(1) Asturias. On 9.11 one 1w bird was found at Parque Isabel la Católica, Gijón, Asturias (Manuel Quintana, Conchi Ovín). See a thumbnail here. (1) A Coruña . On 9.11 a drake was found at Embalse de Cecebre, Abegondo/Betanzos, A Coruña (Alberto Monteagudo, Bea Louzao). See a picture in the Rarebirdspain twitter here (follow us in twitter at @rarebirdspain)

(2) Lugo . On 19.11 a ,♀ perhaps 1w, was found at Riocaldo and Pedroso gravel pits, Begonte, Lugo (Xosé Manuel Carregal).

(1) Cádiz . On 13.11 a bird was reported from Tarifa island, Cádiz (Álex Onrubia). 4th for Spain if accepted.

Barcelona. The bird seen in previous months was seen again at Can Dimoni, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Llobregat delta, on 15.11 (Javier Oliver at ornitho.cat) but it's moving in the wide mid Llobregat delta area because on 9.11 it was seen at Els Reguerons, Viladecans, few km from Can Dimoni (Marc Illa @ ornitho.cat).

(2) Huelva. There was a bird at Isla Cristina marshes, Huelva, on 23.11 (Antonio Aguilera y Manuel Díaz). This same pied bird was seen again there on 25.11 (Alberto Savijn, José Luis Anguita). See two thumbnails here.

(3) Huelva. On 30.11 there was another individual at Isla Cristina marshes, Huelva, dark, but it is not clear if it is a pure individual or a bird present in the area since 2011 (José Luis Anguita). See a thumbnail here.

(1) Cádiz. One was seen on 11.11 at Los Barrios, Cádiz (Javier Elorriaga, Álex Colorado). See a thumbnail here (Javier Elorriaga).

(1) Sevilla. On 14.11 a male was seen at Espacio Natural Doñana, Aznalcázar, Sevilla (Paco Chiclana)

Greater Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga (1,2,3,4,5)
(1) Alicante. The Greater Spotted Eagle similar to Tonn but without satellite antenna (Not Tonn) was seen at El Hondo on 2.11 (Joan Ximenis and others -Spainbirds-). Still around on 15.11 (Juanma Pérez-García, J.L.Echevarrías, P.Perales, F.Botella, J.A.Sánchez-Zapata y A.Orihuela).Seen altogether Not Tonn, Tonn and the adult on 17.11 from the boardwalk at the back of the Visitor Centre at Hondo (Graham Critchell). On 23.11 again (G.Critchell). See a photo below (Graham Critchell). On 28.11 it was seen from the La Raja Observation Platform and on 30.11 from the North OP (Graham Critchell).

(2) Alicante. The Greater Spotted Eagle Tonn was seen from the boardwalk behind the Visitor Centre at El Hondo on 5.11 (Graham Critchell). It was seen on 11.11 afternoon (Óscar Aldeguer) and 15.11 (Juanma Pérez-García, J.L.Echevarrías, P.Perales, F.Botella, J.A.Sánchez-Zapata y A.Orihuela; Graham Critchell). Graham Critchell reports that 'his plumage has changed from when I first saw him in September (I sent you a picture). His back has lost any signs of white markings and the 'V' in the base of his tail has now turned a buff colour making him in pretty much adult plumage now'. Seen and photographed on 9.11 (Brian Vickers). See a photo below. Seen altogether Not Tonn, Tonn and the adult on 17.11 from the boardwalk at the back of the Visitor Centre at Hondo (Graham Critchell). Seen on 24.11 (Mark Powell, Bryan Thomas and Jeff & Kay Hazell) and on 27.11, when it was seen again from the Visitor Centre Boardwalk (Graham Critchell)

(3) Alicante. An adult was seen at El Hondo on 6.11 from the boardwalk behind the Visitor Centre at El Hondo (Graham Critchell) and from from the North OP within the reserve on 9.11 (Graham Critchell; Óscar Aldeguer et al). On 16.11 too (Graham Critchell). Seen altogether Not Tonn, Tonn and the adult on 17.11 from the boardwalk at the back of the Visitor Centre at Hondo (Graham Critchell). Seen again on 22,24 and 27.11 (Mark Powell, Bryan Thomas and Jeff & Kay Hazell).

(4) Girona. A 1w was found on 17.11 at Pals ricefields, Girona (Gerard Dalmau, Miquel Angel Fuentes). See a thumbnail here. On 18.11 (Lluís Mir @ornitho.cat), 20.11 (Vittorio Pedrocchi, Arnau Bonan; Oriol Clarabuch, Lluis Mir, Fran Trabalon), 21.11 (F.Trabalon, J.Garcia, T.Alonso, D.Roca, S.Sales) and 23.11 (Boris Weitzsmann) it was still there. See photos below.Not seen on 27.11 (R.Gutiérrez) but apparently same bird found at Remolar-Filipines Nature Reserve, Viladecans, Llobregat Delta, Barcelona on 30.11 (Eio Ramón; Ferran López et al). See photos below and compate them with the Pals bird at Fran Trabalón blog -and below- : apparently are the same individual.

(5) Alicante. The subadult (3rd-4th winter) found at El Hondo, Alicante, on 30.10 was seen again on 21.11 from the boardwalk at the back of the Visitor Centre at Hondo being mobbed by 3 Booted Eagles Aquila pennata (Graham Critchell). The subadult was seen on 22 and 27.11 (Mark Powell, Bryan Thomas and Jeff & Kay Hazell) and 30.11 from the North OP (Graham Critchell).

(1) Tarragona. The bird found on 28.8 at grassfields near Migjorn, Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona which moved on 27.10 to Illa de Riu, Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona, was relocated at the grand same area, now La Comandanta ricefields, on 1.11 (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé). See a photo below.
Relocated at the same place on 30.11 (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé) and later seen by other authors (Cristian Jensen/Audouin Birding Tours, Jorma Tenuovo; Oriol Clarabuch et al).

White-rumped Sandpiper Calidris fuscicollis (1-4,5)
(1) Asturias. There were one on 1.11 and four at Penarronda, Castropol, Asturias from 2-3.11 (Pablo Fernández). See photos below, a thumbnail here and more information in his blog here. On 3.11 one was fixed as an adult, the rest 1w (Pablo Fernández; José Portillo). The four birds remained there on 7.11 (Pablo Fernández, Pablo Miki) but only two were around on 9.11 (Toño Salazar). On 10.11 the other two (ad +1w) were relocated at Salías, Ría del Eo, Asturias (Pablo Miki e Iván Laxe). The adult was last seen at Salías on 12.11 (Pablo Miki).

(1-2) Tenerife. From 17.10-5.11.2013 two birds were seen and photographed at Charcas de Tejina y Bajamar, La Laguna, Tenerife, Canary Islands (Ramón Fernández, Rubén Barone y Rolf Larsson). On 6.11 and 7.11 they were still there (Antonio Acedo; Eduardo García del Rey), Still visible on 8.11 (Antonio Acedo, David Pérez) , see photos in David blog here, and 9.11 (Juan Sagardía, Óscar Llama, Rubén Cerdeña).See the special identification page here!. Two birds still present on 12.11 (Antonio Acedo) and 16.11 (Clemente Álvarez Usategui,Nacho Castelao, Xurxo Piñeiro).One of them seens to be confirmed as delicata by all people consulted (Juan Sagardía). (1) Málaga . There was a metal-ringed bird at Málaga harbour HT 239.512, seen previously on 15.12.2012, 2.3.2013 and 16.3.2013 (Salvador García). See photos below and two thumbnails here.

(1) A Coruña . The adult frequenting the Lires, Cee, A Coruña these last winters which returned to the area on 30.10 was seen and photographed again on 6.11 (Fernando Pereiras de la Cal). (1) Girona . One was found at Girona city on 18.11 (Joaquim Martínez; Gerard Dalmau). It was seen and relocated intermitantly during the following days: 19.11 (Ponç Feliu. M.A.Fuentes et al), 20.11 (Ponç Feliu, Eikel Delgado) and 21.11 (F.Trabalon,J.Garcia,T.Alonso,D.Roca,S.Sales). On 23.11 it was trapped and ringed (ring 293203, Gabri de Jesús et al, see a picture in the rarebirdspain twitter) and a thumbnail here. Last seen on 24.11 (Pau García).

From March 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records committees. See here those rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex, Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included from 2006.



Recent reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC for their knowledge if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind which needs a form to be sent.Photos could be cropped for editorial reasons.Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with anew icon.
