(1) Lanzarote. On 27.6 an adult was seen at Órzola, Lanzarote (Antonio Portales). See a photo below.

(1) Tarragona. There was a black individual only showing a white bib over La Noria and l'Encanyissada lagoons, Amposta, Delta de l'Ebre, on 3.6 (Antoine Derouaux @ornitho.cat).

Presumed hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret Egretta gularis x garzetta (1)
(1)Sevilla. There was one individual showing hybrid characters at Centro de visitantes Jose Antonio Valverde, Doñana National Park, Sevilla, on 27.6 (Carlos Ramos Munell). See a photo below and thumbnail here.

White-backed Vulture Gyps africanus (1)
(1) Cádiz. There was one reported to the Rarebirdspain page on faceboook as seen on 21.6 at Canteras of the entrada Barriada del Cobre, Algeciras, Cádiz (Francisco Montoya y JM Zapata). Not seen afterwards.

(1) Lugo. The first for Galicia was seen on 10.6 at Ourol, Lugo (Miguel Andujar). See a photo below and two thumbnails here.

(2) Asturias. On 20.6 one was seen within a 100 Gyps fulvus flock feeding on a carcase braña de Mumián, Somiedo, Asturias (Héctor Ruiz @ coaciosforu). See a photo below (Héctor Ruiz)

(3) Lugo. The 2nd for Galicia was another different bird seen on 22.6 also at Ourol, Lugo (David Calleja). See a photo below and two thumbnails here.

(4) Huesca. There was one immature on 29.6 at Loporzano, Huesca (Josele Saiz).

Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus (1)
(1) Zamora. The male arrived at Zamora on 13.4 remained at Vezdemarbán, Zamora on 8,6 (Alfonso Rodrigo), associated to breeding Montagu's Harriers Circus pygargus despite it is not yet confirmed if having hybridized with them. See a thumbnail here. Seen again on 15.6 (Alfonso Rodrigo). On 20.6 it was still present (Juan Sagardía).

Terek Sandpiper Xenus cinereus (1)
(1) Tarragona. On 4.6 a new bird, c.f. 2cy and different from May individuals was present at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Jordi Martí-Aledo). See a thumbnail here. This bird remained there on 7-8.6 (Jordi Martí-Aledo). This bird was seen again on 18.6 (Jordi Martí-Aledo).

(1) Pontevedra. On 6.6 there was a 2cy at Playa de a Xunqueira,Moaña, Pontevedra (José Ramón Gómez, Jose Luis Lorenzo "Colón").

(1) A Coruña . On 5.6 there was an adult at Matadoiro beach, Arteixo, A Coruña (Xabier Varela). See a photo below.

(1) Murcia . On 29.6 a bird showing characters of Elegant tern was seen at San Pedro del Pinatar saltpans, Murcia (Richard Howard). See a photo below and thumbnails here.

topoABYSSINIAN ROLLER Coracias abyssinicus (1) MEGA. 1ST FOR THE CANARIES AND SPAIN
(1) Fuerteventura. On 9.6 visiting birdwatcher Alain Pataud found an adult at Barranco de la Torre, Fuerteventura. He took photos and contacted both SEO/BirdLife at the Canaries and this website. On 11.6, before leaving the island, he took photos again and the record was fully confirmed (Alain Pataud). Same day it was seen by local observer Marcelo Cabrera too. On 13.6 the bird remained in the area (F.Javier García Vargas, Antonio Unquiles, Juan Sagardía). Read about the finding in Spanish in Aves Canarias blog here. And see the special photopage with Alain Pataud photos in this website here. Bird shy, behaving wild and with no traces or signs of captivity hence considered a wild vagrant. (1) Fuerteventura. On 13.6 one individual was seen, heard and photographed at Barranco de la Torre, Fuerteventura (Francisco Javier García Vargas, Antonio Unquiles, Juan Sagardía). After some consults bird was properly confirmed as orientalis. See two photos below.

Black-headed Bunting Emberiza melanocephala (1) E LIST PRESUMED ESCAPED BIRD
(1) Zamora . On 7.6 a male was found and photographed at Belver de los Montes, Zamora (Luís Juan Pascual). See a photo below. Later in the day it was seen again when it was seen to be carrying a private collection ring,hence becoming an escaped bird (Alfonso Rodrigo,Manuel Rodríguez). On 8.6 it was seen again when photographed. See below and thumbnails here. Also an entry in Alfonso Rodrigo blog 'El Pernil' with comments in Spanish here. Seen again on 11.6 (Luís Juan Pascual).

Such records should be submitted to Juan Antonio Lorenzo at canarias @ seo.org** Canarian records of species which are rarities nationwide are included in the main text in violet type.*** Ringed birds in Spain have to be submitted and accepted by CR/SEO-BirdLife, according to Environment Ministery of Spain and the authonomous communities agreements, to be accepted as valid ringings in the national database. Otherwise, non submitted or rejected records will be deleted and ringings will not be included in national or international databases. Ringers not submitting rare bird ringings will be listed. Submitting ringing records is hence specially encouraged as a contribution to global bird knowledge..

From March 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records committees. See here those rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex, Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included from 2006.



Recent reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC for their knowledge if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind which needs a form to be sent.Photos could be cropped for editorial reasons.Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with anew icon. We would welcome to receive a spare copy of those journals using these news for commercial purposes. Contact RG at address at the front page.
