Fulvous Whistling Duck Dendrocygna bicolor (1)

(1) Valencia . On 16.6 a bird that had been found on 12.6 at R.N del Tancat de Milia, Sollana, (T. Alcocer/Fundación Global Nature) was seen again at the same site (Pedro Marín/Grup d'anellament GOTUR).See a couple of photos and more information at Birding Albufera here.

(1) Asturias . One adult was seen from Punta de la Vaca, Gozón, Asturias, on 1.6 (Jorge Valella). See three snapshots and a brief chronicle of the sighting in his blog here.

topoCAPE VERDE SHEARWATER Calonectris edwarsii (1) THIRD FOR SPAIN
(1) Montaña Clara (N of Lanzarote). On 28.6 one bird was caught, measured and sampled within a Cory's Shearwater colony (Calonectris diomedea) at Montaña clara islet, North of Lanzarote, Canary Islands (Laura Zango, Jacob González-Solís). See a special photopage here.

FIFTH FOR SPAIN
(1) Alicante . One was first heard singing in the European Storm-petrel cave at Benidorm Island, latter trapped and ringed there on 15.6 (Guillermo Mayor, Raúl Ramos).See two cell phobne photos below (Guillermo Mayor).Presumably heard again in the colony on 17.6 night, but not fully confirmed (Guillermo Mayor). See new photos below (Raül Ramos) and thumbnail here (Guillermo Mayor).

(1) Cádiz. There was an adult within a heronry but not breeding at Laguna del Tarelo, Espacio Natural Doñana, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz, on 19.6 (José Luís Arroyo). See a photo below and a thumbnail here. Record submitted to CR/SEO-BirdLife.

Presumed hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret Egretta gularis x garzetta (1,2,3)
(1) Cáceres. The bird featured last month at Arrocampo resevoir, Cáceres and presumably breeding there or at least visiting the heronry, was last seen on 22.5 (A.Redondo) in another heronry, thus presumably failing in its breeding attempt. Further visits up to now have not relocated the bird (S.Mayordomo in litt.).

(2) Barcelona. The hybrid reported at Can Dimoni, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Llobregat delta, Barcelona was seen again on 16.6 (pers.com. to Ferran López)

(3) Ciudad Real. One presumed hybrid was seen on 15.5 (Estefanía Franch) and 16.6 at Isla del Pan, PN Tablas de Daimiel, Ciudad real (Juan Diego Acevedo). See a thumbnail here.

(1) Cáceres. On 10.6 a Lanner Falcon was seen at Los Cerralbos (between Trujillo and Santa Marta de Magasca), Cáceres (Martin Kelsey, Jane and Don Walton).

(1) Tarragona
A bird found at Migjorn ricefields, Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona on 27.5 remained there on 1.6 (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé). See a photo in Rarebirdspain twitter here (Cristian Jensen).

GREY-HEADED GULL Chroicocephalus cirrocephalus (1)

(1) Valencia . On 11.6 there was an adult in breeding plumage at Racó de l'Olla saltmarsh, Valencia, L’Albufera de Valencia (J. Ignacio Dies, Miguel Chardí). The 3rd for Spain. Previous records are those of an adult between 30 June and 15 August 1971 at Doñana marshes (Ardeola, 46: 140) and a 1w at Gran Canaria island, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria harbour on 2 February 2005 (Ardeola 54(2), 2007, 405-446). (1) Huelva . There was an adult at Parque Nacional de Doñana beach, Almonte, Huelva, on 10.6 (José Luis Arroyo).See a photo below and two thumbnails here.

(1) Bizkaia . There was an adult at Getxo harbour, Bizkaia, on 1.6. It was together with one Arctic tern, nine Common Terns and one Sandwich Tern, believed all to be on passage (Iván Sarabia).

PACIFIC SWIFT Apus pacificus (1)
FIRST FOR SPAIN
(1) A Coruña . One was reported and record-shot photographed at A Frouxeira lagoon, Valdoviño, A Coruña on 23.6 (Xabier Prieto). See the chronicle in galician in his blog here. If submitted and accepted could be a 1st for Spain (previous claim for the same site and author unfortunately could not be accepted due to not enough proof for a 1st for the country).

(1) Cádiz . One bird, presumably the one remaining individual from those featured in may 2013, was seen again in Tarifa, Cádiz: on 23.6 one was near Calzadilla de Téllez street, Tarifa, Cádiz (Emilia Jiménez Vaquero).

(1) Cantabria . The bird found on 27.5 at Ajo, Bareyo, Cantabria, remained there on 2.6 (Ángel Ruiz Elizalde). Last seen on 3.6. (Ángel Ruiz Elizalde).Perhaps this same individual was seen flying over cabo Peñas, Asturtias, on 12.6 (Manuel Quintana Becerra). See two thumbnails here.

Otherwise, non submitted or rejected records will be deleted and ringings will not be included in national or international databases. Ringers not submitting rare bird ringings will be listed. Submitting ringing records is hence specially encouraged as a contribution to global bird knowledge..

See here those rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex, Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included from 2006.



Recent reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC for their knowledge if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind which needs a form to be sent.Photos could be cropped for editorial reasons.Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with anew icon. We would welcome to receive a spare copy of those journals using these news for commercial purposes. Contact RG at address at the front page.
