(1) Cantabria. A bird coming from late august was seen again at Pedreña, Santander bay on 5-7.12 (Javier G. Aoiz, Verónica López, Guillermo Rodríguez Lázaro, Ugo Mellone, Michelangelo Morganti y Anton David Pérez). See a thumbnail here. Bean Goose Anser fabalis (1)
(1) Palencia On 2.12 onewas at Laguna de Boada, Palencia (Carlos Nazario Bocos).
Pink-footed Goose Anser brachyrhynchus (1-3,4,5-6,7-8,9,10)
(1-3) Palencia. Three on 2.12 and two on 4.12 were seen at Laguna de Boada, Palencia (Carlos Nazario Bocos et al).
(4) Asturies. A bird was seen in flight within a flock of 120 Greylag Geese (Anser anser) near cabo de Busto, Valdés, Asturias on 8.12 (Aldolfo Villaverde).
(5-6) Asturies. The birds at Ría de la Villa, Villaviciosa, Asturies, were seen again on 9.12 (Xuán Cortés). Seen again on 12.12 (Luis Mario Arce; Xuan Cortés, David Álvarez)
(7-8) Asturies. There were 2 new birds at Ría de la Villa, Villaviciosa, Asturies on 8.12 (I.Castelao) that were seen again on 9.12 (Xuán Cortés). See a photo below (with the other 2 brachyrhynchus). Seen again on 12.12, three of the four birds (5-8) would be adults and one a 1w (Luis Mario Arce; Xuan Cortés, David Álvarez)

(9) Palencia. There was one at La Nava lagoon, Palencia on 27.12 (Carlos Nazario Bocos).
(10) Zamora. A bird was found at Villafáfila, Zamora, on 28.12 (Daniel López Velasco, Adolfo Villaverde)

American Wigeon Anas americana (1,2-3)
(1) A Coruña On 20.12 there was a drake at estuario del río Anllons, Ponteceso- A Cabana de Bergantiños, A Coruña (Catuxa Varela y Marcos Otero). It was still there on 27-28.12 (José Luis Rabuñal -he had discovered it quite a few days before- , Jordí Martí Aledo, L. J. Salaverri).
(2-3) A Coruña On 27-28.12 the two females discovered at ensenada da Insua, Ponteceso, A Coruña within the previous ten days (José Luís Rabuñal) were seen in bad conditions (José Luis Rabuñal, Jordí Martí Aledo, L. J. Salaverri).

(1) A Coruña. The juvenile or female found at Valdoviño, A Coruña on 7.11 was seen again on 6.12 (Antonio Fernández Marín, Xabier Remirez Perea y David Calleja Marcos).
Ring-necked
Duck Aythya collaris (1,2,3)
(1) Valencia On 17.12 a male (presumably an adult) was seen at Vedat de Silla, PN Albufera de Valencia (Bosco Dies & Blanca Sarzo). There are some images and comments in the Birding Albufera website here. Given similar dates and observation place all seems to indicate that it is a returning bird (B.Dies in litt.). (2) Pontevedra. On 18.12 a female was seen within a flock of Pochards (Aythya ferina) at Paredes, Enseada de San Simón, Vilaboa (C. D. Romai, T. Lewis). See two photos here. This bird was previously seen in November at As Eiras reservoir, Fornelos de Montes/Ponte Caldelas (O. Martínez).
(3) Ourense. On 30.12 a drake was seen at Miño river, near Ourense town (Alexandre Xusto ; Anton David Pérez, F.Javier Pato). The same location hosted another bird last February 2008, perhaps the same returning bird?.

(1) León On 6.12 a drake was found at Selga de Ordás reservoir, León, presumably the bird seen last month (Alfonso López y Juan Carlos Marín).
(2) Gran Canaria The pair found at Tenefe Saltpans, Santa Lucía, Gran Canaria on 19.11 was still there on 6.12 (Eugenio Hernández, Miguel Avelino).First record for Gran Canaria. See two photos below (Miguel Avelino)

(1) Asturies On 7.12 afternoon a male was found at ría de Ribesella, Asturies (Adrián Vigil Morán; Gabriel Silva).

White Pelican Pelecanus onocrotalus (1)
(1)Lleida The bird at Lleida last month was not seen in early December (R.Gutiérrez, S.Sales) but it was seen again near the Montoliu de Lleida dump on 8.12 (Gerard Bota). Seen and photographed again on 22.12 (Marten van Dijl/ www.charlatanmessiah.com)). See a photo below and a thumbnail here.

Long-legged Buzzard Buteo rufinus (1)
(1) Albacete A bird was seen, photographed and videotaped close to Albacete city on 4.12 (David Cañizares Mata), 5.12 (Rafael Torralba; David Cañizares Mata) and 6.12 (Francisco Tornero, David Cañizares Mata). See a thumbnail here.
Greater Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga (1,2)
(1) Murcia A satellite radio-tracked bird was on 28.11 at Murcia and it may probably begun December there according to the Estonian source of information. Read the Rarebirdspain blog for all the information (in Spanish, English abstract) and the original post here. Seen on 24.12 at El Hondo reservoir, where the bird is overwintering now (César Javier Palacios). Read the original Estonian post here.
(2) Valencia. The bird from Castelló that was observed at Racó de l'Olla reserva, l'Albufera de Valencia on 18.11 was still there on 5.12 (Josep Puentes). Last confirmed sighting on 09.12 (Bosco Dies, Anna Valentín, Pablo Vera y J.I. Dies) and an additional claim on 13.12 (Alex Alamán). (11-12) A Coruña On 27.12 afternoon there were four birds altogether at playa de la Concha, Cariño, A Coruña (Ricardo Hevia). Presumably two could be birds (1) and (3) but at least two would be new in this unprecedented 4-in-a-group sighting (ed. comment).See thumbnails here of the four birds (R.Hevia). There were still four at the same place on 29.12 (Jordi Martí-Aledo, Ricardo Hevia, José Miguel Alonso Pumar).
(13) A Coruña . Another 1w was seen at Pantín beach, Valdoviño, A Coruña on 29.12 (Antonio Gutiérrez).
(14-16) Lugo. There were FOUR 1w at Lago marshes, Lugo on 29.12. At least three new and one that might be bird (2) seen already this month(Jordi Martí-Aledo, Ricardo Hevia, José Miguel Alonso Pumar).

(1) Gipuzkoa There was a 1st or 2nd winter at Plaiaundi, Gipuzkoa on 20.12 (Josean Belzunce, Antxon Otaegui, Eneko Diez y Xabier Gárate)
(2) Bizkaia There was a 1w at Zorroza, Bizkaia on 25.12 (Iván Sarabia).
(3) A Coruña. On 25.12 there was a 1w at playa de Nemiña, Muxía, A Coruña (Xabier Varela).See photos in his blog here and three thumbnails here.

(1) Málaga On 17.12 an adult was seen at 25 m distance flying around the Guadalhorce river mouth, Málaga (Andy Paterson).

(1)A Coruña A 1w was present at Ensenada da Insua, Ponteceso, on 30.12 (Jordí Martí Aledo)
Yellow-browed Warbler Phylloscopus inornatus (1)
(1) Fuerteventura A bird was found at Pájara, Fuerteventura on 15.12 (Manuel Quintana, Conchi O.Ania).
Hume's Yellow-browed Warbler Phylloscopus humei (1) SECOND CLAIM FOR SPAIN, 1ST DUE TO BE SUBMITTED AND ACCEPTED
(1) Asturies. On 6.12 a bird was found at Arnao, Villadún, Castropol (Pablo Fernández García). First thought to be an inornatus the call analysis brought it to be a humei indeed. This is the 1st record of any two-barred warbler in W Asturies, in a place exactly 600 m from the Redpolls site and that of a Little Bunting seen in October 2005 (P.Fernández). Seen later in the afternoon too (P.Fernández, Luis José Salaverri) and on 7.12 (Pablo Fernández, Xabier Remirez Perea y David Calleja) and 8.12 (P.Fernández). Siberian Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita tristis (1)
(1) Asturies. On 5.12 one was found at La Granda reservoir, Gozón, Asturies (Clemente Alvarez Usategui). It was seen again and photographed (there are two thumbnails here) the same afternoon and on 7.12 morning (Manuel Quintana Becerra). Seen and heard (with call similar to those described for tristis) on 8.12 (Xuan Cortés). Seen again on 12.12. New photos and evidence may question the pure identity of the bird as a tristis (Toni López, Clemente Álvarez Usategui).Still there on 15.12 (Clemente Alvarez Usategui).The bird was trapped and ringed on 21.12 (Manuel Quintana, Daniel L. Velasco y Clemente Alvarez) to 22.12 (Nacho Castelao)

(1) Asturies On 4.12 a bird was seen at Penarronda, Castropol, Asturies (Pablo Fernández García).
(2) Asturies. On 5.12 two were seen at Penarronda, Castropol, Asturies (Pablo Fernández García y Daniel Lopez Velasco) presumably one was (1) and (2) was the 2nd. On 6.12 one was seen again (Pablo Fernández García y Gilberto Sanchez Jardón). Seen birds (1) and (2) on 7.12.2008 (Pablo Fernández, Xabier Remirez Perea y David Calleja). 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation
by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records
committees. See here those rarities only for the
Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity
list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex,
Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus
richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included
from 2006.
Recent
reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are
both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail
lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else
than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded
to the Spanish RC if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does
not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind. Gibraltar news are
included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society
but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this
area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors
of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with
a icon. We would welcome to receive
a spare copy of those journals using these news for commercial purposes.
