for Catalonia found on 12.11 at Estany d'en Turies,an adult female, PN
Aiguamolls de l'Empordà remained there on 1.12 (J.Martí-Aledo,
R.Gutiérrez, A.Broncca) and on 2.12 (F.López, A.Ollé,
X.Macià) and on 5.12 (Lluís Gustamante). Possibly a different
female/1w,according to facial pattern was found on 23.12 at P.N.Aiguamolls
de l'Empordà, Girona too, while the 1st bird had been last seen
on 5.12, despite throrough searchs and wildfowl counts (J.Martí-Aledo,
T.Montràs).
A Ring-necked
Duck and a Tufted Duck at Estany d'en Turies, PN Aiguamolls. When properly
seen, field characters are straightforward... but in bad light conditions,
while resting and at long distance things may not be so obvious. Who is
who? Left bird is the vagrant. Note the upraised tail, shape of crown,
and paler flanks plus slightly different shape of limit wing-flanks as
well.

one of the Ibises that linger around the Guadalhorce river mouth, Málaga
thought to be from probable captive origin, behaved strangely when it went
in direct flight into the sea, towards Morocco, until it was lost in the
horizon (Andy Paterson).

(1) After
the 2004 sighting in the Rioja-Navarra area, another bird was reported
in the same N Spain area: on 28.12, a 1w was found at Zudaire, Navarra
(UTM x:570358, y:4736467). It was in the S slope of the Urbasa mountain
range, feeding on carrion associated to Griffon Vultures (Ainara Cortés,

FOR SPAIN
(1) On 3.12,
an adult was seen and photographed at Port de Palma de Mallorca, Mallorca,
Balearic Islands (Jordi Muntaner). It was ringed with a PVC white ring
coded C8UY. It had been ringed as young, out of the nest on 30.6.2001 at
Hauho, Finland (61.15 N/ 24.35E) by Risto Juvaste. The bird was seen again
on 12.12 (Miguel McMinn, Ana Rodriguez). This is the first proven (through
evidence not only recoveries) Baltic Gull in Spain despite there are two
other recoveries of birds ringe in the fuscus area in Spain. See
