Pink-footed Goose* Anser brachyrhynchus. One record (1w0071 (1)One of the 3 birds seen at La Nava, Palencia on 20.2 and during the winter was still there on 4.3 (Enrigue Gómez Crespo)

White-fronted Goose Anser albifrons. On 1.3 there was an adult within a party of Greylag Geese at ria de la Villa, Villaviciosa, Asturies (Adolfo Villaverde Garrido).The bird seen at La Linera, Ria del Eo, Asturies/Lugo was relocated on 4.3 (Pablo Fernández). There were 3 at Laguna de la Zaida, Gallocanta on 26.2 (David Walker, Gill Hollamby, Wesley Attridge, Barry Chambers, Chris Philpott, Pam Stafford).On 30.3 there was one at desembocadura del río Millars SPA, Castellón, the 1st for Valencia region (Miguel Moya y Gregorio Ros)
 
 

Brent Goose Branta bernicla On 5.3 one was seen resting at Santoña, Cantabria while presumably in its journey to its breeding grounds (Álvaro Bustamante, JG Navedo, J.Aja).On 13.3 another or the same at the same place (Juan Gómez Navedo).
 
 
 


Egyptian Goose* Alopochen aegyptiaca (1,2w0087) There were 3 birds at Brazo del Este, Sevilla. They were unringed and unmarked (J.Carlos Atienza, G.P.Farinós, J.Enrique Jiménez, E.Pérez Toledano)(2) On 14.3 there was one at Laguna de Tarelo, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz (Daniel L Huertas). Ruddy Shelduck Tadorna ferruginea. One was seen on 5.3 at Caño Guadiamar, Hinojos, Huelva on 5.3 (John Butler). It is probably the same bird seen last year according the author.On 6.3 there was one at Fresnedilla, Oliva de Plasencia, Cáceres (Charo Casado, Mario Arcas). On  31.2 there was a pair with 10 recently fledged chicks at Rosa de Catalina García, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands while at embalse de Los Molinos there was a lone male and a pair with 10 juveniles (Juan Antonio Lorenzo y Miguel Ángel Hernández). 
 
 
 


Mandarin Duck* Aix galericulata (1w0085,2,3) The male and female found at embalse de Pilotuertu, Tineo, Asturies on 20.2 were photographed on 6.3 (Daniel López Velasco). Both were unringed. American Wigeon* Anas americana (1) On 4.3 the drake seen previously at Ria de Eo, Asturies/Lugo was seen again near Muro de Lamas (Pablo Fernández García)

 

Falcated Teal* Anas falcata (1w0075) 3rd for SPAIN. The drake seen at Llobregat delta on 17.1 was relocated on 5.3 (Daniel Burgas)It was seen again at calaixos de depuració de cal Tet, Llobregat delta on 30.3 with a party of c.27 gadwalls (A.strepera), c. 2 km from former site (X.Larruy)

 

Ring-biled Duck* Aythya collaris (1sense numero1) There was a drake in full breeding plumage at La Furta, Tamón, Asturies on 28.3 (Clemente Álvarez Usátegui). See a thumbnail here

Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca. On 1.3 there was one male at embalse del Vicario, Ciudad Real (Alfonso López López).On 11.3 (Jorge Valella), a male and 13-14.3, two birds, were at La Granda reservoir, Asturies (Daniel López Velasco)See a thumbnail here.There was a male at Marjal del Moro, Sagunt, València on 21-22.3 (M.Yuste)On 29.3 there was one drake at laguna de Sariñena, Huesca (Vicente Castillo)

Eider Somateria mollissima. The bird seen at was one at Ría del Eo, Asturies/Galicia on 1.2 was seen again on 4.3 (P.Fernández)

Slavonian Grebe* Podiceps auritus(1 crw0084,2,3,4) There were 2 birds on 2.3 off ca l'Arana beach, El Prat de Llobregat, Llobregat delta, Barcelona (X.Larruy; F.López, A.Crory). Seen again one on 3.3 (X.Larruy) and 5.3 (R.Gutiérrez, F.X.Santaeufemia, D.Burgas) when photographed (see a thumbnail here and a photo below, © Ricard Gutiérrez). still there on 13.3 (D.Burgas) and 18.3 (X.Larruy). Last seen on 19.3 (D.Burgas)(2) On 5.3 the wildfowl census of Santoña gave a stunning total of 21 birds (J.G.Navedo, J.Aja).(3) On 11.3 (Jorge Valella) and 14.3 there was one bird at La Granda reservoir, Asturies (Daniel López Velasco).This bird was still at La Granda on 19.3 showing already signs of moult (Elias García Sánchez, Pedro J Menéndez, JA García Fernández, C.Álvarez Usátegui).(4) there was one at San Andrés reservoir, Xixón, Asturies on 17.3 (Isolino Pérez Tuya, Mª José Fernández)

Red-necked Grebe Podiceps grisegena. There was one at badia de Roses, off PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà on 17.3 (T.Montràs, S.Sales i J.Martí-Aledo) to 18.3 (S.Sales, J.Martí-Aledo, O.Clarabuch).

Fulmar Fulmarus glacialis One was seen on 2.3 10 miles off Santander following a fishing vessel (Gorka Ocio).On 11.3 there was another seen 12 miles off El Abra, Santurtzi, Euskadi (Gorka Ocio)

Balearic Shearwater Puffinus mauretanicus.On 4.3 there were 2 at 1,3 and 4 miles off Santoña being very late records for the Oriental Cantabrican sea (Gorka Ocio).There was another late record (the very latest record in the area) 15 miles off Santander, Cantabria on 12.3 (Gorka Ocio). There were 150-200 birds off Ricarda lagoon, Llobregat delta on 6.3 (Xavier Larruy).On 20.3 there were c.350 off Llobregat delta (X.Larruy) but on 22.3 there were c.1500 at the same place (X.Larruy; F.López) but only tens on 26.3 (R.Gutiérrez, A.Ramal).
 
 


Brown Booby* Sula leucogaster (1) One adult was seen flying S on 1.3 offshore at playa la Garrucha, Almería (Gabriel Martín García)

 

White Pelican* Pelecanus onocrotalus(1) Two were seen flying N on 15.3 off El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz (Rafael Garcia Costales).

Great White Egret Egretta alba.There was one at Marjal de Pego, València on 5.3 (Jules Sykes). The bird present in Osona county, Catalonia, during the winter was last seen on 27.2 (Joan Culí).At Villafáfila, Zamora there was still one on 7.3 (Víctor Salvador).There were 4 at PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà on 18.3 (J.Martí-Aledo, T.Montràs, O.Clarabuch, S.Sales).There was one at Utxesa, Lleida on 20.3 (J.Estrada). The same day at Vilanova de la Barca, Lleida, there were 3, one of them in breeding plumage (Joan Estrada).At Laguna de Pitillas, Navarra, there was one on 19, 21 and 22.3 (Alberto Martínez/Ostadar).There was one at Villafáfila, Zamora on 27.3 ( Javier, Pedro , Goyo, Angel y Jesus Ruiz).

Glossy Ibis Plegadis falcinellus. On 1.3 a flock of 16 was seen flying N along ca l'Arana beach, Delta del Llobregat, Barcelona (X.Larruy).On 10.3 there were 18 at Brazo del Este, Sevilla (Paco Chiclana)There were 28 at Brazo del Este, La Puebla del Río, Sevilla on 16.3 (Daniel L Huertas).Only six were at Brazo del Este, Sevilla on 21.3 (R.Romero).There was one at Buda Island, Ebre delta on 25.3 (I.Torres, R.Gutiérrez).There were 20 at PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà on 21.3 (X.Larruy).And 25 (six ringed at Ebre delta, Tarragona) at the same place on 31.3 (J.Martí Aledo).

Pallid Harrier* Circus macrourus(1,2,3) One was seen at estany de Palau, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà on 18.3 (J.Martí-Aledo, T.Montràs, O.Clarabuch, S.Sales)  (2) On 31.3 there was a male at Tres Ponts area, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (Oriol Clarabuch i Suni García) (3) On 28.3 a male was seen on passage over Barbate, Cádiz at c.12:00. It came from the S and left towards the NW -Caños de Meca- following the coast (Stephen Daly)

 

Long-legged Buzzard* Buteo rufinus(1) One was reported without further details or description as seen on 3.3 at Casas de Lázaro-Peñascosa, Albacete (Rafael Torralba)

 

White-tailed Eagle * Haliaaetus albicilla(1snail mail) THIRD FOR SPAIN. The inmmature found at Santoña marshes, Cantabria on 7.12 was seen again on 3.3 at Colindres harbour pier, Santoña, Cantabria (Gorka Ocio), on 4.3 (E.Franco) and on 5.3 near Montehano (Karmelo de Dios).On 6.3 it was seen again (Gurutz Larrañaga).

 

Lanner* Falco biarmicus(1) There was one at Gibraltar flying N on 8.3 (Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society).

Baillon's Crake Porzana pusilla. There was one at rio Vélez river mouth, Málaga on 14.3 (Francisco Botella).

Crested Coot Fulica cristata. There were two of the reintroduction scheme at S'Albufera de Mallorca on 5.3 (Biel Perelló)On 7.3 there was at least one at S'Albufera (Lalo Ventoso). In this area 20 were released and about 9-10 are currently under control by the Park staff (Maties Rebassa). See a thumbnail here. From 2-7.3 there were 1 to 7 birds at Lucio del Lobo, Aznalcazar, Sevilla (John Butler).On 21.3 there was one at Laguna Amarga, Córdoba, marked with a collar  09J coming from Cañada de los Pájaros, Sevilla (Samuel Peregrina).On 5.3 there had been one at Marjal del Moro, València with collar 05J (Antonio PB).There were 5 at Lucio del Lobo, Aznalcázar, Sevilla on 21.3 (Daniel L Huertas, Guadalupe Moreno).On 21.3 there was one with collar 'XP' at l'Encanyissada lagoon, Ebre delta, tarragona (Josep Mª Forcadell, Sílvia Tejero, Jordi Palau). On 30.3 there were 2 ringed (4 H y 59) at Loma del Acebuchal, Sevilla (Rafa Romero)

Dotterel Charadrius morinellus. There was one at Villafáfila, Zamora on 27.3 ( Javier, Pedro , Goyo, Angel y Jesus Ruiz). See a thumbnail here

Marsh Sandpiper Tringa stagnatilis. At la Janda, Cádiz, a bird was seen from 10-16.3 (J.Ramirez, M.Guerrero, C.de Linares, Javier de la Cruz).On 27-28.3 there was one at maresma de les Filipines, Llobregat Delta, Barcelona (X.Sampere, Nestor Urios, M.Casas, S.Hernandez). On 30.3 it was still there (A.Crory. F.X.Santaeufemia, F.Lopez).
 
 
 


Lesser Yellowlegs* Tringa flavipes(1w0088) The bird found on 28.2 at Clot de la Unilla, Lleida, see a photo in the february page, was still there on 3.3 (Rafel Rocaspana).and 6.3 (A.Ollé, M.Llobet, T.Mampel).It was still there on 14.3 (Enric Farré) and 15.3 (Gerard Bota) and 20.3 (E.Farré, T.Nievas, A.Sebé).Last seen on 28.3 (F.López, E.Lagunas). Temminck's Stint Calidris temminckii On 7.3 there were 4 at Entremuros, Isla Mayor, Sevilla (John Butler).There was one at Salobrar de Campos, Mallorca on 8.3 (Eduardo Amengual). There were 3 on 29.2 at Canal Vell, Tarragona (David Bigas).On 24.3 there were 16 birds at corredor verded del Guadiamar, Sevilla (P.Chiclana, D.Huertas).

Terek Sandpiper* Xenus cinereus(1w0079) The overwintering bird at the Ebre Delta was seen again on 29.2 and 1.3 at Masia Blanca ricefields, near Canal Vell, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (David Bigas)

 

Bonaparte's Gull* Larus philadelphia(1w0081,2crw0091) The bird was seen at Bueu, Pontevedra on 29-30.1 was still there on 2.3 (Pablo Gutiérrez) (2) There was another bird found on 29.2 at playa de Armona, estuario do Miño, A Guarda, Pontevedra (R.Salvadores, T.Salvadores, Mariño). Common Gull Larus canus. Only inland records. On 7.3 a summer plumaged adult was seen at Pantano de Santillana, Manzanares del Real, Madrid (Delfín González)
 
 
 


Iceland  Gull* Larus glaucoides A bird was seen on 3.3 at el Musel area, dique de la Osa, Xixón, Asturies (Ignacio Menéndez Vega). It seemed an adult.  On 30.3 there were 2 2nd winter birds at the same place (C.Alvarez Usátegui; Nacho Vega, Delfín González).On 31.3 there was still one around (Nacho Vega).

 

Glaucous Gull* Larus hyperboreus(1) One was reported 8 miles off Santander bay on 1.3 (Gorka Ocio) 

 

Roseate Tern* Sterna dougallii(1snail mail) One was seen on 16.3 at Marismas del Odiel, Huelva (John Butler)

 
 
Little Swift* Apus affinis (1) On 20.3 a bird was seen at Bolonia, Cádiz, together with a White-rumped Swift (A. caffer) (A.Paterson, I.Torres, S.Penn)

Desert Wheatear* Oenanthe deserti(1crw0092) The bird seen at Estuario do Anllóns, Ponteceso, A Coruña from 8-23.2 was seen and photographed on 2.3 (Antonio & Pablo Gutiérrez) and trapped on 4.3 where it wqas confirmed as an Euring 5 (F.X.Rodriguez, X.Manuel Carregal, G.Fernández). Marmora's Warbler* Sylvia sarda(1,2w0093)2ND AND 3RD FOR SPAIN (1)On 13.3 a bird was seen at close range at cal Tet lagoon, El Prat de Llobregat Barcelona (Xavier Larruy).(2) On 17.3 a bird was seen coming from the sea and landing in coastal saltmarsh scrub less than a km from the former site (X.Larruy) Seen again on 18.3 (D.Burgas). On 19.3 the bird was relocated (F.López, R.Armada).Note: not to be confused with Balearic Warbler Sylvia balearica whose option was carefully discarded. See some photos below and thumbnails here  (Rafael Armada). Still there on 24.3 (F.X.Santaeufemia) and 25.3 (X.Larruy).

Great Grey Shrike Lanius excubitor. A bird was seen at Dehesa de Abajo, la Puebla del Rio, Sevilla, on 17.3. L.meridionalis was discarded (John Butler)

House Crow Corvus splendens On 6.3 a bird was seen at Parada, Fisterra, A Coruña, Galicia (Petri Hottola).

Pied Crow Corvus albus On 27.3 a bird was seen at Gran Canaria, Canary Islands (Tommy Holmgren). CR/SEO Canaries representative note. On 31.12.2002 there was another Pied Crow at Gran Canaria, near punta de La Aldea, San Nicolás (Lars Olausson). This record is being assessed by the CR/SEO as well as another bird found when landing in a fishing vessel at sea between the Canaries and Sahara coast. Either escape or assisted arrival cannot be discarded in this new record but submitting the record would be desirable (J.A.Lorenzo).

Snow Bunting Plectrophenax nivalis. On 13.3 there were 3 at Villamil, Tapia de Casariego, Asturies (Gilberto S Jardón). See a photo below (© Gilberto S Jardón). These birds have apparently overwintered in the are as seen before at least on 3.1, 10.1, 28.2 and 7.3 (G S Jardon) and possibly also on 2-3.12.2003 (Pablo Fernández)
