(1) Lugo The bird seen and photographed at Lago lagoon,Xove, Lugo, on 26-29.8 was seen again on 18.9 now confirmed as a drake (Amadeo Pombo). See a thumbnail here

(1) Cádiz On 8.9 a bird was seen off Punta Secreta, Getares, Cádiz (Oliver Nüssen, Jan Ole Krigs).


Wilson's Storm Petrel Oceanites oceanicus (1,2)
(1) Pontevedra A bird was seen 10 miles W of Cies islands, Pontevedra (César Vidal et al). This has not been a good year for the species in Atlantic NW Spain (C.Vidal in litt)
(2) Asturies A bird was recorded off Gijón, Asturies in a seawatch on 26.9 (Jorge Valella, César A.Laó, Isolino Pérez, Jaime Galguera, Pablo Fernández, Daniel López Velasco).


Presumed Hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret Egretta gularis x garzetta (1)
(1) Tarragona The resident presumed hybrid of the Tancada area, Delta de l'Ebre, was seen again on 1.9 at Tancada saltpans area (Javier Traín, Antonio Traín, Carlos López, Joan Ferrer). Seen again on 19.9 not there but at ricefields between L'Encanyissada Casa de Fusta and la Nòria areas, also Delta de l'Ebre (Javier Gómez Aoiz). Sacred Ibis Threskiornis aethiopicus (1)
(1) Tarragona On 20.9 a bird was seen near El Poble Nou del Delta on a ricefield (Johan Maes-Van Buynder). There are photos.

Lesser Flamingo Phoenicopterus minor (1)
(1) Toledo On 30.9 an adult was present at laguna de Villacañas, Toledo (Alfonso López, Ángela Molina). This summer there has been an escape at Lillo lagoon, Toledo which was ringed in Belgium. Read more about this last case in the new Rarebirdspain blog.


Rüppell's Vulture Gyps rueppellii (1,2-3)
(1) Cádiz One subadult was seen on 1.9 at La Pena bird observatory, Tarifa (Patric Lorgé et al) and at Algarrobo bird observatory, Tarifa, on 7.9 (Migres Program/ Javier, Emilio, Mariola and David Cuenca).A c.2nd calendar year bird, perhaps the same was seen on 16.9 roosting at cliffs 4km NNE of Bolonia, Cádiz (Staffan Rodebrand)
(2-3) Cádiz  A total of three birds were seen from Cazalla bird observatory, Tarifa, on 23.9 (Juan Ramirez, Carlos sp., Todor Iliev, David Cuenca et al). Presumably one of these had been already seen on 15.9 (T.Todorov) and 17-18.9 at Algarrobo watchpoint, Tarifa (Jules Sykes, Jan Beever, Kim Blasco, Paula Closs, Harry & Val Cooper/Oliva Rama Tours).

Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus (1,2,3)
(1) Navarra On 15.9 afternoon (19:00-19:10), a male, an adult or nearby adult, was seen flying south over Pitillas lagoon, Navarra (Eduardo de Juana, Jordi Prieto, Josefina Maestre, Carmen Fernández, Fernando Barrio, Javier Erdozain, Daniel Torrente, Leire Rodriguez, Gorka Gorospe)
(2) Madrid An adult male was seen at Fuentidueña del Tajo, Madrid on 27.9 (Xurxo Pinheiro; Gabriel Martín).
(3) Navarra On 29.9 a male, different from bird (1) was seen over Pitillas lagoon, Navarra (Javier Erdozain)

(1) Cádiz On 14.9, a 2nd year bird was found at Cazalla, Tarifa, Cádiz. The report wil be submitted to the RC (Santiago Villa, Bobbie Lambert, Patricia Macauly, Pedro J.Ribera/Spainbirds).See a thumbnail here (S.Villa). (1) Lleida On 27.9 a subadult bird was seen soaring over Menàrguens, Lleida, over the road Lleida - Balaguer (Toni Nievas)

(1) Cádiz One seen in the Trafico bird observatory, Tarifa, during the Migres counts (Alberto López and Migres volunteers). Presumably the same juvenile was seen in La Janda, near Cortijo, Los Charcones, on 25.9 afternoon. See a photo below (Stephen Daly/Andalucian Guides).

(1) Valencia The bird found on 29.8 at Sueca (ricefields of partida de La Llonga, L’Albufera Natural Park), was seen again and photographed on 6.9 at the same place (J.Ignacio Dies). White-rumped Sandpiper Calidris fuscicollis (1)
(1) Girona The first for Girona province was one adult at estanys del Matà, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà from 2.9 (Jordi Martí-Aledo,Teresa Montràs; Àlex Ollé,  Pere Serrano; Martí Rodríguez, Roger Jutglà , Joan Ventura), present until the afternoon of 5.9 (Ramon Fortià and Jordi Martí-Aledo). Not seen afterwards, the bird was seen by more than 25 birders and it is also the third for Catalonia.See two photos below and thumbnails here .More information at at Ornitho-Empordà website

(2) Barcelona A juvenile was found at Maresma de les Filipines, RN Remolar -Filipines, Delta del Llobregat on 8.9 (Quique Carballal). It was last seen the following day (Ferran López). Relocated on 18.9 (Ferran López, Vittorio Pedrocchi) and 19.9 (Pedro Bescós; Manolo García)
(3-4) A Coruña Two birds were seen on 6.9 (Alfredo Álvarez, Xabier Varela), 7.9 (C.D.Romai, Atocha Ramos, Carmen Mouzo, Xabier Varela), 9.9 (X.Varela) and 11.9 at Sabón reservoir, Arteixo, A Coruña (Ricardo Hevia, José Miguel Alonso Pumar).See two thumbnails here and more photos at the Xabier Varela blog.The two birds were last seen on 14.9 (X.Varela). 
(5) A Coruña On 17.9 an adult was seen in another place of the Sabon reservoir (Carmen Mouzo, Alfredo Álvarez, Xabier Varela). This bird remained there on 19.9 (Roberto Vidal, Xabier Varela) and 23.9 (X.Varela)
(6) Girona The bird found at El Matà, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, on 23.9 (Àlex Ollé) was still present on 24.9 (A.Ollé), 27.9 (Àlex Ollé, Jorge Gracia)  and 29.9 (Àlex Ollé).

(7) Valencia A juvenile was found on 25.9 at Tancat de la Ratlla, Silla, L'Albufera de València, València (Bosco Dies, Toni Alcocer). It was ringed on 27.10 (F.Javier García i Gans; Pedro Marín).Besides a metallic ring in its left leg, it was ringed with a pvc combination of a white and orange ring in its right leg.

Broad-billed Sandpiper Limicola falcinellus (1-2)
(1-2) TarragonaOn 1.9 two birds (ad and juvenile) were seen at Goleró area, PN Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Javier Traín, Antonio Traín, Carlos López, Joan Ferrer). One remained the following day (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé).On 8.9 (Raphaël Lebrun, Eva Andreu) and 10.9 the Goleró bird was seen again (Roser Solé, Josep Tantull). Relocated on 19.9 (Ricard Gutiérrez, Emma Guinart) and 20.9 (Javier Gómez Aoiz) to 23.9 (Bet Pons, Vittorio Pedrocchi).

(1) Girona The 1w bird found at El Matà, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà on 24.9 (Àlex Ollé) and later seen by others (Sergi Sales; Oriol Clarabuch, Steve Kelling, Oriol Morales) was the 2nd for the area after the September 2006 sighting. (1) Madrid A bird was seen and photographed at Embalse de Pedrezuela, Guadalix de la Sierra, Madrid on 6.9 (Daniel Diaz, Jose Portillo). See two thumbnails here (José Portillo). Seen during the weekend 8-9.9 by many observers in one rather busy twitch for central Spain standards (José Matasanz, Carlos Sánchez, Carlos Andrés, Roberto de la Peña, Alfredo Ortega, Gabriel Martín et al). Still present on 11.9 (Delfín González, Miguel Juan) and 14.9 (Javier Portillo, José Portillo).This is the first-ever record of the species for Madrid.

(5) Murcia On 27.9 a third bird was seen at San Pedro del Pinatar. Differences from the two previous birds (see above) were established on the basis of plumage differences (Richard Howard). See a thumbnail here

(1) Bizkaia On 13.9, on board of Pride of Bilbao, c.80 nautic miles off Santurtzi, a juvenile, pale phase bird, was seen (Gorka Ocio et al)
(2) Pontevedra An adult was seen 10 miles W of Cies islands, Pontevedra (César Vidal et al)
(3-5) Asturies 3 birds were seen on passage off Punta de la Vaca, Gozón, Asturies on 18.9 (Nacho Vega, Marco Galán, David Álvarez, Pedro J.Menéndez, Daniel López Velasco, Jorge Valella).
(6) Asturies A juvenile was seen on passage off Punta de la Vaca, Gozón, Asturies on 22.9 ( Daniel López Velasco, Jorge Valella).
(7-8) A Coruña On 23.9 two 1w were seen flying past Estaca de Bares, A Coruña (Antonio Sandoval)
(9-10) Asturies Two juveniles were seen on passage off Punta de la Vaca, Gozón, Asturies on 25.9 ( Daniel López Velasco, Jorge Valella, César A.Laó, Pablo Fernández, Pedro J.Menéndez, Nacho Vega et al).
(11) Asturies One or two birds were seen off Gijón, Asturies in a seawatch on 26.9 (Jorge Valella, César A.Laó, Isolino Pérez, Jaime Galguera, Pablo Fernández, Daniel López Velasco).
(12-15) Asturies Three birds were seen on passage from Punta de la Vaca, Gozón, Asturies, on 26.9 too (Jorge Valella, Daniel López Velasco, Elías García Sánchez).
(16) Asturies The same 26.9 an adult was seen from the same hotspot of La Vaca (Elías García Sánchez).
(17) Valladolid INLAND RECORD. A juvenile dark morph of this species was seen at Unión de Campos, Valladolid on 30.9 (Juan Sagardia)
(18) Gran Canaria An adult was seen on 29.9 at Charca de Maspalomas, Gran Canaria island, at close distance, during 15 minutes, when it flew continously over the pond after coming from the sea (rough, due to a gale) (Miguel Avelino)

(2) Asturies A juvenile was recorded on passage off Punta de la Vaca, Gozón, Asturies on 26.9 (Elias García-Sánchez).

Paddyfield Warbler Acrocephalus agricola (1)
(1) Alicante On 10.9 an adult was trapped at Marjal de Pego-Oliva (Jules Sykes). It was carrying a Spanish ring. It had been ringed on 6.3.2007 at Ivars lagoon, Vila-Sana, Lleida. (1) Asturies On 29.9 a bird was heard and seen near Punta de la Vaca, Gozón, Asturies (Nacho Castelao).

(1) Málaga A bird seen the week of 15-18.1 at Club Miraflores, Fuengirola was seen again on 24.9 (Gary Jasper)

(1) Pontevedra The bird present since 4.7.2006 at A Laxe de Rons area, O  Grove/Ogrobe, Pontevedra, Galicia was still around on 3.9.2007 (Cosme Damián Romai). Seen again on 19.9 (C.D.Romai)
(2) A Coruña  On 3.9 the bird that had been seen during last spring and early summer reapperared at Cariño, A Coruña, on 3.9 near the harbour of the village (Jose M. Alonso Pumar).On 18.9 was seen again at the same beach (Ricardo Hevia, José Miguel Alonso Pumar)

September 2007 overview. The Black-winged Pratincole at Valencia was the most interesting bird of late August and early September, while a White-rumped Sandpiper at Girona, the 3rd for Catalonia deserved attention. The month was the best-ever known for Long-tailed Skua. Towards the end, arrival of some nearctic waders to the Mediterranean shores was interesting
Resumen de Septiembre 2007. La Canastera alinegra de Valencia fue la cita más interesante de finales de agosto y principios de mes. Un Correlimos Culiblanco en Catalunya (el 3º) llamó la atención de 25 observadores. EL mes fue el mejor que se recuerda para el paso de Págalo Rabero. Hacia el final, algunos limícolas neárticos en el Mediterraneo fueron de interés
Resum de Setembre 2007. La Perdiu de mar d'ala negra de l'albufera de València va ser l'ocell més interessant de finals d'agost i principis de mes. Un territ cuablanc als Aiguamolls va ser el 3r de Catalunya i va congregar 25 observadors. El més va ser el millor que es recorda per al pas del Paràsit Cuapunxegut. Cap a la fi del mes, alguns limicoles neàrtics van ser d'interès.

From March 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records committees. See here those rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex, Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included from 2006.



Recent reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind. Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with a  icon. We would welcome to receive a spare copy of those journals using these news for commercial purposes. Contact RG at address at the front page. From April 2005 only news of rarities needing homologation by the Spanish Rarities Committee are included.
