(1) Fuerteventura. The bird found on 1.12.2017 at Rio Cabras gorge, SE of of Tesjuate, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands (28°28'32.7"N 13°54'11.0"W) continued in the rio Cabras gorge on 9.5 (Danni Gilroy). See a vidcap below. This bird was seen again on 17.5 (Gil Ewing @eBird). Not seen the next week (Uca Díaz pers.comm.) nbut apparently relocated briefly on 28.5 at the same place (Nick Moss @observado.es)..

(1) Salamanca. On 5.5 one 2cy was reported from Campos de Alba--Azud de Riolobos, Salamanca (Juan José Ramos Encalado @eBird).

(2) Málaga. On 19.5 a white-headed bird with damaged wings and tail (moulting? 'Le faltan las 4 rectrices centrales y una primaria y dos secundarias en cada ala. Un ejemplar muy pálido con las marcas carpales bien visibles y la cabeza marcadamente clara') was seen at Cola Del Aeropuerto, Málaga (Antonio-Román Muñoz @eBird).

Cantabria. The bird found on 29.1.2017 was seen again on 4.5 at Cicero, Sollagua, Cantabria (Jesús Menéndez @eBird). Seen again on 15.5 (Jesús Menéndez @Aves Cantábricas web) and on 22.5 (Adrián González González @eBird)n to 30.5 (Adrián González @eBird).

(1) Tarragona. On 11.5 a bird was seen at La Llanada ricefields, Amposta, Delta de l’Ebre, Tarragona (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé). See a photo below. Still there on 12.5 (Carles Oliver).

(2) Ciudad Real-Toledo. A bird was found at laguna del Camino de Villafranca, Alcazar de San Juan, Ciudad Real, on 9.5 (José Arcadio Calvo, Álvaro Nicolau). Photographed in the afternoon (José V.Oropesa, César Clemente @eBird; Maria José Valencia @eBird; Pedro Bustamante @eBird), see two photos below. The bird was relocated at laguna grande de Quero, Toledo on 10.5 (Maria José Valencia). It remained at Quero on 11.5 (Fernando Alonso @eBird).

(1) Tarragona. A bird was seen on 4.5 at the Fangar bay, Deltebre, Tarragona (Joanie & Mark Hubinger @eBird). Not relocated. According to the eBird description the bird had "Unmistakable long upturned bill, short orange legs, 2 Black “tramlines” on back. Good close view and photos coming later. Seen by our entire group of 7 with guide, Steve West". See photos below: the bird was ringed with yellow PVC and it seems it comes from Finland (editorial comment)."

(2) Tarragona. On 14.5 an apparently unringed bird was seen at El Goleró, l’Ampolla-Deltebre, Baix Ebre (Jan van Wensveen @observado.es). 16.5 the bird was still at El Goleró (Manolo Sánchez-Blanch).

(1) Valencia. The 2cal year found at l'Albufera de Valencia, València, on 10.4 was seen again on 7.5 (J.I. Dies, M.Chardí @ birdingalbufera.es).

(2) Valencia. An adult was found foraging amongst Mediterranean Gulls at El Bony, Catarroja, València on 26.5 (G. Chaguaceda, T. Alcocer @birdingalbufera.es).

Alicante. The bird seen on 20.4 at Salinas de Santa Pola, Alicante continued there on 3.3 (Daniel Dumas, Ágel Sallent @eBird).

(2-5) Valencia. There was a bird at Racó de l'Olla, l'Albufera de València, València on 15.5 (Yanina Maggiotto, Alison Huff, Christine Kozlosky, Rob Williams, Xiuling Wei, Karmela Moneta, Deidre Asbjorn @eBird). Perhaps this same individual was seen on 24.5 at Marjal dels Moros, Sagunt, València (Karmela Moneta, Deidre Asbjorn @eBird). nOn 31.5 there were four individuals at l'Albufera (Yanina Maggiotto @eBird).

(6) Murcia. On 17.5 there was a bird showing characters of an Elegant tern within the colony of Sandwich Terns Thalasseus sandvicensis at San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia (Gustavo Ballesteros, Antonio Fernández-Caro Gómez). See photos below and a thumbnail here. The author Antonio Fernández-Caro, states the following:

El pasado día 17/05/2018, dentro del programa de seguimiento que, desde hace años, viene realizando Gustavo Ballesteros de las colonias de aves nidificantes en las Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar (Murcia), pudimos observar un ejemplar de Charrán elegante (Sterna elegans) en una de las colonias de Charrán patinegro (Sterna sandvicensis). La presencia de algún ejemplar de Sterna elegans en las Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar no es ya algo excepcional, si bien sólo se ha documentado en 2015 y 2018. En aquélla ocasión participaron Gustavo Ballesteros, Ángel Sallent y quien suscribe.

Hooded Crow Corvus cornix (1-5,6-7,8)
(1-5) Barcelona. The pair breeding at Llobregat river, El Prat de Llobregat, Baix Llobregat had chicks in early May (Ferran López). On 6-7.5 a pair contined breeding at Llobregat river, El Prat de Llobregat, Baix Llobregat and was seen by the river on 6.5 (Claudio Bracho) and the industrial area on 7.5 (Ricard Gutiérrez). See a photo below and thumbnail here.The pair by the river Llobregat produced three chicks that were already visiting the area near the nest on 23.5 (Ferran López).nTwo birds, perhaps from this family, were seen over la Vidala, Remolar-Filipines Nature Reserve, Viladecans, Barcelona on 30.5 (Lluís Vilamajó @ornitho.cat). .

(6-7) Barcelona. Two continued at col.legi Bon Salvador, Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Barcelona, on 7.5 (Arnau Sales i Mireia Sales). On 17.5 a bird was seen at Sant Joan Despí, Barcelona, presumably one of those two (Centre Mediambiental Arrel @ornitho.cat). The pair seen at Sant Feliu de Llobregat the last weeks built a nest at Bon Salvador school at Sant Feliu de Llobregat , Baix Llobregat (Arnau Sales, Mireia Sales & Sergi Sales). The 2nd ever for Catalunya and the iberian península.

(8) Almeria. On 6.5 a long-stayer bird within the Almeria coast was at Níjar, Almeria. It was harrased by two jackdaws Corvus monedula (Jesús Pinilla @eBird).n On 30.5 a bird was seen at Cala de la Media Luna/Mónsul, Cabo de Gata, Almería (Raimundo Martín)..

(1) Cádiz . On 12.5 a bird was seen at Tarifa, Cádiz (Eric van den Brugge @observado.es).On 17.5 one was seen and heard singing at Tarifa too (J.A.Sarry @observado.es).

(1) Navarra. On 27.5.2018 Pastor roseus 1 Tudela, Navarra (Carlos Pérez de Obanos @eBird). Still there on 30.5 (Jesús Mari Lekuona @eBird).

  • Huesca (7)

(2) Huesca. On 27.5 there was a one at Ilche, Huesca (Jesíus Lavedán), between Permisan and Selgua.

(3-7) Huesca. On 31.5 six were found at Fornillos de Barbastro, Huesca (Jorge Sierra, first finding two, then Juan Carlos Albero, Jesús Lavedán @eBird et al counting at least six). See a thumbnail here (Juan Carlos Albero). Not relocated on 1.6 despite intensive search.

(8-19) Zaragoza. On 27.5 there was a flock of 12 individuals in the outskirts of Zaragoza city (Luis Palacio). See a photo below.

(20-21) Girona. There were 2 birds at Riu Muga, Castelló d’Empúries, Alt Empordà on 29.5 (Jean Bisetti @ ornitho.cat).

(22-30) Girona. Nine birds, largest-ever flock recorded in Catalunya to date, were seen on 31.5 at Bellcaire d’Empordà, Baix Empordà (Anna Planella, Ricard Font, Albert Burgas @ornitho.cat).

(30-34) Tarragona. Five birds were seen near the Ulldecona water treatment plant, Montsià on 31.5 (Jordi Pascual). See a photo below.

(1) Huesca. On 9.5 a bird was found at Huesca, near the University (Aitor Mora, Francisco Quesada). See photos below. Many observers attempted twitching the bird (Javier Train, José Maria Canudo @eBird). Still there on 10.5 (Juan Carlos Albero; Itziar Gutiérrez @eBird, Silvia Roy @eBird). Photographed on 10.5 too (Luis Gracia). It is the 2nd record for Aragón (read more in the Rocín blog here).
