Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca  A drake was seen at bassa del Gall marí, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona on 1.9 (Jordi Martí-Aledo, Teresa Montràs) and on 2.9 (Alex Ollé).Still there on 8.9 (Ponç Feliu).There were 2 drakes at laguna del Portil, Marismas del Odiel, Huelva, on 25.9 (Manuel Villaécija, Alfonso Rodríguez).

Sooty Shearwater  Puffinus griseus. Gibraltar sighting. One bird was seen from Gibraltar on 8.9, flying W (Ernest FJ Garcia/ GONHS).There were c. 15 birds/h off El Abra de Bilbao, Euskadi on 13.9 (Gorka Ocio).On 10.10 one was seen from Gibraltar (Ernest FJ Garcia/ GONHS)

Balearic Shearwater  Puffinus mauretanicus. On 7.9 there seven were seen off Punta del Dichoso, Suances, Cantabria (Alejandro García Herrera) On 12.9, 5 were seen flying W off Cabo Oyambre, Cantabria (A.García Herrera).There were 300-500 S of Sálvora island, A Coruña, Galicia (Andrés Bermejo).There was a strong passage off Bilbao coast on 13.9 flying W (towards the expected direction if heading back to the Mediterranean, ed.comment). The passage suggests most of the population of the species (as expected) would be leaving now the Atlantic: 120 birds/hour at 1-2 n.m. offshore to the W off El Abra de Bilbao, Euskadi (Gorka Ocio). There were two rafts 0,5 n.m. off el Abra (87 birds) and another of 61 birds near playa de la Arena, Muskiz (G.Ocio). 16 were seen from Los Lances, Tarifa, Cádiz on 15.9 (Ian Kinley, Dave Thexton). One south past Atlanterra, Cádiz and one S past Tarifa, Cádiz on 21.9 (Ian Kinley, Dave Thexton). Ten south past Los Lances, Tarifa, Cádiz in 45 minutes on 23.9 (Ian Kinley, Dave Thexton). Seven were seen in a seawatch off Garraf and Llobregat delta, Barcelona on 23.9 (A.Ramal, R.Gutiérrez, F.X.Santaeufemia).
 

Presumed hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret* Egretta cf. gularis x garzetta (1,2)On 15.9 a bird was found at Azud de Riolobos, Salamanca (Miguel Rouco). This bird was similar to the (1) from Azud de Riolobos and the recently seen at Marjal del Moro (author comment). It was not seen the following day.

One was white-PVC ringed on the left leg (John Muddeman). Eleonora's Falcon Falco eleonorae. Two birds were seen at Sant Miquel, Girona on 5.9 (Aleix Comas, E.Fabregas,M.Sánchez-Frou,S.Wey, J.Álvarez,A.Ruiz,M.Angelats, S.Gimeno, M.Gago).On 5.9 there was a dark phase adult at Guadalhorce river mouth, Málaga (Andy Paterson & Mike Clarke). On 8.9 there was one at Filipines marsh, Llobregat Delta, Barcelona (Ferran López).There was one pale phase bird over Santes Creus lagoon, L'Ametlla de Mar, Tarragona on 24.9 (Ricard Gutiérrez)The same day another was seen at Tancada beach, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Pere Cortinas). Crested Coot Fulica cristata There was one at Brazo del Este, Sevilla, on 1.9 (Paco Chiclana).There were 2 at the same place on 21.9 (Daniel L Huertas).A bird, already observed in August 2004, was relocated with several common coots at Lagoa de Louro, Muros, W Galiza (Galicia) on 22-23.9 (C.Damiam Romai, B.Pazos, D.Collazo). One ringed bird but without PVC neck band, was seen on 20.8 at main canal, PN S'Albufera de Mallorca (Wolf Eisfeld)

Dotterel Charadrius morinellus. On 1.9 there was a large flock of 70 Dotterels at 'Las Tiesas', Albacete. Over 60% of the birds were still on breeding plumage (José Antonio Cañizares Mata). On 1.9 there were 12 (nine adults and 3 juveniles) at Las Amoladeras, Almería (Raimundo Martín Rodríguez).On 4-5.9 there were seven birds at Camporrobles, Valencia (Rafa Muñoz/SVO).At Almería on 5.9 there were 10 birds (E.Alba, J.Alba, F.Alcalà, Sara, S.Peregrina).See two photos below. On 2.9 there were 97 birds in a single flock at Albacete (J.A.Cañizares, J.M.Reolid).On 11.9 there were 2 at Velilla de la Sierra, Soria (J.Luis Hernández).On 10.9 there were 3 at Sierra de la Bovia (Elías García Sánchez, César A Laó).There is a number of sightings at Soria (J.L.Hernández) that makes this species commoner inland than thought: one bird on 1.9 at Taroda; a bird at Las Fraguas on 3.9; another at Sierra Llana de Villaciervos on 3.9; on 4.9 a bird at Buitrago and another at Fuentecantos; on 6.9 a flock of six at Fuentesauco plus another bird alone nearby; on 7.9 a bird at Zamajón and three on 10.9 at Noviercas. At Huesca there were 3 at Gurrea de Gállego on 9.9 (José Mª Canudo)There were 3 birds at Sils, Girona on 16.9 (Llorenç Pujol, Alfons DG). Red-necked Stint* Calidris ruficollis(1) First for Spain if accepted. An adult bird was reported (see below) on 20.9 at Caño Guadiamar, Aznalcázar, Sevilla,at 16:15 hours (John Butler, Brian and Janet Ryles). A description (see excerpt below) has been sent to the CR/SEO. The bird was first noticed standing still amongst a flock of Little Stints.The first thing that drew my attention to it was the buffy colour of the breast compared to all the other birds.First viewing through binoculars showed a Little Stint sized bird with a pink/red breast, short black bill, black legs and distint light eyebrow stripes above the eyes. Leaving the vehicle I was able to use my telescope without disturbing any of the birds.The telescope offered more detailed information and I was able to note dark speckling on the lower breast, merging into the buffy colour. Direct comparison with the Little Stints showed that the bill was thicker and straighter, the legs were slightly shorter and that the wing-tips extended more beyond the tail. It was also noticeable that the general plumage colour was greyer and that the head was darker and more speckled (John Butler)

Temminck's Stint Calidris temminckii. On 2.9 there was one at balsa de Arkaute, Salburúa wetlands, Alava (Josean Gainzarain).On 7.9 one was seen at Zeluán, Asturies (César Álvarez Laó). On 4.9 there were five at laguna del cerro de la cigüeña, Los Palacios y Villafranca, Sevilla (Rafa Romero).At Sollana ricefields, Valencia there was a juvenile between 3-10.9 (Bosco Dies).There were 3 juveniles at el Goleró, PN Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona, on 18.9 (Roser Solé and Josep Tantull)There were 2 juveniles on 18.9 at Valencia ricefields (Bosco Díes Jambrino).On 26.9 there were 7 at Brazo del Este, Sevilla (Paco Chiclana). On 20.9 there were five at the same place (Ian Kinley, Dave Thexton).And two on 21.9 (Daniel L Huertas).Also at Brazo del Este, there were 14 on 25.9 (Daniel L Huertas). On 25.9 there was one at Salinas de Cerrillos, Almería (Samuel Peregrina, Manuel Garrido)On 4.9 there was one at Alicante, near Embalse de la Pedrera (A.Jacobo Ramos). Baird's Sandpiper* Calidris bairdii(1,2) On 2.9 a bird was reported at Clot de Galvany, Elx (Malcolm J.Palmer).(2)On 12.9 one was together with a Buff-breasted Sandpiper at laguna de Xuño, Porto do Son, A Coruña (L.José Salaverri, Marcos Zarraga, Rafael y Tito Salvadores, César Vidal).On 17.9 it was still there (Gorka Ocio, Andrés Bermejo). Pectoral Sandpiper* Calidris melanotos(1, 2,3,4,5 ) The juvenile found on 30.8 at Bassa del Gall Marí, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona was relocated on 2.9 at the same place (Alex Ollé, Teresa Montràs, Jordi Martí-Aledo, Guy Delcroix).It was still there on 8.9 (Jordi Martí-Aledo). Purple Sandpiper Calidris maritima. There was one at Marismas del Odiel, Huelva, on 3.9 (Paco Chiclana).
 

Broad-billed Sandpiper* Limicola falcinellus(1,2) There was an adult moulting into winter plumage at the basis of the fangar bay, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona from 7-9.9 (David Bigas, S.Sales, C.Domingo).See two photos below and thumbnails here of this stunning-plumaged bird (David Bigas).Seen again on 11.9 (D.Bigas, JL Copete, F.López). Buff-breasted Sandpiper* Tryngites subruficollis(1, 2,3, 4,5,6)  (1) On 11.9 one juvenile was seen at Playa Arealoura of Nigrán, Pontevedra (Carlos Lucirte, Jaime Sainz, J.Luis Moreno; César Vidal, Rafael y Tito Salvadores). The bird was seen still there on 15.9 (Adolfo Lomeña, César Vidal) (2)On 12.9 one was together with a Baird's Sandpiper at laguna de Xuño, Porto do Son, A Coruña (L.José Salaverri, Marcos Zarraga, Rafael y Tito Salvadores, César Vidal). Besides, there were slight plumage differences between birds (1) and (4). Marsh Sandpiper Tringa stagnatilis. There was one at ca l'Arana, Llobregat delta, Barcelona on 9.9 (Ferran López)There was one at Barbate, Cádiz, on 8.9 (M.Palmer, J.Sykes). At La Janda, Cádiz, there were 5 juveniles on 11.9 (Mike Clarke, Andy Paterson).On 15.9 there was one at Filipines marsh, Llobregat delta, Barcelona (F.López, J.Castelló).
 

Lesser Yellowlegs* Tringa flavipes(1,2) There is a long-stayer (over a year now) at Ensenada da Insua, Ponteceso, A Coruña (José Luis Rabuñal Patiño). This bird was seen in recent times on 19.9 (JL Rabuñal; D.L.Velasco) and 25.9 (M.A.Fernández, J.Valella, P.J.Menéndez, P.Fernández, G.Rodríguez, D.L.Velasco) when a thumbnail was taken(2) One juvenile was found at Lagoa de Louro, Muros, W Galiza (Galicia) on 22-23.9 (Cosme Damiam Romai Cousido, Beatriz Pazos Gámez, Diego Collazo Pintos)

Red-necked Phalarope Phalaropus lobatus. One juvenile-1st winter was seen at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona on 5.9  (David Bigas, J.L.Copete, C.Domingo). Long-tailed Skua * Stercorarius longicaudus (1,2,3,4) One was seen off cabo Silleiro, Baiona, Pontevedra on 11.9 within a strong S.parasiticus passage (Adolfo Lomeña, Víctor López).(2) On 4.9 one adult was reported from Punta de la Vaca, Asturies flying W (Carmelo de Dios, Nacho Vidal, Gorka Ocio).(3)A 3rd calendar-year bird was found on 11.9 in bad condition at La Garrofera beach, El Saler, l'Albufera de València. It was kept into care at the wildlife recovery center 'Granja de El Saler' where it was still alive on 16.9. The bird was studied by Natalia Ramón, J.I.Dies and M.Angel Monsalve plus Clemente Álvarez Usátegui as unexpected guest. Also studied by Bosco Díes, Mercè Vilalta and Anna Valentín-(4) On 11.9 one adult was seen from 'El Rillón' vessel, 7 miles off Navia, Asturies (J.A.García Fernández, Arturo Ruano, S.Solano et al).

Sabine's Gull Larus sabini. On 6.9 ten birds were seen 13 nautical miles off Cabo Peñas, Asturies (Pedro J Menéndez, Elías García Sánchez, César A Laó, Santiago Casado, Arturo Ruano). 

Caspian Tern Sterna caspia. Data of this species not included anymore in the page but this is an exception due to its rarity inland. An adult summer plumaged bird was found at Embalse del Vellón or Pedrezuela, Madrid on 20.9 (Gabriel Martín, Carlos Andrés; Alfredo H Ortega Morejón). There is only another recent record for Madrid back in 1995.

Lesser Crested Tern Sterna bengalensis. There was one at Parc Natural de les Salines de Santa Pola, Alacant on 9.9 (Antonio Jacobo Ramos)One was seen from Zahara de los Atunes lighthouse, Cádiz on 7.9 (M.Palmer, B.Vickers, D.Grant).On 18.9 one euring 3 was seen at Playa de los Lances, Tarifa, Cádiz (Keith Bensusan/GONHS). It was also seen and photographed at late evening by Miguel Rouco. See two thumbnails here.The bird had been seen already on 15.9 (one adult) (Dave Thexton).

White-winged Black Tern Chlidonias leucopterus On 5.9 there was a juvenile at Salobrar de Campos, Mallorca, Balearic Islands (Lalo Ventoso). White-rumped Swift Apus caffer On 20.9 there were 5 at Arroyo de Alpariate, Cádiz (John Butler, Jorma Tenuovo).There was a bird at PN Sierra de Andújar, Jaén, on 15.9 (Clemente Álvarez Usátegui).On 11.9 there were 2 under the bridges of the road from Torrejón El Rubio to Arroyo la Vid, Extremadura (Ian Wright). At Monfragüe, there were four birds around Peña Falcón, where a nest was seen on 28.9 (John Muddeman, Ray Nowicki)
 

Aquatic Warbler Acrocephalus paludicola. On 5.9 there was one at estuario del Miño, A Guarda, Pontevedra (Rafael Salvadores y César Vidal). The two first ones in the same are were seen on 21.8 (C.Vidal).On 5.9 there was one at Ria de la Villa, Villaviciosa, Asturies (C.Álvarez-Usátegui, Gilberto S Jardón, Daniel López Velasco).

Icterine Warbler Hippolais icterina. One was seen on 7.9 at Peroño, Luanco, Gozón, Asturies (Elias García Sánchez). This is only the 2nd or 3rd Asturies record ever.On 10.9 there was one at Fangar dunes, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Sergi Sales).
 

Booted Warbler * Hippolais caligata (1) First for Spain due to be accepted.  On 8.9 one was seen at extremely close range at Cau de Llastres, Colunga, Asturies (Elías García Sánchez). It was well told from Syke's Warbler, Hippolais rama. There is a previous claim of a bird seen in the Mediterranean but this record was never submitted to CR/SEO.

Greenish Warbler * Phylloscopus trochiloides (1) First for Catalonia, 2nd for Mediterranean Spain.  On 27.9 one was trapped and ringed at Remolar-Filipines reserve, Llobregat delta, Barcelona (Joan Castelló, Ferran López; Rafael Armada; Ricard Gutiérrez; Armand Ramal, Xavier Sampere, Néstor Urios). Lapland Bunting* Calcarius lapponicus(1,2) A bird was seen from 28 (P.Gutiérrez) to 29.9 at least (LJ Salaverri, P.Pita, A.Gutiérrez, I.Allegue, P.Gutiérrez) at Vilarrube sand dunes, Cedeira, A Coruña.
