An individual was seen on 23.5 flying N from the vessel 'Nauja' within a project for CEMMA about 12 nautic miles W of Cies Islands, Vigo, Pontevedra (Pablo Covelo, Ángela Llavona, Esther Abad y Xulio Valeiras). (2-3) Valencia. A pair of birds showing elegans features were paired and finally layed an egg in the Sandwich Tern colony at Albufera de Valencia from 7-11.5 (J.Ignacio Dies, B.Dies). One of the birds was the male marked with PVC ring in 2006 in that area that bred that year with a sandvicensis rearing one hybrid young. Seen again in 2007 and 2008 in that area and other Mediterranean locations. See Birding Albufera website for further details (in Spanish) and two photos here and here. Also a photo below (J.Ignacio Dies).Apparently the same pair was relocated in the Ebre Delta, Tarragona on 26.5 (Ricard Gutiérrez) where one of the individuals had been seen the same week at the same place (Carles Domingo). (6) Sevilla. there was an individual at the Sevilla N sierra (Mario Martín, Ricardo Martín-Baylo y Fernando del Valle, Paco Chiclana) (7-8) Cádiz There were seven at the same place and three occupied nests on 31.5 (Bob Hibbett). We consider five of the birds those already reported as (1-5) and therefore two new are added (ed. comment)

by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records

Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus
richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included
from 2006. Recent reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC for their knowledge if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind which needs a form to be sent. Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those.
