka Ocio y Xulio Valeiras). On 12.6 the same bird was seen nearby at Isla de Toralla, Vigo (Xulio Valeiras).

Orange billed-tern Sterna sp. (1-2,3,4)
(1-2) Tarragona The breeding pair seen in late May at Ebro delta within a Sandwich Tern colony and attending a nest presumably continued in that restricted area in June.
new They remained there during the first half of the month (Carles Domingo) but they were not in the colony, already with chicks, on 26.6 (Ricard Gutiérrez, Juan Antonio Lorenzo) so either they deserted the colony or the breeding failed this month. Perhaps the Barcelona bird was one of these (ed. comment).

(3) Barcelona. On 6.6 one of these 'birds' was seen fishing along Llobregat delta beach at El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona (Xavier Larruy, Raul Bastida).

(4) Almería The bird seen from 1.5 at Cabo de Gata saltpans, Almería remained in the area on 24-25.6 (Raimundo Martín).

(1) Asturies. On 11.6 an adult was seen fishing along Salinas beach, Asturies (Daniel López-Velasco)

Cádiz There were at least four birds around Bolonia cave, Cádiz on 3.6, one of them entering in the cave (Bob Hibbett). Four too were seen around the Sierra de la Plata site on Jun 12th (Ernest F.J García)

(5-8) Sevilla There were four at Lora del río, Sierra Norte de Sevilla,Sevilla on 3.6 (Jose Luis Anguita,
Martin Schuck, Alberto Savijn)

(9-14) Cádiz. There were six at Guadalquivir river mouth on 18.6 (Paco Chiclana, Heinz Lunscher, Fernando del Valle y Ricardo Martín-Baylo)

From March 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records committees. See here those rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex, Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included from 2006.



Recent reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC for their knowledge if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind which needs a form to be sent. Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with anew icon. We would welcome to receive a spare copy of those journals using these news for commercial purposes. Contact RG at address at the front page. From April 2005 only news of rarities needing homologation by the Spanish Rarities Committee are included.
