Mute Swan Cygnus olor. There was one at Segre river, c.5 km W of Lleida, towards Fraga, on 2.2. (Ramon Maria Batlle).On 2.2 there were 2 at Aiguabarreig Segre-Cinca, La Granja d'Escarp, Lleida (Guillem Chacón).On 12.2 three 1w were seen at close range flying N from cabo Huertas (Cap de l'Horta), Alacant (Antonio Ortuño, José Manuel López Molina).The two birds at Llobregat delta, Barcelona, remained between Filipines marsh and cal Tet area at least until 15.2 (R.Gutiérrez, F.X.Santaeufemia).At Balsa de Zolina, Aranguren, Navarra, there was an adult on 4,6,11,13,14 and 15.2. On 16.2 it remained there and it was joined by an immature that remained until 27.2 (Gorka Gorospe).There were 3 at Alacant province on 23.2 (Elias Gomis). (1) The adult found at Santoña NR, Cantabria on 29.12.2004 was still there on 1-8.2.2005 (Alejandro García-Herrera;J.Aja, J.Marchamalo, A.Sanz;D.L.Velasco). Brent Goose Branta bernicla.There were 3 birds at Santoña, Cantabria on 1.2 (Alejandro García-Herrera) and 2 on 13.2 (Juanma Domínguez).There was one at ria de la Villa, Villaviciosa on 6.2 (Adolfo Villaverde).There was one at Azud de Riolobos, Salamanca on 7.2 (José Miguel Colorado) and 8.2 (Miguel Rouco ,see a thumbnail here) to 11.2 (Ángel González Mendoza).The official census for Santoña NR gave 2 birds on 10.2 (A.García Herrera, J.Gómez-Navedo/SEO-BirdLife, J.Aja) but 3 on 13.2 (G.Ocio). Ruddy Shelduck Tadorna ferruginea. On 12.2 there were 7 at Santillana reservoir, Manzanares el Real, Madrid. This is the largest-ever party recorded in Madrid beating a 1994 record of six birds (Juan M.Ruiz) There were 2 at Catalina Garcia, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, on 5.2 and 16 (!) at Los Molinos reservoir, Fuerteventura on 6.2 (Abraham Fernández, Joaquín Vizcaino, Juan Pedro Castro).From next month on this species is withdrawn from this website

American Wigeon* Anas americana(1,2) A fourth drake was found in early February at O Bao marshes, O Grove (Ogrobe), Galicia (Galiza) (Xurxo PInheiro). On 6.2 it was relocated at the same place (Cosme Damiam Romai)(36) 1 puntoStill the four drakes there on 22.2 (Emilio Martínez Sabarís)
(2) The drake at ria de Eo, Asturies/Lugo was still three on 7.2, near Muro de Lamas (Pablo Fernández) and 8.2 (David Calleja, María Perez).
 
Ring-necked Duck*Aythya collaris(1,2,3) 
(1)There pair at embalse de As Forcadas, A Coruña, seen on 2.1 were still there on 1.2 (D.Calleja Marcos, G.Martínez, J.Usera).The female was seen again on 19.2 (Antón Pérez) and again the pair on 26.2 (Antonio Gutiérrez).
(2)On 5.2 there was a female at Santa Cristina del Páramo pond, León. This bird had been seen in January with another female but only one was relocated on 5.2 (C.Zumalacárregui, D.Miguélez)
(3) On 19-20.2 the female at La Furta, Asturies, was still there (C.A.Usategui) and on 25.2 it was seen again (A.G.Herrera, G.R.Lázaro)

Scaup Aythya marila.  On 9.2 there was a 1w drake at RN Santoña y Noja, seen during the official census for the area (A.García Herrera, J.Gómez-Navedo/SEO-BirdLife, J.Aja).Still there on 13.2 (Gorka Ocio).From next month on this species is withdrawn from this website
 

 
Lesser Scaup* Aythya affinis (1) 
(1)The 1w male at embalse de As Forcadas, A Coruña, found on 2.1 was still there on 1.2 (D.Calleja Marcos, G.Martínez, J.Usera).Still there on 18.2 (José Miguel Alonso Pumar) and 26.2 (Antonio Gutiérrez) that is beggining to show an almost adult plumage with only immature feathering in the rear flanks. 

Long-tailed Duck Clangula hyemalis. The bird at Santoña, Cantabria, found on 22.1 was seen again on 1.2 (Alejandro García-Herrera) and 7.2 (J.Aja, J.Marchamalo, A.Sanz) and 8.2 (D.López Velasco) to 13.2 (Sergio de Juan et al; G.Ocio). Slavonian Grebe Podiceps auritus.There were 5 birds at Santoña, Cantabria on 1.2 (Alejandro García-Herrera). On 2.2. (A.Villaverde) and 5.2 two birds remained at ria de la Villa, Villaviciosa, Asturies (R.Gutiérrez, C.A.Usátegui, A.Cama, X.Pinheiro, D.L.Velasco, M.A.Fernández et al) On 9.2 the birds of ria de la Villa were still there (Adolfo Villaverde, Joaquín Cimadevilla, Clemente Álvarez Usátegui). Last seen on 16.2 (A.Villaverde). On 8.2 a maximum of 22 birds were counted (Daniel López Velasco). On 8.2 a bird was seen at Plaiaundi, Bahia de Txingudi, Irun, Gipuzkoa (Miguel Angel López de Armentia). The official census for Santoña NR gave 19 birds on 9.2 (A.García Herrera, J.Gómez-Navedo/SEO-BirdLife, J.Aja).There were 2 at Raos harbour, Santander on 13.2 (Nacho Pontón).On 12.2 the Slavonian Grebe present in the Txingudi Bay, Gipuzkoa remained in the French side of the border (Xabier Remírez, Ricardo Rodríguez). Fulmar Fulmarus glacialis. A corpse was found at the beach of Brazomar river, Castro, Cantabria on 26.1 (Jesús Menéndez)On 27.1 one was found dead at Oriñón beach, Castro-Urdiales, Cantabria (Jesús Menéndez)On 17.2 a corpse was found beached at Dícido beach, Mioño, Cantabria (J.Menéndez). The same day another corpse was at Oriñón beach, Cantabria (J.Menéndez). On 18.2 another corpse was found at Sonabia, Cantabria (Fernan Sanchoyarto) and yet another at El Pocillo beach, Castro-Urdiales, Cantabria (J.Menéndez). On 14.2 a bird was found beached at Meixota, Tapia, Asturies (Xurde Gayol). It was photographed on 15.2 (Pablo Fernández). Presumed hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret* Egretta gularis x garzetta(1,2,3)
(1)On 1.2 there were two different birds at marjals de l'Albufera de València, València: one at Sueca area and the other at Valencia (J.I.Dies). At least one of them present in the area since last december. See a photo below (J.I.Dies) and have more information on the area and these birds at the Dies brothers' website
(2)on 13.2 there was one at Cadiz south bay. It was fairly similar to the bird (1) featured in this page according to the observer (Rafa Romero)
(3) There was another at the Canary Islands, at Aldea Blanca, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria on 18-19.2.See a photo below (Miguel Avelino)

Observations outside of regular site at PN Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona.Late news: there were 11 at northern marshes, Doñana, on 29.1 (Yann Kolbeinsson & Daníel Bergmann). On 3.2 there were 2 at Brazo del Este, Sevilla (Paco Chiclana).One was at La Revilla meadows, Oyambre-La Rabia, Cantabria, on 6.2 (Javier Portillo). At Villafáfila NR, Zamora, the Barillos bird was still there on 5.2 (Delfín González) and 10.2 (Alfonso Rodrigo).There were 2 at Escorón lagoon, Zaragoza, on 5.2  (Fran Alcalá, Sara Bujeda).There were 6 at Trebujena marshes, Cádiz on 20.2 (I.Thompson, G.Meisters, J.Day, M.O'Meara/GONHS).From next month on this species is withdrawn from this website

Yellow-billed Stork Mycteria ibis. On 5.2 a bird was photographed at Marjal de Pego-Oliva, València (F.José Llàcer). This bird is almost certainly the bird that escaped from Safari Park from Vergel back in 2000 and that had appeared before in this website. There were five at A Frouxeira lagoon, Valdoviño, A Coruña on 1.2 (D.Calleja Marcos, G.Martínez, J.Usera).On 2.2. there were 13 (A.Villaverde) and on 5.2 there were 11 at Sebrayu meadows,  ria de la Villa, Villaviciosa, Asturies (C.A.Usátegui, A.Cama, X.Pinheiro, D.L.Velasco, R.Gutiérrez, L.M.Arce, X.Cortés, M.A.Fernández et al) and 11 on 9.2 (A.Villaverde).There were seven at Valdoviño lagon, Galicia, at least until 2.2 (A.Gutiérrez, P.Gutiérrez). BALD IBIS * Geronticus eremita (1).Astonishing re-sighting of the unringed and perfect shaped adult inland in C Spain featured in December. Very possibly the same bird reported in December was seen various days by an English teacher near Trujillo, Extremadura: between Navidul and Huertas de Animas. This observer commented the news to a local birder who broadcasted the news to the net this week ('Jeremy' communicated to Jesús Porras). Sacred Ibis* Threskiornis aethiopicus(1).One was at Guadalhorce river mouth, Málaga on 6.2 (Todor Todorov). See two thumbnails here

 
 
White-tailed Eagle* Haliaaetus albicilla(1).One 2nd or 3rd year was seen flying over Somo, Cantabria on 24.2 towards Santa maria Island (Guillermo Rodríguez).

 
 
Long-legged Buzzard* Buteo rufinus(1,2,3).One 2nd calendar year was found at Racó de l'Olla, l'Albufera de València, on 18.2 afternoon. It was a pale form bird (J.I.Dies)
(2) One was seen near Lucio del Lobo, PN Doñana on 16-19.2 (John Butler). The same was seen again on 23.2 near José Antonio Valverde Information Center, Doñana (Kevin Wade).
(3) One 1w cf. cirtensis was seen on 23.2 near Laguna de la Janda, Cádiz (Francis Delgado, David Cuenca/GOES).

 
 
Spotted Eagle* Aquila clanga(1).One was at El Rocío, PN Doñana, Huelva, on 9.2 (John Butler). This bird was not the Lesser Spotted or hybrid featured in the area in previous months and also seen by the author as well

Purple Gallinule Porphyrio porphyrio. Only accidental extralimital records. The first for Asturies was seen on 7.2 (Feliz Florez) at Villadún, Castropol, Asturies. Crested Coot Fulica cristata. On 18.2 a bird collared '0R_' was seen at Marjal d'Almenara, Castelló (Joan Capella). On 25.2 a second bird was found at the same place: this bird was also collared 'OPU' (Enric Amer, David Olmos). Ring-billed Gull* Larus delawarensis (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9)
(1) One largely-twitched adult was still at Parque Isabel La Católica on 4-5.2. It was one of the seen in previous months and was approachable at close range. Seen by over 60 birders on 4-6.2 (C.A.Usategui,D.L.Velasco, J.Marchamalo,C.A.Lao, R.Gutiérrez, A.Sandoval, X.Varela, N.Vega, A.Cama, JM.Arcos, M.McMinn, A.Rodrigo, M.Rouco, A.Rodríguez et al) and still on 25.2 (A.G.Herrera, G.R.Lázaro)

(3)A 1st winter extremely worn bird was found at Ridaura river mouth, Platja d'Aro, Girona and then moved to Sant Antoni de Calonge, Girona on 1.1 (Carlos Álvarez Cros), then present in the area both months but it was not widely twitched until 30.1 (Pep Arcos) and then from 5.2, when  it was photographed at close range (Jordi Martí-Aledo 35 (1 punt); Oriol Clarabuch, Sergi Sales, F.Javier Macia;A.Ollé, X.Macia). Caspian Gull* Larus cachinnans(1) FIRST FOR SPAIN
(1) At Asturies, the first for Spain, a long-sought bird, a 1st winter Caspian Gull, was finally found at ría de Avilés from 22-27.2 (César Álvarez Laó (44) 6 puntos!; Daniel L.Velasco, P.J.Menéndez, C.A.Usategui, I.Pérez Tuya, M.Pajuelo, M.Quintana, M.Antonio). Horned Lark* Eremophila alpestris(1) SECOND FOR SPAIN. On 3.2 a bird was found within a flock of c.50 Skylarks at flooded meadows at Sebrayu, ria de la Villa, Asturies (Inés Vega, Gonzalo Gil, J.Antonio Castro). White-Crowned Black Wheatear * Oenanthe leucopyga (1) FIRST FOR THE CANARY ISLANDS AND SPAIN. On 11.1.2005 the photographer Ruben Smit visited La Palma island and near Fuencaliente saw the below wheatear believed to be something common.
