From March 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records committees. See here rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and will not be included in 2006.

Pink-footed Goose* Anser brachyrhynchus (1,2)
(1) Asturies On 5.10, a bird was found at Embalse de la Granda, Asturies (Elias García Sánchez, Jorge Valella, Nacho Vega, Daniel López Velasco).
(2) Lugo At ria de Foz, a bird was seen associated to Greylag Geese on 28.10 (Ricardo Hevia). See a thumnail here

(1) Palencia At laguna de Boada, Panencia, there was a bird on 31.10 (Fernando Jubete)


Egyptian Goose* Alopochen aegyptiaca (1-3,4,5)
(1-3) Girona On 5.10 there were three individuals, at least two adults, at Tordera river mouth, Blanes, Girona (Ricard Gutiérrez, A.Broncca). See a thumbnail here

(1) Cáceres A drake in eclipse plumage was seen at Saucedilla, Arrocampo reservoir, Cáceres (Javier Briz). See a thumbnail here


American Black Duck* Anas rubripes (1)
(1) Lugo The bird arrived on 1.9 to ensenada de Eseiro-Feás, Cariño, A Coruña and later seen at Ria de Foz, Lugo, was seen again on 5.10 (José Miguel Alonso Pumar, Ricardo Hevia, Jesús Ángel Ríos)


Was Cinnamon Teal* Anas cyanoptera(1) now believed to be a Blue-Winged Teal Anas discors
(1) Fuerteventura A possible female was seen and photographed on 27.10. If confirmed (or aged as a juvenile instead) could this be a genuine vagrant to the WP? It was recorded at Rosa Catalina García, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria (Paco Chiclana, José Luis Anguita, Manuel Villaécija). 


Ring-necked Duck* Aythya collaris(1)
(1) Fuerteventura A drake was seen and photographed on 27.10 at Rosa Catalina García, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, probably the same seen on 25.10 at Rosa del Taro, Fuerteventura (Paco Chiclana, José Luis Anguita, Manuel Villaécija) and 23.10 near Tuineje, Fuerteventura (Ángela Molina, Alfonso López López)

(1) Tarragona The nearly resident presumed hybrid of Ebre delta, Tarragona was seen again at la Tancada lagoon on 31.10 (Crisitan Jensen)


White Pelican Pelecanus onocrotalus (1)
(1) Pontevedra An individual was found on 5.10 at Arnosa, Sanxenxo, seen from A Chanca, Dena, Meaño, Pontevedra, apparently the same seen on 7.9 at A Coruña (Samuel Paz, Xurxo Pinheiro). See a photo below (Samuel Paz).It was still present on 6.10 (Emilio Martínez Sabarís) and seen flying south at Montalvo coastal area, Sanxenxo on 9.10 (Sociedade Galega d'Ornitoloxia)

Rüppell's Vulture* Gyps rueppellii (1)
(1) Cádiz. On 6.10 a bird was released into the wild at Algarrobo bird observatory, Tarifa, Cádiz within the World Birdwatch celebration program.The bird, a 1w, had been found very week at Algeciras harbour and was recovered at Castellar Zoo, Cádiz where it was recovered. It was ringed with a PVC yellow ring labelled '3F5' in its right tarsus and three of its right wing primaries were decoulored to facilitate its recognition in flight (COCN). See a photo below. .Long-legged Buzzard* Buteo rufinus (1)
(1) Málaga On 30.10 at bird was seen and photographed at Marbella, Málaga (Kevin Wade). See thre thumbnails here.


Lesser Spotted or Greater-Spotted Eagle* Aquila pomarina/clanga (1)
(1) Castelló On 8.10 a large eagle migrating SW was seen over Desierto de las Palmas Natural Park, Cabanes, Castelló (Vicent Esteller Turlo). The bird was an adult and apparently looked like a Lesser Spotted Eagle but since no all diagnostic features could be noted, it will be submitted as either pomarina or clanga (author comment)


Lanner* Falco biarmicus (1)
(1) Valencia An adult male was found apparently exhausted at El Saler beach, Valencia, on 6.10 and was taken to the recovery center of Generalitat Valenciana (CRF Granja del Saler). It was released on 17.10 in healthy condition at the same locastion. Bird plumage wand measurements were compatible with North African race erlangeri and no sign of captivity origin was noted.

(1) Bizkaia On 4.10, a bird was seen at Urdaibai, Bizkaia (Vizcaya) (Rosa Jiménez Cubero, Javier Zalba). See a thumbnail here

(1) Lanzarote A juvenile was found on 15.10 at La Santa, Tinajo, Lanzarote, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Antonio Unquiles, F.Javier García Vargas). See a photo below (F.Javier García) and two thumbnails here

Pectoral Sandpiper* Calidris melanotos (1-2,3-4,5-6,7-8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15)
(1-2) Valencia On 2.10 two juveniles were seen at Tancat de l'Illa, El Palmar, L'Albufera de València (Toni Alcocer, Bosco Dies). These birds are some of the already found by late September in the same area. See a photo below of one of the birds (T.Alcocer).On 3.10 both birds were at the same place (Isabel Bischoping, Toni Alcocer). But in the same field there were FOUR altogether on 4.10 (T.Alcocer) Only one remained on 9.10 (Bosco Dies)

(3-4) Valencia On 4.10 there were four unringed Pectoral Sandpipers altogether at Tancat de l'Illa, El Palmar, L'Albufera de València (two were birds 1-2 and the other two had arrived on 4.10, since there were only two the previous day (T.Alcocer).Three birds (from the 1-4 birds here) remained at Tancat de l'Illa on 11.10 (Bosco Dies) but none were seen the following day (B.Dies).
(5-6) Girona On 4.10 there were two altogether at El Matà, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà. One of the birds is the same seen in the area since 26.9, where present with yet another juvenile found on 16.9 but gone the same 26.9. The new bird is much bigger than the two late September birds, the 3rd juvenile and 4th bird all in all this autumn in that area (Jordi Martí-Aledo).Both birds remained in the area on 7-8.10 (Jordi Martí-Aledo) and on 10.10 (J.Martí-Aledo) and until 12.10 when last seen (Jordi Martí-Aledo).
(7-8) Tarragona The juvenile birds arrived on 26.9 to Platja dels Prats, Vila-Seca, Tarragona were seen again on 1.10 (Rafael Armada, Jane Nethercote). See a photo below of both birds in flight (Rafael Armada). Last seen on 2.10 morning (Pere Josa)

(9) Navarra The bird arrived on 22-23.9, a bird, apparently an adult, was seen at Embalse de las Cañas, Biana, Navarra- Possibly this same bird, now identified as a juvenile, was located on 5.10 (Óscar Gutiérrez)
(10)Tenerife A bird found on 24.9 at El Fraile, Tenerife, Canary Islands, was relocated on 1-2.10 (Nereida Herrera)
(11) Navarra Another juvenile was found at Rada ricefields, Navarra, on 5.10 (Ricardo Rodríguez). See a thumbnail here
(12) Barcelona A juvenile was seen and photographed at Maresma de les Filipines, Viladecans, Llobregat delta, Barcelona only for a while on 10.10 (Ferran López, Joan Castelló, Suni Garcia Boix).
(13) Cádiz On 14.10, a juvenile was found at Laguna de Medina, Cádiz (J.L.Anguita, M.Villaécija, P.Chiclana). See a thumbnail here
(14)Lanzarote A juvenile moulting to 1w was seen at Puerto del Carmen, Tías, Lanzarote, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on 24.10 (F.Javier García Vargas, Antonio Unquiles) See a thumbnail here
(15)La Palma A bird was found at Estanque de los Hoyos, Tazacorte, La Palma island, S.C.Tenerife on 25.10, coinciding with a Lesser Yellowlegs  (J.Antonio Lorenzo)

(1) A Coruña The bird found at Embalse das Forcadas, A Coruña on 27.9 was still in the same area on 3.10 (Pablo Gutiérrez).Still there on 10.10 (David Martínez Lago)
(2)La Palma A bird was found at Estanque de los Hoyos, Tazacorte, La Palma island, S.C.Tenerife on 23,25 and 26.10 (J.Antonio Lorenzo)

(1) Cádiz On 11.10 a bird was found at Chipiona coast, Cádiz (Paco Chiclana)
(2) Cádiz On 9.10 another had been seen at Cádiz bay (José Ardaiz).

(1) Murcia On 14.10 a juv/1w bird was seen at San Pedro del Pinatar saltpans, Murcia (José Ardaiz)See thumbnails here
(2) A Coruña On 17.10 a bird was found at laguna de Muro, Porto do Son (Samuel Paz).See thumbnails here
(3) A Coruña On 19.10, a bird was found at Cecebre reservoir, between Abegondo and Betanços, A Coruña (Xurxo Pinheiro). It is perhaps only the 3rd Galcia record after the 2nd (see above) came just a couple of days before.On 29.10 a bird was seen at the same place and it's probably a relocation of this same bird (Xabier Varela)

(1) Valencia The adult found on 2.8 in bad condition at Racó de l'Olla, PN l'Albufera de València and released after recovery on 19.9 (marked with PVC ring coded 272) was seen at the releasing location, on 5.10 at Gola de Pujol (J.Ignacio Dies). See a thumbnail here.Still there on 9.10 (Bosco Dies)

(1-2) Lleida After August record inland at Huesca, two birds reported as of this species were seen at Ivars lagoon, Ivars d'Urgell, Lleida on 27.10 (Arnau Bonan)


Elegant Tern* Sterna elegans(1)
(1) Huelva On 3.10, an unringed adult apparently clearly fitting this species (there is some controversy with the presence of this taxon in the WP, ed. comment) was seen at Marismas del Odiel, Huelva (Carlos Gutiérrez Expósito). See a photo below.

(1) Cádiz. A single bird was seen flying in Cadiz beaches, near Guadalquivir river mouth on 9.10 (José Ardaiz) and 11.10 (Paco Chiclana).


Paddyfield Warbler* Acrocephalus agricola (1)
(1) GironaAn adult bird was trapped and ringed at Estanys de Palau, Parc Natural Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, on 9.10 (Sergi Sales). See a photo below and two thumbnails here

Lesser Whitethroat* Sylvia curruca(1)
(1) Tarragona On 2.10 morning, an exhausted bird was gathere at downtown Tarragona, near the 'balcó del Mediterrani' close to the sea-shore. The bird was very tired but after a while, it has recovered and continued its flight, presumably southwards (Eduard García Tinedo)


Yellow-browed Warbler* Phylloscopus inornatus(1,2,3,4,5)
(1) Asturies On 7.10, a bird was found at Cabu Peñes, Gozón, Asturies (José Antonio García Fernández). The first this autumn.
(2) Valencia On 17.10 a bird was seen all day long in decidous forest around the Albufera de Valencia management office at El Palmar, València, first heard then seen (Bosco Dies, Anna Valentín).This bird remained exactly in the same area at least until 21.10 (Bosco Dies, Toni Alcocer, Isabel Bischoping, Clemente Álvarez).
(3) Illes Balears Menorca. On 18.10 a bird was trapped and ringed at S'Albufera des Grau, Menorca (Emili Garriga). See a thumbnail here
(4) València On 30.10 a bird was found and photographed at Devesa forest, l'Albufera de València, València feeding on a White Poplar (Populus alba) its voice being heard several times (J.Ignacio Dies, Miquel Chardí). Record linked with a strong influx of Turdidae and Sylvidae passerines and apparently not the same bird observed on 17-21.10 at the same location, c. 1800 meters due SSW. See a thumbnail here

(1) Pontevedra A juvenile bird of this species (apparently ssp. isabellinus) has been found the afternoon of 30.10 at Rouxique, Sanxenxo, Pontevedra (Emilio Martínez-Sabarís, Samuel Paz, Xurxo Pinheiro). (1) Burgos On 1.10, a juvenile was seen at the Ebro reservoir (pantano del Ebro) nerar Cabañas, Cantabria (Guillermo Rodríguez)
(2) Barcelona On 22.10 a 1w was found near La Ricarda lagoon, El Prat de Llobregat, Llobregat delta, Barcelona (Marcel Gil; Ferran López). See a photo below (F.López)

Pied Crow* Corvus albus (1)
(1) Pontevedra. The adult found on 19.8 at com Ruivo, O Grobe, Pontevedra was relocated at the same place on 5.10 and it seems it will be a long-stayer (Samuel Paz)The bird was still in the area of A Laje de Rons and Porto dos Padroneses on 14.10 (Cosme Damian Romai). The bird has become 'famous' amongst some local people that have begun saying 'mais raro que o Corvo de Nocha' ('rarer than the Nocha's crow) after Nocha's being the owner of a shop near the crow's feeding area.


American Redstart* Setophaga ruticilla (1) FIRST FOR SPAIN
(1) Cádiz A male was almost killed by the observer's car at La Janda ricefields, Cádiz. The bird crossed in front of the car at 3 m distance and latger was relocated  and seen for 2,5 minutes at 25 meters distance (Andy Paterson). This is the first record for Spain when accepted.


Lapland Bunting* Calcarius lapponicus (1,2,3)
(1) Asturies On 12.10, a bird was found in the piers at Cabo Negro, Asturies within a Skylark flock (Adolfo Villaverde)
(2) Asturies On 12.10, another bird, this possibly a juvenile, wa seen at Cabo Peñes, Gozón, Asturies (Clemente Álvarez Usategui).See a thumbnail here
(3) Pontevedra An adult male was seen at Melide beach, Costa da Vela, Cangas do Morrazo on 1.10 (David Álvarez Graña and others). This is the first record for the province (Sociedade Galega d'Ornitoloxia)
