(1) Navarra . On 20.10 one was seen at Pitillas lagoon, Navarra (Sebastián Lara, Inma Montoya, Jose Pinillos, Javier Rodríguez y Jesús Ucha, Grupo Ornitológico de la Rioja). It was still there on 21.10 (Gorka Gorospe), 23.10 (Gorka Gorospe), 24.10 (José Ardaiz) and 25.10 (Lander Goñi). See a thumbnail here.

(1) A Coruña . On 7.10 there was one individual at Lago das Pontes, Puentes de García Rodríguez, A Coruña (José Luis Vizoso). This bird was still there on 16.10 (David Calleja) and 20.10 (José Luis Vizoso).

PRESUMED ESCAPE
(1) Girona . On 11.10 a bird initially identified as leucopsis was found at PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (O.Clarabuch). Then it was reidentified as presumed hybrid (Àlex Ollé) and remained several days in the Cortalet lagoon. It was last seen on 23.10 (Angel Pérez Pallarés at ornitho.cat). Presumed hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret Egretta gularis x garzetta (1,2,3)

(1) Cáceres. There was a bird on 9.10 at Arrocampo reservoir, Cáceres (Sergio Mayordomo)

(2) Barcelona. The bird seen in previous months was relocated at Riera de Sant Climent, Viladecans, Delta del Llobregat, Barcelona on 12.10 (Rafael González de Lucas at ornitho.cat). Seen again on 27.10 (Grup local SEO/BirdLife Barcelona).

(3) Valencia. The individual seen last month at El Bony, Catarroja, Albufera de València and moved later to Tancat de la Ratlla, Silla, was seen again on 11.10 (Pablo Vera).

Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus (1.2,3)
(1) Albacete. The male seen on 28.9 at Llanos de Riachuelos, Albacete was still there on 2.10 (Raúl
Galindo, Juan Camacho y David Cañizares).

(2) Segovia. There was on 5.10 an adult male at Lastras de Cuéllar, Segovia (Xurxo Piñeiro).

(3) Huelva. On 30.10 there was a male at Cancela de La Escupidera, Marismas de Hinojos, Doñana, Huelva (Rafael Romero)

Greater Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga (1,2,3,4,5)
(1) Alicante. The Estonian eagle 'Tonn' remained at El Hondo, Alicante on 6.10 according to the satellite-tracking data map. Tonn remained at El Hondo until 13.10 when it moved N to Elda, Alicante, then on 14.10 c.20 km E of Almansa, Albacete, but on 16.10 it returned to El Hondo only to travel again on 17.10 towards Yecla, Murcia and to remain at El Hondo from 18.10 (given satellite recordings are accurate enough). Still at El Hondo on 29.10 (Satellite data track).

(2) Alicante. Another Greater Spotted Eagle similar to Tonn but without satellite antenna (Not Tonn?) was seen at El Hondo on 19.10 (Graham Critchell). See a photo below. It was seen again on 26.10 (Graham Critchell and others).On 29.10 it was seen at Vistabella, S El Hondo, Alicante (Barry Chambers, Malcolm Palmer) and on 30.10 again at El Hondo (Graham Critchell; Óscar Aldeguer Peral).

(3) Alicante. An adult Greater Spotted Eagle was seen from El Hondo visitor center on 10.10 (Graham Critchell).

(4) Navarra. A bird was seen at Sarriguren, Navarra, on 26.10 when it was not clear if it was a clanga or a pomarina (Chema Vadillo). On 28.10 it was seen again at Sierra del Perdón, Navarra (Jesús María Lekuona).

(5) Alicante. A subadult (3rd-4th winter) was seen at El Hondo on 30.10 (Graham Critchell). See a picture below of the bird mobbed by Corvus monedula. Seen again in the afternoon (Óscar Aldeguer Peral).

(1) La Palma . There was one at sewater pools by La Palma Airport, La Palma island on 4.10 (Tom Brereton y Marcus John). On 5.10 it was seen again, when photographed (Robert Burton). See an entry in his blog here.On 8.10 it was still present (Robert Burton). The bird was seen again on 18.10 (Javier Orrit) and 19-27.10 (Robert Burton). On 31.10 it remained there (Juan Sagardía, José Portillo, Robert Burton).

(1) Tarragona. The bird found on 28.8 at grassfields near Migjorn, Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona
was relocated on 8.10 (Cristian Jensen/Audouin Birding Tours) and on 9.10 with 32 Golden Plovers P.apricaria (Ricard Gutiérrez), just before the start of hunting season... . See a photo below and thumbnails here. The bird was relocated on 27.10 quite far from the initial place at Illa de Riu, Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé). On 27.10 it was still present (Jordi Martí-Aledo)

(1) Barcelona. The juvenile initially seen on 18.9 at Cal Nani, Delta del Llobregat, Barcelona and remaining until late september, continued in the same area on 1.10 (Ferran López).

(2) Valencia. The juvenile found on 20.9 at R.N del Tancat de Milia, Albufera, València was last seen on 1.10 (Toni Alcocer).

(3) Toledo/Ávila. The juvenile seen at Embalse de Rosarito, Oropesa/Candeleda, Toledo/Ávila, Castilla La Mancha/Castilla y León on 29.9, remained there on 1.10 (Dave y Samuel Langlois). See a photo below and thumbnail here.

*** Ringed birds in Spain have to be submitted and accepted by CR/SEO-BirdLife, according to Environment Ministery of Spain and the authonomous communities agreements, to be accepted as valid ringings in the national database. From March 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records committees. See here those rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex, Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included from 2006.



Recent reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC for their knowledge if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind which needs a form to be sent.Photos could be cropped for editorial reasons.Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with anew icon.
