(10-11) A Coruña . The two birds found on 23-24.11.2012 (adult and 1w) were still present at ría de Ortigueira, A Coruña on 19.1 (José Guerra, Marc Gàlvez, Sergio Mayordomo y Eva Palacios) to 26.1 at least (José M. Alonso Pumar).

. One individual was on 4.1 at Moheda alta ricefields, Badajoz (César Clemente, Pilar Goñi, Pepe Guisado y Sergio Mayordomo).

(2) Palencia . On 10.1 there was one at La Nava, Palencia (Javier Otal, Diego Santamaría, Eva Juarros et al).

(3) Cáceres . One seen last december at embalse de Borbollón, Santibáñez el Alto, Cáceres, was seen again on 17.1 (César Clemente y Javier Mahíllo).e

(1-3) Palencia . There were three individuals at la Nava lagoon, Palencia on 2.1 with 5000 Greylags (Delfín González). See three thumbnails here

(4) Cantabria . There was an individual at Escalante polder, Cantabria, on 4.1 (David Calleja, Jesus Remirez, Matias Ruiz y Ricardo Rodríguez; Quique Carballal).

(5) Sevilla . There was a bird at Los Caracoles, Aználcazar, Sevilla on 7.1 (Paco Chiclana).

(6) Cáceres . One seen last december at embalse de Valdecañas, El Gordo, Cáceres was seen again on 15.1 with 3.000 Anser anser, 1 Branta leucopsis and 9 Anser albifrons (Javier Prieta). Still there on 20.1 (Martin Kelsey).

(7) Zamora . On 31.1 one individual was found at Villafáfila lagoons, Zamora (Alfonso Rodrigo).

(8) A Coruña . On 28-29.1 there was a bird at Vilarrube, Valdoviño, A Coruña (Diego Santamaría; Ricardo Hevia, Antonio Martínez Pernas). Bird may have been there since 15.1 (F.Giròn).See a thumbnail here

Cáceres . On 4.1.2013, a ♂, perhaps the same seen last month at Vegas Altas, Badajoz. was seen at Madrigalejo, Cáceres (P. Tapia, M. Jiménez, Mariano Martínez, Lola Huerta, Jose Guerra, Pilar Goñi, Pepe Guisado, César Clemente y S.Mayordomo). The bird remained in the area on 8.1 (Marc Gàlvez, P.Tapia, Maribel sp., José Guera) and 12.1 (José Gömez Aparicio, Óscar Llama, Javier, Vicky et al). Also present on 15.1 (Martín Kelsey), and on 26.1, when photographed (see below and a thumbnail here, Steve Fletcher).

(1)Alicante. The 1w seen on 24.12 at El Hondo perhaps was the same seen on 4.1.2013, at Peña de las Águilas, Elche, Alicante. 8 km far from El Hondo (Adolfo Quiles).

(2)Alicante. The adult overwintering in the area was seen again on 14.1 (Graham Critchell) and 23.1 too as well as from the Vistabella Road south of Hondo PN on 29.1 (Graham Critchell).

(3)Alicante. The subadult named 'not Tonn' was seen being mobbed by Booted Eagles and Buzzards c800m south of the Main OP on 16.1 (Graham Critchell).

(4)Alicante. The Estonian eagle 'Tonn' was at El Hondo lagoon at least until 26.1 (Birdmap.5dvision.ee)

(2) Málaga. There was a 3w bird showing characters of Baltic Gull at Málaga harbour on 27.1 (Salvador García). There are a number of photos below. The bird was not ringed and hence, we cannot give 100% certainty on the id of the bird given current knowledge but it's included here because it shows characters of this form (ed.comment).

(4-5) Lleida. On 18.1 two birds (at least!) were seen near Baqueira Beret sky resort at Naut Aran, Val d'Aran, Lleida (Marc Alonso). Not relocated anymore.

(6-8) Cantabria. On 24.1, there birds were seen at Ramales de la Victoria, Cantabria (Cristina Cano). These birds remained there on 31.1 with two more (Máximo Sánchez Cobo, Marta Díez y de Ángel Renedo), see a photo here.

(9-10) Cantabria. On 31.1 two birds joined the three found on 24.1 at Ramales de la Victoria, Cantabria (Máximo Sánchez Cobo, Marta Díez y de Ángel Renedo), see a photo here.

FIRST FOR SPAIN
(1) Tarragona . On 12-13.1 there was a male at Erms de la Tancada, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé). The bird was relocated on 16.1 (Carles Domingo, Jordi Martí-Aledo; Ricard Gutiérrez) when photographed again too. Also present later on the afternoon of 16.1 (Cristian Jensen/Audouin Birding Tours) and 19.1 (Juan Sagardía, Óscar Llama, José Portillo, Josep Tantull, Roser Solé, Vittorio Pedrocchi, Sergi Fernandez, Josep Bujons, Ferran López, Rafael Armada, J.Luis Copete et al). (1) Navarra. The bird found on 29.12 at Pamplona citadel park, Navarra continued there into the new year 2013: 2.1 (J.Portillo,R.Solé,J.Tantull,M .Gàlvez), 3.1 (Fernando Arce et al) & 5.1 (José Ardaiz). It remained there until 12.1 at least (Ricardo Rodríguez, see a photo below) and 13.1 (J.Ardaiz). It was still present in the park on 18.1 (Ricardo Rodríguez). Relocated on 31.1 at Citadel park, Pamplona (Ricardo Rodríguez)

*** Ringed birds in Spain have to be submitted and accepted by CR/SEO-BirdLife, according to Environment Ministery of Spain and the authonomous communities agreements, to be accepted as valid ringings in the national database. Otherwise, non submitted or rejected records will be deleted and ringings will not be included in national or international databases. Ringers not submitting rare bird ringings will be listed. Submitting ringing records is hence specially encouraged as a contribution to global bird knowledge..

From March 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records committees. See here those rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex, Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included from 2006.



Recent reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC for their knowledge if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind which needs a form to be sent.Photos could be cropped for editorial reasons.Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with anew icon.
