(1-4) Pontevedra. The birds seen last month continued at Embarcadeiro de A Fianteira, Complejo Intermareal Umia O Grove, Pontevedra on 1.1 (Xurxo Piñeiro @eBird) and 3.1 (Xabier Vázquez Pumariño @eBird). On 5.1 they were seen again (Xurxo Piñeiro @eBird).

(1-3) A Coruña. There were three birds, two ads and a 1w, at Ensenada da Insua, A Coruña on 5.1 (José Luis Rabuñal). On 6.1 they moved to Embalse de Fervenza, A Coruña (Saúl Román, Ana Rivas). On 8.1 they remained there (Xabier Vázquez Pumariño @eBird) and on 10.1 they were seen again (David Calleja).Still there on 17.1 (Delfín González @eBird), see a photo below, and 19.1 (Diego Montenegro @eBird) to 26.1 (Cosme Damián Romay, Sophie Damian).

Asturias. A drake was seen at Embalse de San Andrés, Asturias on 2.1 (Miguel Puente @eBird).Still around on 8.1 (Jorge Valella @observado.es; Manuel Rodríguez @eBird) and 9.1 (Miguel Puente @eBird) to 20-22.1 (Miguel Puente @eBird).n The bird was still there on 31.1 (Miguel Puente @eBird).

 

(2) Valencia. A drake was seen at Racó de l'Olla, Albufera de València on 2.1 (Miguel Chardí, Yanina Maggiotto @birdingalbufera.es). Seen later too (Goyo Chaguaceda @eBird).The bird was seen again on 13.1 (J.I.Dies, M.Chardí @birdigalbufera.es), 14.1 (Agustin Signoli @eBird) and 15.1 (J.I. Dies, M. Chardí, see a photo below -J.I.Dies-) to 17.1 (Adri Colino @eBird).

(3) Pontevedra. The male seen on 23.12.2019 at Ensenada de O Vao, O Grove, Pontevedra was still there on 3.1 (Xabier Vázquez Pumariño @eBird).Seen again on 9.1 (Miguel Martín Jiménez, Luis Jesús Martín @eBird). See a photo below.

 

(4) A Coruña. There was a drake at Esteiro do Anllóns, Neaño, A Coruña, on 6.1 (Ana Rivas, Saúl Román @eBird). On 11.1 it was still there (Ramsés Pérez @eBird). Cantabria. The bird seen at Canteras de Cuchía, Cantabria in December 2019 was still at EDAR Vuelta Ostrera, Cantabria on 1.1 (José Vicente Navarro @eBird). On 2.1 it was seen again (Xavier Parra @eBird; Luís Gracia @eBird; Delfín González @eBird). Seen again on 5.1 (Jesús Menéndez @eBird) and 12.1 (Juan José Ramos Encalado, Juan Antonio Dominguez,Carlos Alberto Ramírez @eBird) to 18.1 (Chencho Fernández, Hugo Sánchez @eBird). Seen again on 22.1 (Hugo Sánchez @eBird) and 24.1 (Francisco Javier Calvo @eBird).n The teal continued in the EDAR Vuelta Ostrera area on 26.1 (Juan Manuel Pérez de Ana, Maite Garrigós, Víctor Salvador @eBird; Esther Werto @eBird; Maria Berna @eBird; Gonzalo Núñez-Lagos Laborda y José Antonio López Constante) and 29.1 (José Maria Canudo, Rocío Sus, María Bern).,

Still present on 21.1 (Manuel Rodríguez @eBird).

(2) Sevilla. A male was reported from Balsa de Melendo, Sevilla on 12.1 (Juan Palma @eBird).Seen again on 13.1 (Rafael García @observado.es; Titina Manzano @eBird) to 14.1 (José Luís Anguita), see a photo below.

The female type bird found at l’Ampolla bay, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona, on 22.11.2019 remained off Port d'Illa de Mar, Deltebre, on 4.1 (Carles Durà @ornitho.cat; Quique Carballal@ornitho.cat; Carles Oliver @eBird; Oriol Muntané -photos below-, Lluís Toldrà, Albert Lozano i Frank Capdevila). Seen on 5.1 (Manolo Sánchez-Blanch; Oriol Soler @ornitho.cat; Xavier Parra, Montse Gutiérrez @ornitho.cat) then absent some days but relocated on 11.1 flying across the bay of Fangar towards port d’Illa de Mar, Deltebre (Javier Subirats; Oriol Cortés @ornitho.cat). Seen again on 12.1 (Manolo Sánchez-Blanch; Javier Subirats; Xesco Puigdomenech @ornitho.cat), 13.1 (Hubert Mas; Joan Barrachina, Ricard Gutiérrez – record shot below-; Jordi Sala @ornitho.cat, Ramón Ruiz) and 18.1 (Xesco Puigdomènech @ornitho.cat). (2) Salamanca. A 2 cy female was found early in the morning on 2.1.2020 at Almendra reservoir, Ledesma, Salamanca, a private estate of restricted access (Miguel Rodríguez Esteban). Seen later by more observers, (Miguel Rouco, Miguel Ángel Martín, Miguel Martín, Antonio Ceballos, Ana C. Narciso, Cristian Osorio, Daniel Sanz); See a photo below (Daniel Sanz) and on 3.1 too ( Hugo Sánchez, Raquel Lozano, JA Fernández Ugarte, Iker Fernández y Miguel Rodríguez Esteban) to 4.1 (Alfonso Rodrigo, Manuel Segura, Manuel Rodríguez, Ismael Romero, Carlos Villaverde y MIguel Rodríguez Esteban). (1) Alicante. The adult ringed bird 'not Tonn' was seen again at El Fondo, Elx, Alacant, on 5.1 (
Jana Marco, Álex Alamán). One bird, not knowing which age, was seen on 4.1 too (Norbert Willaert, Ludo Reynaerts @observado.es).

(2) Alicante. A new bird of the fulvescens form was seen at El Hondo on 16.1 (Jana Marco, Miryam Palomo y Sergio Arroyo). See photos below.

(1) Navarra. A bird was reported from Barásoain, Navarra on 23.1 (Jesús Maria Lekuona).

(1) Gran Canaria. A bird was collected on 15.1 when it crashed into a building at Lanzarote (Cabildo Insular de Lanzarote). Once recovered it was released into the wild.

(2) Girona. A bird was seen exhausted near Olot waste treatment plant, Girona, on 23.1 (Adrià Ferrussola). The bird was caught and hand-held for a while then released into the wild near the plant by the initial observer. Later, around midday, seen by three more observers (Jordi Baucells, Pere Baucells, Oriol Clarabuch) but not relocated during the following days. 1st for Catalunya.

Tarragona. Perhaps the returning adult was found on 24.1 at La Comandanta ricefields, Sant Jaume d’Enveja, Delta de l’Ebre, Tarragona (David Bigas), photos below. On 25.1 it was still there (Sergi Sales, Ricard Gutiérrez, Helena Arbonés). nSeen again on 28.1 (Quim Minoves) and on 31.1 (Marc Gàlvez, José Guerra, thumbnail here).

Sociable Lapwing Vanellus gregarius (1,2)

(1) Badajoz. The bird found on 19.10.2019 at Embalse de Alqueva, Badajoz was still there on 12-19.1 (Julián Cabello @eBird). Seen again on 20.1 (Marc Gàlvez @eBird).

(2) Cáceres. There was a bird at Aldea del Obispo, Cáceres, on 17.1 (Neil Renwick, photo below) and 18.1 (Marc Gálvez @eBird; Martin Kelsey @eBird -photo below; Francisco Lopo @eBird; Francisco Antonio Prieto @eBird). Seen again on 19-21.1 (Neil Renwick @eBird) and 25.1 (Jesús Ruiz @eBird). On 26.1 it was seen again (Neil Renwick @eBird; Antonio Méndez & Ángel Luis Méndez @eBird; Sergio Mayordomo @eBird) and on 29.1 too (Martin Kelsey @eBird; José Velasco @eBird; Sergio Pérez @Bird).

Long-billed Dowitcher Limnodromus scolopaceus (1,2-3)
(1) Sevilla . A bird was found within Doñana Natural Park, in an off-limits area, on 5.1 (J.A. Sencianes). See a thumbnail here.

(2-3) Tarragona . On 25.1 morning Sergi Sales found a bird at ricefields close to Migjorn canal, just N of the Violí area, Sant Jaume d’Enveja, Delta de l’Ebre, Tarragona. The bird was associated to a large flock of Calidris alpina and Calidris pugnax amongst other waders. They were very mobile across the diferent flooded ricefields. The bird was seen flying to the coast (Sergi Sales) but oddly relocated later closer to the river (Ricard Gutiérrez, Helena Arbonés, Sergi Sales), photos below, where seen minutes later too (José Luís Copete, Francesc Kirchner; Xavier Riera; Josep Bel @ornitho.cat). Suspicions on how could have been such quick relocation and sudden appearance were confirmed in the afternoon, when not one but two Dowitchers were seen altogether side by side (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé, José Luís Copete, Francesc Kirchner), thumbnail here. nOne seen again on 27.1 (Màrius Domingo).

(1) León . The returning adult seen last winter that returned to Azud de Santa Marina del Rey, León in October was seen again on 2.1 (Tino Fernández @eBird) and 4.1 (Miguel Martín Jiménez, Luís Jesús Martín @eBird).On 11.1 it was seen and photographed again (Alfonso Rodrigo; Ricardo Rodríguez Llamazares @eBird). See a photo enclosed. This bird was seen again on 17. 1 (Hugo Sánchez @eBird).

Bizkaia/ Cantabria. A bird was seen flying off Cabo de Ajo, Cantabria on 10.1 (Jesús Menéndez @eBird). Perhaps the same bird had been seen before (45-60 minutes) at Cabo Matxitxako, Bermeo, Bizkaia, where perhaps there were two individuals (Ivan Sarabia @ornitho.eus).

(2) Gipuzkoa. A bird was at Getaria harbour on 11.1 (Eneko Azkue @ornitho.eus).

(3-4) A Coruña. Two were seen 2 nautic miles off Muros, A Coruña on 25.1 (BDRI)

(1-2) Sevilla . There was one or perhaps two birds at El Pantano, Los Palacios y Villafranca, Sevilla on 28.1 (Pablo Barrena @eBird). On 31.1 two were confirmed. One was an adult, the other was not aged (Titina Manzano @eBird).

(1) Cantabria. The bird found on 29.11 at Langre, Cantabria remained at Langre in January: 1.1 (Jesús Menéndez @eBird; Jose Vicente Navarro @eBird, photo embedded; Luís Gracia @eBird).Seen again on 5.1 (Isabel Martín, José Alfredo Hernández, David González Ortega @eBird) and 8.1 (Felipe Rosado @eBird).

  

(2-6) Barcelona. There were two birds at El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelon on 1.1 (Pau Esteban @ornitho.cat)., On 5.1 there were 5 a Parc de la Muntanyeta, Sant Boi de Llobregat (Carlos M.V. @ornitho.cat). On 8.1 there was one at Sant Boi too (Rafael González de Lucas @ornitho.cat), plus three more in another part of the village (José Antonio García Moreno @ornitho.cat). Five were seen again at Parc de la Muntanyeta, Sant Boi de Llobregat (Xavier Parra @ornitho.cat).On 12.1 one was seen near Nelson Mandela bridge, El Prat de Llobregat (Juan Carlos Bellido @eBird). On 22.1 a bird was seen at Alcampo comercial park, Sant Boi de Llobregat (Sergi Sales). The same day 22, four were at Ca l’Inglada road, Sant Boi de Llobregat (Jordi Ruestes @ornitho.cat). Four were at Can Dimoni, Sant Boi de Llobregat, on 25.1 (Carlos Nos @eBird).nOn 27.1 there were three at Camí de ca l’Inglada, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Barcelona (Xavi Larruy @ornitho.cat) and two at Nelson Mandela bridge, El Prat de Llobregat (Xavi Larruy @ornitho.cat).).

(7) Barcelona. There was one at Palau de Plegamans, Palau Solità i Plegamans, Vallès Occidental on 7.1 (Albert Mazarico @ornitho.cat). The bird was seen with a Carrion Crow carrying something which seemed material. On 8.1 it was seen at Sentmenat, Vallès Occidental (Israel Estopà @ornitho.cat).

(8) Girona. A bird was seen on 7.1 at Ter river, Torroella de Montgrí, Baix Empordà (Santi Ramos, Anna Planella, Albert Burgas @birdingemporda.com). Also seen on 8.1 at Mas Pla ricefields, Baix Ter (Xavi Larruy, Joan Ventura, Dani Burgas @birdingemporda.com).

topo(9) Gran Canaria. The bird at Taliarte dock, Gran Canaria, was seen again on 21.1 (Xabier Remirez).

 

(10) Murcia. A bird was seen at Cartagena on 22.1, where there presumably remain two seen previously the area (Diego Zamora @eBird).

Paddyfield Warbler Acrocephalus agricola (1)
(1) Vallencia. On 19.10 an adult female bird was trapped and ringed at Tancat de Milia, Albufera de València. THE SAME bird was retrapped at the same place on 4.1.2020 suggesting overwintering in the area (Pedro Marín). See two photos below.

(1) Cantabria. The bird found on 25.12.2019 at Parque de las Llamas, Santander, Cantabria was seen again on 2.1 (Delfín González @eBird).

(2) Gipuzkoa. A bird was seen at Txingudi, Plaiaundi, Gipúzkoa on 3.1 (Rajen Ayerra, David Santamaria @eBird).
