(1) Asturias. The bird coming from late November 2015 at Embalse de San Andrés, Gijón, Asturies made it into 2016 and was recorded on 2.1 (Monchu Fernández Revuelta y Clemente Álvarez Usategui), see a photo below, and on 3.1 (Gorka Gorospe). It remained there on 6.1 (Delfín González), see a photo below, and José María Fernández Zapata y Francis del Castillo). On 26.1 it was still there (José V. Oropesa). See a thumbnail here. Snow Goose Anser caerulescens (1-2) CATEGORY D SPECIES
(1-2) Asturias. Bean Goose Anser fabalis (1)
(1) Huelva. The bird found on 27.12 at Marisma Gallega, Hinojos, Doñana, Huelva was seen again on 2.1 (Diego Peinazo, José Márquez, Pilar Ortega). See a thumbnail here (José Márquez).
Green-winged Teal Anas carolinensis (1)
(1) Barcelona. On 6.1 a male was seen and photographed at Resclosa de la Plana, Avià, Barcelona (Jordi Comellas @ornitho.cat) . The bird made it into the January Wildfowl count when it moved to Estany de Graugés, Avià, Barcelona, where it was seen on 17.1 (Pere Aymerich; Daniel Pascual, Miquel Casas @ ornitho.cat)
Blue-winged Teal Anas discors (1)
(1) Tenerife. There was a 1w/♀ at Tejina ponds Tenerife, on 29.1 (Eduardo García del Rey).
Ring-necked Duck Aythya collaris (1,2,3,4-6)
(1) Cáceres. The female found on 29.11.2015 at Embalse de Alcollarín, Cáceres, remained there on 5.1. (César Clemente, Sergio Mayordomo).
(2) Cuenca. On 12.1 an adult male was seen at Presa de La Ruidera, río Guadiela, Albendea, Cuenca (J. Mayordomo & E.Vindel) On 14.1 it was still there (F.Alonso y F.Cuquerella). See a photo below and thumbnails here. This bird remained there on 21.1 (Fernando Alonso), see another photo below.
(3) Madrid. On 26.1 a female was at Parque Regional del Sureste, Junta de los Ríos, Madrid (Joan A. Ximenis).
(4-6) Tenerife. On 30.1 there were 3 individuals, 2♂1♀, at Tejina ponds, Tenerife, Canary Is. (Mark Beevers, Robin Mawer).
Lesser Scaup Aythya affinis (1)
(1) Badajoz. On 7.1 a drake was seen at Embalse de Orellana, Badajoz, a probable returning bird (Marc Gàlvez, José Guerra)On 16.1 the drake was still there, see a thumbnail here (José V. (1) A Coruña. On 24.1 a bird was seen at Cariño, A Coruña (Ricardo Hevia).
Goosander Mergus merganser (1)
(1) Murcia. On 24.1 a bird was seen and photographed at Mar Menor, Murcia (Richard Howard), see a photo below and thumbnails here. Indeed, the bird had already been photographed on 17.1 (Antonio Jesús Hernández), see a thumbnail here too. It remained at Mar Menor on 27.1 (Richard Howard, Helen Commandeur, Tomás García, Francisco J. Palacios, Antonio Fuentes, Conrado Requena, Pablo Perales y Juan A. Capel). Black-browed Albatross Thalassarche melanophris (1)
(1) Pontevedra. On 1.1 an adult was seen off Ria de Vigo, Pontevedra, from Monteferro, Nigrán (David Rodriguez Vieites).
Presumed hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret Egretta gularis x garzetta (1,2,3,4)
(1) Valencia. On 4.1 a bird seen last year remained at La Foia, Sollana, Albufera de Valencia (Toni Alcocer @birdingalbufera,es). This bird was seen again on 27.1 (Toni Alcocer @birdingalbufera.es).
(2) Valencia. A different bird from (1) was seen on 5.1 at La Compra ricefields, Sueca, Albufera de Valencia ( Bosco Dies @birdingalbufera,es). This bird or another was seen on 27.1 at La Socarrada, Sueca (Toni Alcocer @birdingalbufera.es)
(3) Huelva. On 9.1 a grey individual was seen and photographed at Marismas del Odiel, Huelva (Aurora Es). See a thumbnail here.

Pied-billed Grebe Podylimbus podiceps (1-2)
(1-2) Gran Canaria. The 1w found on 2.11 at Estanques de Aldea Blanca, San Bartolome de Tirajana, Gran Canaria continued there on 9.1.2016 (Miguel Avelino Suarez,Frncisco Guerra,Pepi Simba,Liberto y Paqui del Rosario). On 16.1 it remained at Aldea Blanca ponds, Gran Canaria, Canary Is. (Miguel Avelino Suarez,Francisco Guerra y Pepi Simba). See a photo below (Miguel Avelino Suárez).On 17.1 TWO birds were present in two different ponds near Aldea Blanca, Gran Canaria (José García Monzón). The most accessible one, see below, was still near Aldea Blanca on 20.1 (David Perez, Jose Garcia Monzon y Xabier Remírez).The two birds were seen on 30.1 one at Aldea blanca ponds, the other at Matorral pond, Gran Canaria, Canary islands (Miguel Avelino Suarez,Francisco Guerra,Pepi Simba,Liberto). Red-necked Grebe Podiceps grisegena (1) (1) Cantabria. On 7.1 a bird was found at Escalante canal, Santoña, Cantabria (Daniel Villodas, Ernesto Villodas). On 8.1 it was seen and photographed (Jesús Menéndez). See photos in his blog here.It remained there on 12.1(Haritz Sarasa, Gonxal Deán, Joseba del Villar, Itziar Gutiérrez, Gorka Gorospe et al) and 14.1 (Mikel Huici, Rober Herrero). Lesser Flamingo Phoenicopterus minor (1-4,5,6-7)
(1-4) Cádiz. On On 8.1 three birds were present at Salinas de los portugueses, Sánlucar de Barrameda, Cádiz (Rafa Garcia, J.A. Sarry, Carlos Moreno, Fernando E. Navarrete y Violeta). They had been seen on 7.1.2016 too (Lucas Perez) and they remained there on 9.1 (Vanessa de Alba, Vanesa Palacios, Antonio Núñez Ossorio, Marc Gálvez y José Guerra). On 14.1 there were four at Veta la Palma, Espacio Natural Doñana, La Puebla del Río, Sevilla, three of them the three above as they were not at Salinas de los portugueses in the same period. (5) Málaga. On 10.1 an adult was seen within a Greater Flamingo Phoenicopterus roseus group at Fuentedepiedra lagoon, Málada (Juan Pérez-Contreras y Beatriz Pérez Machado)
(6-7) Sevilla. On 26.1 there were a total of six adults at Veta la Palma, Espacio Natural Doñana, La Puebla del Río, Sevilla (José Luís Arroyo), four of them (1-4) above, two new. See two photos below and two thumbnails here.

(1) Cádiz. On On 5.1 an immature was seen at Los Alcornocales, Cádiz (J.A. Sarry). See deteails at observado.org
Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus (1,2,3)
(1) Alicante. The bird seen on 29.12.2015, a 1w, was seen again at El Hondo, Alicante on 2.1 (Óscar Aldeguer y Tomás García; Stefan Aki Ragnarsson). (2) Cáceres. On 2.1 a 1w was at Alagón valley, Galisteo, Cáceres (César Clemente)
(3) Alicante. On 6.1 a 1w was at Embalse de Beniarrés, Alicante (Pep Cantó).
Greater Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga (1,2,3)
(1) Alicante Adult. The bird seen on 16.12.2015 at El Hondo, Alicante, was seen again on an 2.1 (Óscar Aldeguer y Tomás García). And on 14.1 (Óscar Aldeguer, Marcos Fernández, Suna García, Jana Marco). See a thumbnail here (Jana Marco).
(2) Alicante Tonn. The Estonian eagle 'Tonn' seen last 22.12.2015 at El Hondo, Alicante was seen again on an 2.1 (Óscar Aldeguer). On 16.1 it was seen again (Óscar Aldeguer).
(3) Alicante Second winter. On 2.1 a new subadult was seen at El Hondo, Alicante, totalling 3 Great Spotted Eagles that day there(Óscar Aldeguer y Tomás García).
Presumed Lesser Spotted x Greater Spotted Eagle Aquila pomarina x clanga (1,2)
(1) Cádiz. On On 6.1 a bird taken as Aquila pomarina was seen and photographed at La Janda, Cádiz (José Maria Fernández Zapata, Javi Elorriaga y J.A. Sarry). (2) Cádiz. On 16.1 a another very similar bird, also identified as a presumed backcross hybrid (not F1), was photographed at La Janda, Cádiz (Javier Elorriaga/Birding the Strait). See three photos below.
STRIPED CRAKE Porzana marginalis (1) 2ND FOR SPAIN, 5TH FOR EUROPE, 6TH FOR THE WP
(1) Córdoba. After the 1st record for Spain of this species back on 12.12.2010, a bird was seen, photographed and videotaped on 13.1 at Lago Azul pond, near Córdoba city (Diego Peinazo). See a photo and vídeo below . Not relocated despite several attempts.
Allen's Gallinule Porphyrio alleni (1,2)
(1) Málaga. On 16.1 a 1w was found at Pantano nuevo del Ángel, Marbella, Málaga (Manolo Macías), see a photo below and thumbnail here. On 17.1 it was seen again (Manolo Macías, Álex Colorado, Javier Elorriaga). The bird was last seen on 18.1 at Pantano Nuevo del Ángel , Nueva Andalucía , Marbella (Peter Ashley). (2) Lanzarote. On 27.1 a bird was found dead, presumably predated by a feral cat, at Tias Golf Course, Lanzarote, Canary Islands (F.Javier García Vargas). See a photo below.
Pacific Golden Plover Pluvialis fulva (1)
(1) Tarragona. The adult that reached again Migjorn grassfields, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona on 13.8 and that was relocated on 29.11 at camí del Matar fields, Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona moved to nearby Serrallo ricefields, Sant Jaume d'Enveja on 12.1 when it was relocated (Jordi Martí-Aledo).
Sociable Lapwing Vanellus gregarius (1,2)
(1) Cáceres. The bird found at Trujillo plains, Cáceres on 30.12.2015 remained there on 3-4.1.2016 (Tim Collins). It remained at Llanos de Magasca, Trujillo, Cáceres on 5.1 (César Clemente, Sergio Mayordomo). It remained there on 11.1 (Joaquin Del Castillo y Gonzalo Criado), see a photo below and thumbnail here and on 12.1 too (Martin Kelsey), see a photo below. On 16.1 it was still there (José María Fernández Zapata y Francis del Castillo).

Broad-billed Sandpiper Calidris falcinellus (1)
(1) Tarragona. On 10.1 a bird was seen at La Tancada ricefields, Amposta, Delta de l'Ebre (Iago Brugnoli, Jordi Martí-Aledo).
Buff-breasted Sandpiper Calidris subruficollis (1-2)
(1-2) Tarragona. On 2.1 two birds were found at Camí del Matar ricefields, Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Ricard Gutiérrez, Helena Arbonés). See a video and photos below plus thumbnails here. On 3.1 some birders attempted relocation early in the morning but it was not seen until noon (Ricard Gutiérrez, Helena Arbonés). Later, at least three groups of observers could see them. 1st ever overwintering record in Catalonia.

(2) Valencia . On 26.1 a bird was at R.N. Racó de l'Olla, l'Albufera de València (J.I. Dies, M. Chardí, I. Ruiz, G. García, A. Signoli, Y. Maggiotto, T. Alcocer). See photos below. This bird was seen on 27.1 morning (J.I. Dies, M. Chardí, G. García, Y. Maggiotto, B. Dies, V. Paris, J. Barona @ birdingalbufera.es) and 29.1 (M. Chardí, J.I. Dies, C. Mompó @birdingalbufera.es).
Spotted Sandpiper Actitis macularius (1) (1) Lanzarote. The bird found on 30.12.2015 at Arrecife, Lanzarote, Camary Islands remained into January 2016 and was seen on 21.1 (F. Javier García Vargas).

(2) A Coruña . On 20.1 another 1w was found at praia da Gavota, Lires. Carnota, A Coruña (Ramses Perez Rodríguez)
(3) A Coruña . On 25.1 the adult present at Cariño, A Coruña, was seen again (Ricardo Hevia).

(3) Cantabria. On 28.1 a 1w was seen at P.N. Marismas de Santoña Victoria y Joyel, Cantabria (Óscar Llama y Jesús Menéndez).
Baltic Gull Larus fuscus fuscus (1)
(1) Málaga. On 10.1 the adult ringed with yellow PVC C.AC0 returned to Málaga harbour (Salvador García Barcelona).
Caspian Gull Larus cachinnans (1,2,3-4,5,6,7,8-9,10,11,12,13)
(1) A Coruña. On 1.1.2016 there was a 1w at Ortigueira, A Coruña (Vanessa de Alba, Antonio Núñez)
(2) Navarra. On 2.1.2016 a 1w was seen at Culebrete dump, Navarra (Jose Miguel Grande, Gonzalo Dean, Juan Ignacio Dean, Ricardo Rodríguez). See two photos below (Ricardo Rodríguez). It had been found on 27.12.2015 at the same place (Xabier Remirez, Ricardo Rodríguez; Juan Carlos Lorenzo). This bird was seen again on 13.1 at Culebrete, Tudela, Navarra (Jesús Mari Lekuona, Ricardo Rodriguez, Gorka Gorospe y Juan Carlos Lorenzo Rodolfo). (10) A Coruña. On 25.1 there was a bird at Cariño, A Coruña (Ricardo Hevia).
(11) Cádiz. On 24.1, a 1w ringed with green pVC [XPFT], was seen at Chipiona, Cádiz. This bird had been seen previously at Asturies & Huelva (J.A.Sarry). See a thumbnail here. (1) Bizkaia The returning 4th winter bird that returned last month to Ondarroa, Bizkaia was seen again on 5.1 at Puerto de Ondarroa, Bizkaia (David Calleja Marcos, Rafael Calleja González). See a photo below.

(1) A Coruña On 9.1 an adult was found at playa de Alba, Arteixo, A Coruña (Xabier Varela). See a photo below and a thumbnail here. This bird was seen again on 27.1 (Xabier Varela).
(2) A Coruña On 14.1 a 1w was at playa de Matadoiro, Arteixo, A Coruña (José Ramón Sánchez Bugallo; Xose Manuel Carregal). See photos below and thumbnails here (Xosé Manuel Carregal). This bird was seen again on 27.1 (Xabier Varela).

(5) Cantabria. On 13.1 another 1w was found at Santoña, Cantabria (Jesús Menéndez). See a photo below. This bird remained there on 15.1 (José María Fernández Zapata y Francis del Castillo). Desert Wheatear Oenanthe deserti (1)
(1) Toledo . A bird that was present in the area since December 2015 was seen again in late January, e.g. on 27.1 when photographed and videotaped (José Luís Anguita; Jus Pérez Martín). Eyebrowed Thrush Turdus obscurus (1) 1ST FOR SPAIN
(1) Castelló . One bird was hunted at Rosell, Castelló, on 17.1 in an area rich in Song Thrushes (Turdus philomelos). the bird was alone though (pers.com. to Alfonso González) and it will be kept mounted. See photos below (Alfonso González).

(1) Cádiz . On 8.1 a bird was singing at Tarifa, Cádiz (J.A. Sarry).
Presumed hybrid Carrion x Pied Crow Corvus corone x cornix (1)
(1) Palencia . On 3.1 a bird showing intermediate characters between both species was seen at Perales, Palencia (Fernando Jubete; Martín Rey, Cesar Díez, Fernando Casado y Daniel Saldaña). See Martín Rey blog for more details.
Pallas' Leaf Warbler Phylloscopus proregulus (1)
(1) Málaga. On 4.1 a bird was reported from Nerja, Málaga N at 36°46'55.05" W 3°51'03.33" (Robert Locusse)
Yellow-browed Warbler Phylloscopus inornatus (1,2-5,6,7,8-9) (1) Fuerteventura. On 1.1. there remained a bird at Pájara, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands (Eckhard Möller).It remained on 4.1 100m east of church (David Walsh)
(2-5) Fuerteventura. From 1-3.1.2016 there were four birds at SBH Costa Calma Palace Hotel gardens, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands (Michael Opitz)
(6) Granada. On 3.1 a bird was at Granada (Klaas Vedder @ observado.org)
(7) Fuerteventura. On 4.1 a bird was at Betancuria, 100m north of car park, Fuerteventura, Canary is, (David Walsh)
(8-9) Cádiz. On 8.1 two birds were seen at Sánlucar de Barrameda town, Cádiz (J.A. Sarry, Carlos Moreno, Fernando E. Dusky Warbler Phylloscopus fuscatus (1)
(1) Girona. On On 8.1 a bird was found at Closa de les Molleroses, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (Miquel Angel Fuentes, Gerard Dalmau; O.Clarabuch, A.Burgas, G.Carbonell, M.A.Lucena, J.Ventura, M.Gravalós). It remained there on 9.1 when many observers saw it (A.Burgas, G.Dalmau and multiple observers). On 10.1 it continued there (Pau G. Campderròs, Víctor Estrada, Joan Estrada). The bird was seen again on 14.1 when it was still at Les Molleroses canal, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (Sergi Sales, Ricard Gutiérrez), it was videotaped using digiscoping, see below (Ricard Gutiérrez). On 15.1.2016 it moved to the nearby (50 m distance) Quim Franch hide, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (Leestmans Jozef @ ornitho.cat ) but on 16.1 it was again at the original site (Guillem Izquierdo). On 17.1 it remained there (Lluís Gustamante, Jordi Martí-Aledo; (Quique Carballal, Jordi Sala, Sílvia Colls). The bird was seen again on 18.1 (Marc Rovira, Gemma Hurtado @ ornitho.cat). The bird was seen again on 23.1 (Jordi Martí-Aledo) and 24.1 (Hugo Foxonet; Albert Alonso @ornitho.cat). Still present on 30.1 (Xavier Aute; Xavier Riera) to 31.1 (Guillem Saguer @ornitho.cat).
Siberian Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita tristis (1,2,3,4) (1) Fuerteventura. On 3.1 a bird was seen at La Lajita, Pájara Fuerteventura, Canary Islands (Michael Opitz)
(2) Lleida. On 4.1 one was reported at Utxesa reservoir, Torres de Segre, Lleida (Quim Minoves)
(3) Girona. On 14.1 a bird was seen at Estanys d'Europa, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (Àlex Ollé). See two photos below (Àlex Ollé).

(1) Huesca. A breeding plumaged bird was found on 16.1 at San Cosme, Huesca (Juan Carlos Albero, José María Canudo).
