On 6.10 a bird was released into the wild at Algarrobo bird observatory,
Tarifa, Cádiz within the World Birdwatch celebration program.The
bird, a 1w, had been found very week at Algeciras harbour and was recovered
at Castellar Zoo, Cádiz where it was recovered. It was ringed with
a PVC yellow ring labelled '3F5' in its right tarsus and three of its right
wing primaries were decoulored to facilitate its recognition in flight
(COCN). See a photo below. This bird was seen again at the same site on

On 8.10 a large eagle migrating SW was seen over Desierto de las Palmas
Natural Park, Cabanes, Castelló (Vicent Esteller Turlo). The bird
was an adult and apparently looked like a Lesser Spotted Eagle but since
no all diagnostic features could be noted, it will be submitted as either
pomarina
or clanga (author comment)

An adult male was found apparently exhausted at El Saler beach, Valencia,
on 6.10 and was taken to the recovery center of Generalitat Valenciana
(CRF Granja del Saler). It was released on 17.10 in healthy condition at
the same locastion. Bird plumage wand measurements were compatible with
North African race erlangeri and no sign of captivity origin was
noted.

On 2.10 two juveniles were seen at Tancat de l'Illa, El Palmar, L'Albufera
de València (Toni Alcocer, Bosco Dies). These birds are some of
the already found by late September in the same area. See a photo below
of one of the birds (T.Alcocer).On 3.10 both birds were at the same place
(Isabel Bischoping, Toni Alcocer). But in the same field there were FOUR
altogether on 4.10 (T.Alcocer) Only one remained on 9.10 (Bosco Dies)

Valencia
On 4.10 there were four unringed Pectoral Sandpipers altogether at Tancat
de l'Illa, El Palmar, L'Albufera de València (two were birds 1-2
and the other two had arrived on 4.10, since there were only two the previous
day (T.Alcocer).Three birds (from the 1-4 birds here) remained at Tancat
de l'Illa on 11.10 (Bosco Dies) but none were seen the following day (B.Dies).
(5-6) Girona
On 4.10 there were two altogether at El Matà, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà.
One of the birds is the same seen in the area since 26.9, where present
with yet another juvenile found on 16.9 but gone the same 26.9. The new
bird is much bigger than the two late September birds, the 3rd juvenile
and 4th bird all in all this autumn in that area (Jordi Martí-Aledo).Both
birds remained in the area on 7-8.10 (Jordi Martí-Aledo) and on
10.10 (J.Martí-Aledo) and until 12.10 when last seen (Jordi Martí-Aledo).

The juvenile birds arrived on 26.9 to Platja dels Prats, Vila-Seca, Tarragona
were seen again on 1.10 (Rafael Armada, Jane Nethercote). See a photo below

The bird arrived on 22-23.9, a bird, apparently an adult, was seen at Embalse
de las Cañas, Biana, Navarra- Possibly this same bird, now identified
as a juvenile, was located on 5.10 (Óscar Gutiérrez)

A bird found on 24.9 at El Fraile, Tenerife, Canary Islands, was relocated
on 1-2.10 (Nereida Herrera)

Another juvenile was found at Rada ricefields, Navarra, on 5.10 (Ricardo

A juvenile was seen and photographed at Maresma de les Filipines, Viladecans,

On 2.10 morning, an exhausted bird was gathere at downtown Tarragona, near
the 'balcó del Mediterrani' close to the sea-shore. The bird was
very tired but after a while, it has recovered and continued its flight,
presumably southwards (Eduard García Tinedo)

On 17.10 a bird was seen all day long in decidous forest around the Albufera
de Valencia management office at El Palmar, València, first heard
then seen (Bosco Dies, Anna Valentín).This bird remained exactly
in the same area at least until 21.10 (Bosco Dies, Toni Alcocer, Isabel
Bischoping, Clemente Álvarez).

Balears Menorca. On 18.10 a bird was trapped and ringed at S'Albufera

On 30.10 a bird was found and photographed at Devesa forest, l'Albufera
de València, València feeding on a White Poplar (Populus
alba) its voice being heard several times (J.Ignacio Dies, Miquel Chardí).
Record linked with a strong influx of Turdidae and Sylvidae passerines
and apparently not the same bird observed on 17-21.10 at the same location,

The adult found on 19.8 at com Ruivo, O Grobe, Pontevedra was relocated
at the same place on 5.10 and it seems it will be a long-stayer (Samuel
Paz)The bird was still in the area of A Laje de Rons and Porto dos Padroneses
on 14.10 (Cosme Damian Romai). The bird has become 'famous' amongst some
local people that have begun saying 'mais raro que o Corvo de Nocha'
('rarer than the Nocha's crow) after Nocha's being the owner of a shop
near the crow's feeding area.

A male was almost killed by the observer's car at La Janda ricefields,
Cádiz. The bird crossed in front of the car at 3 m distance and
latger was relocated and seen for 2,5 minutes at 25 meters distance
(Andy Paterson). This is the first record for Spain when accepted.
