The 5 Cygnus cygnus (2 ad. & 3 juv.) first seen at ría
de Foz, Lugo, on 9-10.11 were still around on 1.12 (Pablo Fernández), 3.12
(JM Alonso Pumar), 4.12 (L.J.Salaverri) and 5.12
(José Miguel Alonso Pumar) to 9.12 (David Calleja y Xabier Remírez)and
16.12 (L.J.Salaverri).and 27.12 (L.J.Salaverri).
(6-8) Lugo 3 adult individuals were seen on 25.12 at Miño river at downtown
Lugo (Alejandro Álvarez Vázquez, Manuel Vázquez Torrón;

Swan Cygnus columbianus bewickii (1-2)
(1-5) Tarragona Two swans initially identified as Whoopers and possibly in the area since November 2007, were seen in the Mas de Bombita area, near Canal Vell lagoon, Deltebre, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona on 26.12 (Gerard Dalmau, Francesc Dalmau) and 30.12 (Bet Pons, J.L. Copete, Ferran López, Vittorio Pedrocchi,
Arnau Pedrocchi) but when seen more closely correctly identified as Bewick's on 31.12 (Cristian Jensen,
Javier Cotín,
Julio Merayo).

(1) Lugo
The same returning bird (locally named Pepiño) was seen again
at Ria de Foz, Lugo, Galicia on 3.12 (JM Alonso Pumar), 5.12 (José
Miguel Alonso Pumar) and 16.12 (L.J.Salaverri)
and 26.12 (L.J.Salaverri).
(2) Asturies A pure or hybrid bird was seen at La Espasa, Caravia, Asturies, on 1.12
(Xuán Cortés, Tito Lorenzo).Seen again on 8.12 when hybrid
origin was clearly suspected (X.Cortés).See a photo below (X.Cortés).

Besides Pepiño (see above) there is an hybrid, a son of Pepiño,
at the same place this month (Luis José Salaverri) seen again on
16-17.12 (L.J.Salaverri).This bird also has a name and it is locally called
'Josito'and 26-27.12 (L.J.Salaverri).

Teal Anas discors (1)
(1) Lugo
The drake first seen and photographed at Lago lagoon,Xove, Lugo, on 26-29.8,
was still there on 1.12 (M.A.Fernández, J.Sanromán, G.Rodríguez,
L.Mario Arce). But not afterwards after a furtive hunting event (!). Fortunately, relocated on 29.12 at the same pond (Ricardo Hevia)

Duck Aythya collaris (1,2,3,4)
(1) Valencia A 1w drake was
found on 12.12 at Vedat de Silla, PN de l'Albufera, València (Bosco
Díes, Miguel A. Monsalve y Covadonga Viedma).1st record for the
Albufera.See a photo below and two thumbnails here (Bosco
Dies).It moved to Racó de l'Olla reserve, PN l'Albufera de Valencia,
on 17.12 (J.Ignacio Dies).Seen again
on 24.12 (Maties Rebassa, J.Ignacio Dies). It remained until the end of the year.

(2) Illes Balears. A 1w drake
was found at S'Albufera de Mallorca, Illes Balears on 7.12 (Maties
Rebassa). There are photos of this bird here.
(3) Sevilla A drake was at
Veta la Palma, Doñana, Sevilla on 13.12 (Carlos Gutiérrez).
Seen again on 14.12 at Dehesa de Abajo, Puebla del Río, Sevilla
(C.Gutiérrez). Seen again on 15.12 at Dehesa de Abajo (Javier Salcedo).
(4) Fuerteventura. On 30.12 there was a drake at Rosa de Catalina García, Fuerteventura (Pachi Ibarrondo, María Santillán y Javier Portillo)

(1) Lugo The 1w seen at La Linera, Ría del Eo, Lugo/Asturies on 19-20.11
was still there on 2.12 (Pablo Fernández) and 5.12 (José
Miguel Alonso Pumar).Seen again on 8.12 (Cesar
Urruela, Yolanda Ozaeta, Gorka Ocio) and 9.12 (David Calleja y Xabier Remírez).
(2-3) León There were a pair (drake/female) at Selga de Ordás reservoir, León,
on 2.12 (Serafín Alarcón, Conchi Mateos).

(1) A Coruña
On 6.12 a bird was seen at ria de Betanzos, Gandarío, A Coruña
(Amadeo A. Pombo Eirín). It was not seen again despite intensive
search the following days.
(2) Asturies
On 11.12 a probable bird was seen from punta de La Vaca (Elías García,
Daniel López, Manuel Fdez. Pajuelo, Maite Louzao, Jorge valella)

A female or juvenile was seen at Veta la Palma area, Doñana, Sevilla
on 11.12 (Carlos Gutiérrez Expósito).This species will not
be featured in this website from January 2008 onwards.

The bird seen at Riocaldo lagoons, Begonte, Lugo on 23.8 was relocated
on 7.12 (José Otero, Eva Villares, David Calleja y Xabier Remírez)

Shearwater Puffinus assimilis (1-2)
(1-2) Cantabria
On 10.10 two birds were seen at close distance from Cabo Mayor, Santander
(Yves Borremans). One of the birds was presumably the same seen the same
day around the same hour at Cabo Ajo, Cantabria (Jesús Menéndez).

Hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret
Egretta gularis x garzetta (1,2-3,4,5)
(1) Cádiz
On 6.12 the Cádiz bird featured last month as possible pure individual
was seen again (Xurxo Piñeiro, Oscar LLama,Rafael García
Costales). White feathering was snoted on head, carpal area of right wing
and several undercoverts, thus pointing to hybrid.
(2-3) Valencia
There were two presumed hybrids at Marjal del Petxinar, Pinedo, PN L'Albufera
de València on 15.12 (Bosco Dies). One of the birds seems the same
present there on November 2006.See two

On 15.12 the bird from Tancada lagoon, Ebro delta, was seen again on that
place (Cristian Jensen and others /Audouin Birding Tours).
(5) Gran
Canaria On 14.12 a bird was seen at Pozo Izquierdo, Santa Lucía,
Gran Canaria (Miguel Avelino).

Heron Egretta tricolor (1) 1ST FOR SPAIN
(1) Gran
Canaria On 29.11, a 1w was seen at Las Canteras beach, Las Palmas de
Gran Canaria, Canary Islands (Emma Guinart, Eduard González). The
bird was seen again and photographed by an independent couple of observers
on 1.12.2007 (John & Doreen Cooper) who took c.200 photos of the bird
at close range (c.15m!). Both news known on 1.12.2007 afternoon.
Incidentally,
searching throught the web, we've found that the bird was already there
on 15.11 (!) since there
is a photo in the local playa de las Canteras website which is reproduced
below (c.f. Agustín Pérez Armas). More news in the Rarebirdspain
blog. Not seen afterwards! (Ed.note). Check the rarebirdspain blog
for another picture from the beach website.

Three 1w birds were seen entering a roost in Tudela, Navarra on 1.12 (José
Ardaix) and 4.12 (Ricardo Rodríguez).They had been discovered on

Illes
Balears One bird was present at Mallorca island on 20.12 when seen
feeding on crabs along the seashore (Lalo Ventoso). There is a video of
this bird in youtube
here.This species will not be featured in this website from January
2008 onwards.

the Laughing gull was seen again at Blanes, Girona (Quique Carballal).

(1) Málaga On 16.12
a bird seen in february 2007 with ring 'C1KV' was seen at Málaga
harbour (Salvador García).This bird had been ringed at Tampere dump,
Finland (61.54N, 23,9E) as probably female >2cy by Risto Juvaste and has
been seen multiple times in that place since then (R.Juvaste). See a thumbnail

(2) Madrid On 20.12 a 1w
with a yellow PVC ring 'CAS0' was seen at Pinto dump, Madrid (Javier Marchamalo).
The bird, had been ringed as a chick at Luopioinen, Finland (61.28N, 24.3E)
by Risto Juvaste with both the PVC ring and metallic HT-270012.See a photo

The bird that had been seen during last spring and early summer and that
reapperared last September at Cariño, A Coruña, was seen

There were 3 birds on 11.12 and 18.12 (F. J. García Vargas) and at least one on 23.12 (F. J. García Vargas, A. Unquiles Cobos).

From March
2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation
by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records
committees. See here those rarities only for the
Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity
list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex,
Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus
richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included
from 2006.
Recent
reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are
both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail
lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else
than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded
to the Spanish RC if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does
not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind. Gibraltar news are
included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society
but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this
area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors
of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with
a icon. We would welcome to receive
a spare copy of those journals using these news for commercial purposes.
