On 18.3 there remained six (again one moulting to summer plumage) at Santoña,Cantabria (J.G.Navedo). Mediterranean Shearwater Puffinus yelkouan.NEW NE SPANISH RECORD COUNT. On 13.3, in an hour count from 12:45 to 13:45 at Cap de Creus, Girona, a total of 288 birds were counted all flying S. Only 4 Balearics P.mauretanicus were noted in the same time lapse (Miguel McMinn,Ana Rodriguez, Emma Guinart, Ricard Gutiérrez). Previous counts in the same site (all daylight count): 1.3.2003: 5 Puffinus yelkouan, 34 P.mauretanicus; 8.3.2003: 62 P.yelkouan, 205 P.mauretanicus (Ponç Feliu et al)NEW RECENT RECORD. Although in the 1980s parties up to 2000 birds of yelkouan (and more mauretanicus) had been counted in the Straits of Gibraltar area (E.F.García, pers.com.) no recent sightings of such quantities exist. Hence, the above quantities and the staggering count of 1398 yelkouan in half-a-day migrating S through Cap de Creus, Girona on 15.3 represents the highest recent quantity recorded in Spain. The same day, 550 mauretanicus and 469 unidentified long-distance recorded yelkouan-mauretanicus plus 38 Cory's Shearwaters (Calonectris diomedea diomedea) were recorded (Ponç Feliu, Pablo García). Ed.Comment: According to 13.3 and 1 percentage, is likely that many of 469 unidentified were yelkouan 'entering' the NE Spain 'feeding' area from their French breeding grounds. Western
