Mute Swan Cygnus olor . There were 3 at Marismas Blancas, Astillero, Cantabria on 2.2 (JM Pérez de Ana).The total count of Mute Swans for the Santander bay would be of six birds counted on 1.2 at ensenada de San Bartolomé, Santander (Fernando Arce).
 

Bewicks Swan* Cygnus columbianus (1) The 2 adults at fields near Castell del Remei, Lleida found on 26.1 were still there on 1.2 (Arnau Sebé)The birds are moving along the Linyola area and on 6.2 they were at La Panosa area, within Linyola town council (Arnau Sebé). Comment: I failed to locate them on 4.2 but the area is surprisingly similar to that typical for the birds in C Europe, e.g. the Netherlands and the presence of a Mute Swan captive pair nearby could have attracted these definitely wild birds.Still thre on 8.2 (E.Farré).On 14.2 they were relocated again at La Panosa area, Linyola, Lleida (Arnau Sebé)Still visible at the same area on 19.2 (Rafa Armada). Pink-footed Goose* Anser brachyrhynchus. One record (1 (1)There were 3 birds at La Nava, Palencia on 20.2 (Enrique Gómez Crespo) and one on 22.2, probably the same seen since december 2003 (Alejandro García Herrera, Fernando Arce, Uca, Guillermo Rodríguez; Miguel Rouco)

Bean Goose Anser fabalis. The Aiguamolls de l'Empordà bird, featured the last months was still there on 10.2 (P.Feliu, I.Batet, J.Sanz, E.Capalleras, T.Montràs, J. Martí-Aledo).

White-fronted Goose Anser albifrons There was one 1w at Ría del Eo, Asturies/Galicia on 1.2 (M Antonio Fernández, J.Valella, P.Fernández, D López Velasco). There was one at Sariñena, Huesca on 1.2 (Pablo Pascual).There as one at Santoña, Cantabria, on 5.2 (JG Navedo, J.Aja, J.A.Gómez, M.López). There were 2 at Laguna del Oso, Ávilaon 6.2 (Rafael Sánchez, Juan Ramón Cuervo).There were 4 birds at Villafáfila on 10.2 (JB Hormaechea, Gorka Ocio). See a photo below ( © JB Hormaechea). c.f. Hybrid Bar-headed x Canada Goose Anser indicus x B.canadensis. On 7.2 there was a bird assumed to be an hybrid between these two species at Villafáfila, Zamora (Beatriz Iglesias, LM Alonso, Clemente Álvarez).

Barnacle Goose Branta leucopsis. The bird at Sariñena, Huesca found this winter was still there on 1.2 (Javier Capalvo). Brent Goose Branta bernicla On 16.2 there were 6 at ria de Villaviciosa, Asturies (Adolfo Villaverde Garrido)

Ruddy Shelduck Tadorna ferruginea. There were 2 at isla mayor ricefields. Sevilla on 30.1 (John Butler). One was at marisma de Hinojos, Huelva on 1.2 (John Butler).The six birds at PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà were still there on 10.2 (P.Feliu, I.Batet, J.Sanz, E.Capalleras, T.Montràs, J. Martí-Aledo).There were 6 at PN S'Albufera de Mallorca, Mallorca on 8.2 (Maties Rebassa)Ther was one at Boada, Palencia on 22.2 (Alejandro García Herrera, Fernando Arce, Uca, Guillermo Rodríguez)
 
 

Falcated Teal* Anas falcata (1,2) 2nd-3rd for SPAIN. The male was seen at l'Encanyissada area, delta de l'Ebre where one seen from 6-16.1 on 1.2 (P.Feliu, J.Sargatal, H.Mas, C.Ginés et al).There are two males. The Llobregat delta bird, seen in 17.1 has not left the area since then and was still at La Ricarda lagoon where initially found, on 10.2 (Xavier Sampere/RN Delta del Llobregat). In the meantime, the Encanyissada bird was seen there on 8.2 (D.Bigas, K.de Dios, J.Cañada, G.Ocio, I.Torres).

Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca. Late news: There were 5 at embalse del Rosarito, Toledo-Ávila on 28.1 (Dave Langlois)There were 2 at PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà on 10.2, the same pair seen since november 2003 (P.Feliu, I.Batet, J.Sanz, E.Capalleras, T.Montràs, J. Martí-Aledo).There were 3 at Laguna del Portil, Huelva on 8.2 (John Butler).On 8.2 there were 2 at a gravel pit at Rivas-Vaciamadrid (Howard Youth, Piluca and Marian Alvarez Fidalgo). Scaup Aythya marila. There was one male at Ría del Eo, Asturies/Galicia on 1.2 (M Antonio Fernández, J.Valella, P.Fernández, D López Velasco)On 2.2 there was a female at Lagoa de Vixán, PN Corrubedo e Lagoas de Carregal e Vixán, Ribeira, A Coruña (A.Sandoval).

Eider Somateria mollissima. There was one at Ría del Eo, Asturies/Galicia on 1.2 (M Antonio Fernández, J.Valella, P.Fernández, D López Velasco)On 20.2 the Santoña wildfowl count gave one bird (JG Navedo, A.Bustamante, J.Aja, J.A. Gómez).One was seen near the coast 1 km S of Vilanova i la Geltrú, Barcelona on 26.2 (Jordi Vázquez de Luca).

Slavonian Grebe* Podiceps auritus(1,2 ,3) There were 18 birds in the RN Santoña y Noja widlfowl count of 5.2 (JG Navedo, J.Aja, J.A.Gómez, M.López). This is the largest-ever number recorded in a single flock in Spain.On 20.2 the Santoña wildfowl count gave 18 birds (JG Navedo, A.Bustamante, J.Aja, J.A. Gómez).(2) There were 3 at Ria de Ortigueira, A Coruña on 8.2 (Pablo y Antonio Gutiérrez). (3) On 8.2. there was one at A Lanzada bay, Sanxenxo- Ogrobe, Pontevedra (Xurxo Piñeiro).Still there on 19.2 (X.Pinheiro).

Red-necked Grebe Podiceps grisegena. There was one at Santoña, Cantabria, on 5.2 (JG Navedo, J.Aja, J.A.Gómez, M.López).On 20.2 the Santoña wildfowl count gave two birds (JG Navedo, A.Bustamante, J.Aja, J.A. Gómez).

Balearic Shearwater Puffinus mauretanicus.On 10-18.1 a total of 968 were counted off Castelló province coasts, quite a large number (Ecologistes en Acció, RN Illes Columbrets).

So if the figures are accurated,  there could be at least c.8390 alive Balearic Shearwaters since the 3250 and 5000 count seem to be simultaneous.

Mediterranean Shearwater Puffinus yelkouan. Well documented Atlantic sighting. On 1.2 from Estaca de Bares, A Coruña, a bird was seen flying side by side of a Balearic Shearwater P.mauretanicus (Antonio Sandoval). The structural features were correctly noted, white colour distribution and jizz compared to the also present those days Manx Shearwaters There were 35-40 off Cap de Creus, Girona on 17.2 (Ponç Feliu) 

Great White Egret Egretta alba.There were 4 at Caño Guadiamar, Sevilla on 1.2 (John Butler). There was one at Salobrar de Campos, Mallorca on 2.2 (G.Carrasco, N.Segre, R.Mas, L.Parpal)There were 4 at Caño de Guadiamar,Hinojos,  Sevilla on 7.2 (Daniel L Huertas)There were 3 at PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà on 10.2 (P.Feliu, I.Batet, J.Sanz, E.Capalleras, T.Montràs, J. Martí-Aledo).There was one at Villafáfila, Zamora on 7.2 (Beatriz Iglesias, LM Alonso, Clemente Álvarez).There was one neat Térmens, Lleida on 22.2 (Joan Estrada).On 20.2 there was one at Basses d'en Coll, Pals, Girona (Carles Barriocanal). One was at S'Albufereta de Pollença, Mallorca on 16.2 (Joan Gelabert, Maties Rebassa, Jordi Muntaner).There was one at Utxesa, Lleida on 28.2 (J.Bonfil, A.Varea, G.Bota).The bird that has spent all the winter at Villafáfila, Zamora, was still there on 22.2 (Alfredo Hernández Rodríguez).On 23.2 there were 2 at Basses d'en Coll and another at Golf Serres de Pals, Pals Girona (Carles Barriocanal).The bird at Villafáfila, Zamora, was still there on 29.2 (A.Hernández Rodríguez, I.Martín).

Egretta alba modesta. 2nd for Spain. There was one on 6.2 (V.Risco) to 15.2 first at Embalse de Arrocampo, then at balsa de Cerro Alto, near Saucedilla-Almaraz, Cáceres amongst a group of 11 alba (Juan Antonio García Giménez, Ana Castaño).Later relocated on 18.2 in the N of Cáceres together with 15 E.alba alba (V.Risco, Javier Briz). See the new identification page on this sighting with photos and a full description (in Spanish) here

Glossy Ibis Plegadis falcinellus. There were 70-80 at Jose Antonio Valverde center, PN Doñana, Sevilla on 1.2 (John Butler).There were 2 at Miguel Esteban, Toledo on 7.2 (Juan M Ruiz).There were 18 at Brazo del Este, Sevilla on 19.2 (Daniel L Huertas).There was one at laguna de los Prados, Málaga city on 17.2 within a Cattle Egret breeding colony (Antonio Tamayo)
 
 

Sacred Ibis* Threskiornis aethiopicus.  One records (1, 2)The bird arrived to Santoña, Cantabria was still there on 1.2 (Fernando Arce; JM Pérez de Ana). Gómez) (2) One of the immatures reported at rio Guadalhorce, Málaga,c. 4 km from river mouth was seen again on 14.2 (Andy Paterson).On 25-27.2 there were 3  (2 on 27.2) at laguna de los Prados, Málaga (J.Corralejo; A.Tamayo; B.López, F.Vázquez, A.Tamayo).

White-tailed Eagle * Haliaaetus albicilla(1) THIRD FOR SPAIN. The inmmature found at Santoña marshes, Cantabria on 7.12 was seen again on 1.2 (Álvaro Bustamante).On 7.2 (J.Quintana, A.Lamsfus, S.Vidal) and 10.2 it was seen flying over la Arenilla area, Santoña (Juan G Navedo, JA Gómez Poza, JJ Aja).Still there on 20.2 (JG Navedo, A.Bustamante, J.Aja, J.A. Gómez)On 28.2 it was seen at Tobedo area, Santoña (J.A.Gómez Poza, J.Aja)

Crested Coot Fulica cristata. There were 11 at Lucio del Lobo, Sevilla, on 1.2 (John Butler). Four more were at Caño de Guadiamar, Aznalcazar, Sevilla on 1.2 (J.Butler). There were 5 at laguna hondilla, Espera, on 1.2 (Daniel L Huertas). One of the released birds in Mallorca, with collar '043' was found dead at Menorca beach on 3.2 (Oscar García/ForumAus)There were 11 at Lucio del Lobo, Aznalcázar, Sevilla on 7.2 (Daniel L Huertas)From 5-8.2 there was one marked '03C' at Talayuelas lagoon, Cuenca (David Hohn Barritt, Sandra García; Rafa Muñoz). On 11.2 the birds marked XP and UT were seen at Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Emma Guinart, David Camps). The bird 03W, released at Llobregat delta on 1.4.2003 was shot by hunters at Ebre Delta in january 2004 (PNDE).Four birds of those released in Mallorca were seen on 14.2: 05L, 023, 08 and another uncollared at S'Albufera, Muro (Lluc Martorell)There was one unringed bird at PN Marismas del Odiel, Huelva, on 28.2  (J.Salcedo, R.Romero).On 29.2 there was one with a pvc ring at Espera, Cádiz and another without at Lebrija-las Cabezas, Sevilla (R.Romero).
 

Demoiselle Crane* Grus virgo(1) The bird found on 11.1 tat Ataquines, Valladolid, within a flock of 300 Common Cranes Grus grus was still there on 1.2 (Y.Ozaeta, G.Ocio, C.Sánchez).

Temminck's Stint Calidris temminckii. On 30.1 there were 11 at Los Labrados, Aznalcazar, Sevilla (John Butler). On 1.2 there remained five (J.Butler).There were 3 at Brazo del Este, La Puebla del Rio, Sevilla on 6.2 (Daniel L Huertas).There were 3 at Isla Menor, Sevilla on 12.2 (Paco Chiclana) There were 4 on 19.2 at Brazo del Este, Sevilla (Daniel L Huertas).There was one at Cerro de las Cigüeñas, Los Palacios, Sevilla on 21.2 (Daniel L Huertas).There was one at Villoruela, Salamanca on 26.2 (Miguel Rouco). Marsh Sandpiper Tringa stagnatilis. There were 4 at Los Guayules, Almonte, Huelva on 28.2 (Debby Etheridge, John Butler).
 

Lesser Yellowlegs* Tringa flavipes(1) On 28.2 (Steve West) and 29.2 (Eva Solanes, Maria, Eladi Ribes, Enric Farré) one was seen  at Clot de la Unilla, Lleida. See a photo below (Eva Solanes)

Terek Sandpiper* Xenus cinereus(1) On 7.2 the bird that is overwintering in the Ebre Delta and was present at least since september 2003 (David Bigas) was seen at El Fangar , Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (D.Bigas, K.de Dios, J.Cañada, G.Ocio, I.Torres).

Bonaparte's Gull* Larus philadelphia(1,2) A bird was seen at Bueu, Pontevedra on 29-30.1 (José Ramón Gómez González). Any attempts of relocation failed up to 3.2. (César Vidal). Ring-billed Gull* Larus delawarensis(1,2,3,4,5) There was an adult at Ares beach, A Coruña on 2.2 (Pablo Gutiérrez). It is believed to be the same individual seen last year in the same place and also reported in this website. Glaucous Gull* Larus hyperboreus(1) (1) There was one at playa de Penarroda, Castropol, Asturies on 14.2 (Gilberto S Jardón). There is a comparative photopage on this bird and an Iceland gull seen at the same place last december here.

Little Swift* Apus affinis(1) A bird was seen at close range at Els Muntanyans del Tarragonés, Tarragona on 22.2 (Jordi Vázquez de Luca). A detailed description has been sent to the Spanish Rarities Committee

Richard's Pipit* Anthus richardi (1,2,3,4)(1) There were 4 at Tancada marshes, Ebre delta, Tarragona on 1.2 (P.Feliu, J.Sargatal, H.Mas, C.Ginés et al).  (2) There were 2 at Arnao, Castropol, Asturies on 1.2 (M Quintana Becerra, C.O.Ania).(3) On 9.2 there was one at Baldaio marsh, Carballo, A Coruña (Xabier Varela).(4) On 18.2 there were four at PN Salinas de Santa Pola, Alacant (Malcolm J Palmer, Wendy, Melvin, Luis Fidel Ramos).
