(1-5) Lugo There were 5 Cygnus cygnus (2 ad. & 3 juv.) at ría de Foz, Lugo, on 9-10.11 (Luis José Salaverri, Germán Torres). The same author found also there on 9.11.2004 a family group of three that overwintered at Foz. (1) Palencia On 5.11 a Pink-footed was seen amongst the 4.000 Greylags (Anser anser) present at laguna de Boada de Campos, Palencia (Carlos Zumalacárregui, Carlos Gonzalez).Still around on 18.11 (Goyo Para, Paco Chiclana) and 24.11 (Iván Sarabia). See thumbnails here

Mandarin Duck Aix galericulata (1-2,3-4,5-6,7)
(1-2) Girona On 3.11 a pair was seen at Sils lagoon, Sils, Girona (David Caballé, Xavier Romera)
(3-4) Bizkaia There were two drakes at Ria de Bilbao, at barrio de La Peña, Bilbao on 11.11. The area is visited on a weekly basis and this is the 1st record for the area (José Luís Pacheco, Cristina Negueruela). See two thumbnails here
(5-6) Asturies On 15.11 a pair was found at Embalse de Trasona, Avilés, Asturies (Pablo Fernández García).
Editorial note: it is curious the simultaneous arrival of this species and the Ruddy Duck, all from C Europe...
(7) Granada A drake was seen at Cubillas resevoir, Granada on 16.11 (José Manuel Tierno).

Green-winged Teal Anas carolinensis (1,2,3)
(1) Asturies The drake seen on 12.10 at El Cierrón, Ria de la Villa, Villaviciosa, Asturies was seen again on 3.11 (Luis Mario Arce) and 4.11 (Xuan Cortés). See a thumbnail here.Still there on 15.11 (Xuan Cortés)
(2) A Coruña A drake found the previous weekend (J.Luis Rabuñal Patiño) was present at Ensenada da Insua, Ponteceso, on 18.11 (J.L.Rabuñal Patiño) and on 20.11 (Luis José Salaverri, Jordi Martí Aledo, Ricard Gutiérrez). See a video in the Rarebirdspain blog. (R.Gutiérrez)
(3) Cantabria On 2.11 a drake was found at Alday marshes, Cantabria (Guillermo Rodríguez). Seen again on 28.11 (Javier Portillo) and 30.11 (Yves Borremans)

(1) Lugo Presumably the same returning bird (locally named Pepinho) was seen again at Ria de Foz, Lugo, Galicia on 2.11 (Iván Sarabia, M.Ondina Fernández).Still there on 11.11 (L.J.Salaverri), 16.11 (M.A.F.Pajuelo, M.Quintana) and 17.11 (Amadeo A. Blue-Winged Teal Anas discors (1)
(1) Lugo The bird seen and photographed at Lago lagoon,Xove, Lugo, on 26-29.8 and again on 18.9, was relocated, now showing it is a drake on 3.11 at Lago, Lugo (Iván Sarabia, M.Ondina Fernández), 15.11 (Luis Mario Arce) and 17.11 (Amadeo A. Ring-necked Duck Aythya collaris (1,2,3,4,5)
(1) León On 2.11 morning a drake was found during the irrigating ponds count at León area. It was with a female Lesser Scaup (Aythya affinis) within a flock of 30 Pochards (Aythya ferina). First they were seen in a small pond at Zuares del Páramo and later they were photographed at Santa Cristina del Páramo pond, León (less than 2 km far from the 1st place). This is the 7th in-a-row winter that Ring-necked Duck is found in León (Carlos Zumalacárregui & David Miguélez).See thumnbails here.
(2) Girona On 5.11 a female was found at PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà (Jordi Martí-Aledo, Àlex Ollé). Seen again on 6.11 (Sergi Sales, Jorge García, Ricard Gutiérrez, Jordi Martí-Aledo, Àlex Ollé) and 7.11 (J.Martí-Aledo). (3) Navarra. On 6.11 afternoon a 1w drake was seen at Zolina reservoir, Navarra within a flock of 282 Pochards (Ricardo Rodriguez ). See two thumbnails here.The bird was seen again on 15.11 (Gorka Gorospe)
(4) Zaragoza . On 9.11 there was one at lagunazo de Moncayuelo, Zaragoza (Diego Villanúa)

Fuerteventura On 25.11 a drake was seen at Catalina García, Fuerteventura (Rob Felix).

Lesser Scaup Aythya affinis (1,2,3)
(1) León On 2.11 morning a female was found during the irrigating ponds count at León area. It was with a drake Ring-necked Duck (Aythya collaris) within a flock of 30 Pochards (Aythya ferina). First they were seen in a small pond at Zuares del Páramo and later they were photographed at Santa Cristina del Páramo pond, León (less than 2 km far from the 1st place). This is the 1st record of Lesser Scaup for the area (Carlos Zumalacárregui & David Miguélez).See thumnbails here.This female or presumably the same was seen again at Selga de Ordás reservoir, León on 24.11 (Carlos Zumalacárregui).
(2) León The drake reported last month at Selga de Ordás reservoir, continued there on 3.11 (Carlos Zumalacárregui) but not seen afterwards.
(3) Lugo One 1w was seen at La Linera, Ría del Eo, Lugo/Asturies on 19-20.11 (Pablo Fernández).

(1) Huesca On 18.11 an adult female Goosander was seen at El Pas resevoir, San Miguel de Cinca, Belver de Cinca, Huesca (Alberto Bueno).There are three previous unsubmitted records in Aragón.

(1) Barcelona. A 1st-calendar year bird was found on 11.11 morning at estany de cal Tet, Llobregat delta, Barcelona (Lluís Gustamante).On 12.11 it was relocated at the same place (Ferran López, Sergi Bosch, Armand Ramal). Last seen alive on 14.11 (F.X.Santaeufemia pers.comm.).See a thumbnail here

Western Reef Egret Egretta gularis (1)
(1) Cádiz On 21.11 a bird, perhaps a 2nd generation hybrid, was photographed at Parque Natural Bahía de Cádiz, near Puerto Rea, Cádiz. It is the bird seen last 25.10.2007 there (Rafael García Costales). See a photo below (R.G.Costales)

Presumed Hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret Egretta gularis x garzetta (1)
(1) Tarragona The resident presumed hybrid of the Tancada area, Delta de l'Ebre, was seen again on 2.11 at Tancada saltpans area (Ricardo Rodríguez).

Tricoloured Heron Egretta tricolor (1) 1ST FOR SPAIN
(1) Gran Canaria On 29.11, a 1w was seen at Las Canteras beach, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands (Emma Guinart, Eduard González). The bird was seen again and photographed by an independent couple of observers on 1.12.2007 (John & Doreen Cooper) who took c.200 photos of the bird at close range (c.15m!). Both news known on 1.12.2007 afternoon.
Incidentally, searching throught the web, we've found that the bird was already there on 15.11 (!) since there is a photo in the local playa de las Canteras website which is reproduced below (c.f. Agustín Pérez Armas). More news in the Rarebirdspain blog.

Sacred Ibis Threskiornis aethiopicus (1,2,3,4-5)
(1) Alicante A bird was seen on 8.11 at Marjal de Pego-Oliva, Alicante (Jules Sykes, Peter Cheesman, Geoff& Christine Isaac).
(2) Barcelona On 16.11 a 1w was found at Filipines marsh, Llobregat Delta, Barcelona (Ferran López, Sergi Bosch, Armand Ramal; Manuel Caamaño).See two thumbnails here.
(3) Tarragona On 15.11 a bird was seen at ricefields close to Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Miquel Àngel López/PNDE/Audouin Birding Tours website).
(4-5) Alicante There were two at El Hondo, Alicante, on 20.11 (Carlos Gutiérrez Expósito).

Greater Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga (1)
(1) Alicante A sub-adult was seen on 2.11 over Vistabella, El Hondo, Alicante (Rosemary Reid & Brian Conduit).Aged as a 2nd winter and seen again on 7.11 afternoon when going to roost at El Hondo with 10 Booted Eagles and a Buzzard (Malcolm Palmer). Still there on 30.11 (Javier Gómez Aoiz, Eduardo de Juana et al).

(1) A Coruña On 24.11 a bird was located at river Mero, Abegondo-Cecebre reservoir, A Coruña (Xabier Varela, Alfredo Álvarez). This would be the 3rd for Galicia (after records at O Porriño and Baiona) but so far there are only two accepted records for Spain up to 2004. Seen again on 25.11 (Jorge Valella, Pablo Fernández, José Guerra, Pablo Miranda, Pedro J Menéndez, Ricardo Hevia, José Miguel Pumar, Tito Salvadores, Cosme Damian Romai, Daniel López Velasco). See thumbnails here.And 26.11 (Clemente Álvarez Usategui, José Antonio García Fernández).On 27.11 stunning photos (see below) were taken (Pablo Gutiérrez, Amadeo Pombo, José Luis Rabuñal).And on 28.11 it was still there (Samuel Paz; Marcos Otero, Eva Villares, David Calleja, Carmen Mouzo, Xabier Varela).So far 35 birders have twitched the individual, quite a score for Spanish standards.

Sociable Plover Vanellus gregarius (1,2,3)
(1) Barcelona On 1.11 afternoon, a bird was found at Remolar-Filipines Nature Reserve, Llobregat delta, Viladecans, Barcelona (Sergi Torné; Joan Castelló). It is the 2nd for the area after a bird seen in late december 1984.See a photo below and a thumbnail here (S.Torné)

(2) Sevilla A 1w was found on 17.11 at Las Cabezas de San Juan ricefields, Doñana area, Sevilla (Rafael Romero, Alberto Savijn, Luis Venâncio, Javier Salcedo).

(3)Lleida On 28.11 a bird, perhaps a 1w, was seen at Barret Picat ridge, Linyola, Lleida (Joan Estrada).On 29.11 and after long search, the bird was relocated quite far from the initial place, at Torre Coca, Linyola to Vallfogona de Balaguer road (UTM x=0323276, y=4622815) (Vittorio Pedrocchi, Rafael Rocaspana).

(1) Tarragona A bird was found on 12.11 at ricefields near Illa de Riu pumping station (Andris Klepers, Inita Sakne, Eugeni Capella, Cristian Jensen/Audouin Birding Tours).

Long-billed Dowitcher Limnodromus scolopaceus (1)
(1) Valencia A 1w reached Racó de l'Olla saltmarsh on 13.11 (J.Ignacio Dies, Miguel Chardí, Bosco Díes, José Luis Terrasa). Observed within a range od 100-180 m distance. Closely associated to a flock of recently arrived Spotted Redshanks Tringa erythopus. A first record for the site.See a thumbnail here.Still present on 16.11 (J.I.Dies) and 19.11 (J.I.Dies).

(1) Fuerteventura On 25.11 a bird was seen at Catalina García, Fuerteventura (Rob Felix). See a thumbnail here.

Spotted Sandpiper Actitis macularius (1)
(1) Asturies The bird found on 16.10 at playa de Bañugues, Gozón, Asturias remained there until late October and presumably into November: seen on 4.11 (Luis Mario Arce).

Laughing Gull Larus atricilla (1)
(1) Girona On 10.11 a Laughing gull, very presumably the famous gull ‘Atze’ (it is metal-ringed) was seen at Tordera river mouth, Blanes. If it is (as expected) Atze would be its return to this area after last year overwintering (Marcel Gil, David Caballé, Javier Romera et al). (1) Barcelona One was heard and seen at the railway station gardens at Sant Andreu de la Barca, Barcelona on 14.11 (Víctor Sanz).

Dusky Warbler Phylloscopus fuscatus (1)
(1) A Coruña A bird was trapped and ringed at Vixán lagoon reedbeds, Corrubedo, Ribeira, Galicia on 8.11 (Manuel Polo Aparisi). It was trapped coinciding with an important influx of Chiffchaffs. It is the 2nd for Galicia.The bird was relocated in some bushes near the Vixan lagoon on 13.11 (Manuel Polo Aparisi).

(1) Pontevedra The bird present since 4.7.2006 at A Laxe de Rons area, O Grove/Ogrobe, Pontevedra, Galicia presumably remained in the area into November 2007
(2) A Coruña The bird that had been seen during last spring and early summer and that reapperared last September at Cariño, A Coruña, was seen again on 9.11 at la Concha beach (J.Miguel Alonso Pumar). Seen briefly again on 16.11 (Carles Carboneras, J.Miguel Alonso Pumar) and on 19.11 (Ricard Gutiérrez, Jordi Martí-Aledo). See a thumbnail here.

(1) Asturies On 1.11 a bird was seen and photographed at Cabo Peñas, Gozón, Asturias (Jorge Valella). It was not relocated again.See a thumbnail here.

Lapland Bunting Calcarius lapponicus (1-2,3)
(1-2) Asturies On 6.11, two birds were seen at Cabo Peñes, Gozón, Asturies (José Antonio García Fernández, Pedro García-Rovés González).One was seen there (one of the previous or another?) on 26.11 within a flock of 100 Skylarks Alauda arvensis (Manuel Fernández Pajuelo).
(2) A Coruña The juvenile seen on 25.10 at Pantín beach, Valdoviño, A Coruña, was seen again on 4.11 (Iván Sarabia, M.Ondina Fernández).See a thumbnail here.

New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex, Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included from 2006.

Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind. Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with a
