on 4.3 (Pablo Fernández). There were 3 at Laguna de la Zaida, Gallocanta
on 26.2 (David Walker, Gill Hollamby, Wesley Attridge, Barry Chambers,
Chris Philpott, Pam Stafford).On 30.3 there was one at desembocadura del
río Millars SPA, Castellón, the 1st for Valencia region (Miguel
Moya y Gregorio Ros)
Brent
Goose Branta bernicla On 5.3 one was seen resting at Santoña,
Cantabria while presumably in its journey to its breeding grounds (Álvaro
Bustamante, JG Navedo, J.Aja).On 13.3 another or the same at the same place
(Juan Gómez Navedo).

There were 3 birds at Brazo del Este, Sevilla. They were unringed and unmarked
(J.Carlos Atienza, G.P.Farinós, J.Enrique Jiménez, E.Pérez

Ruddy
Shelduck Tadorna ferruginea. One was seen on 5.3 at Caño
Guadiamar, Hinojos, Huelva on 5.3 (John Butler). It is probably the same
bird seen last year according the author.On 6.3 there was one at Fresnedilla,
Oliva de Plasencia, Cáceres (Charo Casado, Mario Arcas). See
a thumbnail hereThere was a bird at Monroy, Cáceres on 12.3
(Petri Hottola). On 31.2 there was a pair with 10 recently fledged
chicks at Rosa de Catalina García, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
while at embalse de Los Molinos there was a lone male and a pair with 10
juveniles (Juan Antonio Lorenzo y Miguel Ángel Hernández).

Duck* Aix galericulata (1 ,2,3)
The
male and female found at embalse de Pilotuertu, Tineo, Asturies on 20.2
were photographed on 6.3 (Daniel López Velasco). Both were unringed.

There were 2 birds on 2.3 off ca l'Arana beach, El Prat de Llobregat, Llobregat
delta, Barcelona (X.Larruy; F.López, A.Crory). Seen again one on
3.3 (X.Larruy) and 5.3 (R.Gutiérrez, F.X.Santaeufemia, D.Burgas)
when photographed (see a thumbnail here and a photo below,
© Ricard Gutiérrez). still there on 13.3 (D.Burgas) and 18.3
(X.Larruy). Last seen on 19.3 (D.Burgas)(2) On 5.3 the wildfowl census
of Santoña gave a stunning total of 21 birds (J.G.Navedo, J.Aja).(3)
On 11.3 (Jorge Valella) and 14.3 there was one bird at La Granda reservoir,
Asturies (Daniel López Velasco).This bird was still at La Granda

glacialis One was seen on 2.3 10 miles off Santander following a fishing
vessel (Gorka Ocio).On 11.3 there was another seen 12 miles off El Abra,
Santurtzi, Euskadi (Gorka Ocio)
Balearic
Shearwater Puffinus mauretanicus.On 4.3 there were 2 at 1,3
and 4 miles off Santoña being very late records for the Oriental
Cantabrican sea (Gorka Ocio).There was another late record (the very latest
record in the area) 15 miles off Santander, Cantabria on 12.3 (Gorka Ocio).
There were 150-200 birds off Ricarda lagoon, Llobregat delta on 6.3 (Xavier
Larruy).On 20.3 there were c.350 off Llobregat delta (X.Larruy) but on
22.3 there were c.1500 at the same place (X.Larruy; F.López) but
only tens on 26.3 (R.Gutiérrez, A.Ramal).

The same day at Vilanova de la Barca, Lleida, there were 3, one of them
in breeding plumage (Joan Estrada).At Laguna de Pitillas, Navarra, there
was one on 19, 21 and 22.3 (Alberto Martínez/Ostadar).There was

Great
Grey Shrike Lanius excubitor. A bird was seen at Dehesa de Abajo,
la Puebla del Rio, Sevilla, on 17.3. L.meridionalis was discarded
(John Butler)

Crow Corvus splendens On 6.3 a bird was seen at Parada, Fisterra,
A Coruña, Galicia (Petri Hottola).
Pied
Crow Corvus albus On 27.3 a bird was seen at Gran Canaria, Canary
Islands (Tommy Holmgren). CR/SEO Canaries
representative note. On 31.12.2002 there was another Pied Crow at Gran
Canaria, near punta de La Aldea, San Nicolás (Lars Olausson). This
record is being assessed by the CR/SEO as well as another bird found when
landing in a fishing vessel at sea between the Canaries and Sahara coast.
Either escape or assisted arrival cannot be discarded in this new record
but submitting the record would be desirable (J.A.Lorenzo).
Snow
Bunting Plectrophenax nivalis. On 13.3 there were 3 at Villamil,
Tapia de Casariego, Asturies (Gilberto S Jardón). See a photo below
(© Gilberto S Jardón). These birds have apparently overwintered
in the are as seen before at least on 3.1, 10.1, 28.2 and 7.3 (G S Jardon)
and possibly also on 2-3.12.2003 (Pablo Fernández)
