Tundra Bean Goose Anser fabalis rossicus (1,2-3)

(1) Zamora On 15.9 a Bean Goose was seen at the Villafáfila information center lagoon (J.M. San Román y J.J. Orduña). On 18.9 it was seen again and photographed (J.M. San Román y Alfonso Rodrigo). See a photo below (A.Rodrigo). This bird is believed to be wild as Alfonso Rodrigo explains in his blog 'El Pernil' here (in Spanish). On 22.9 it was seen again (J.M. (Fea's/Madeira's) Petrel Pterodroma feae/madeira (1-4,5,6,7,8-9,10,11,12)
(1-4) A Coruña. FOUR birds were seen flying W on 5.9 from Estaca de Bares cape, A Coruña. 4th year in-a-row it's seen from there (Daniel López Velasco, Ricardo Hevia, Dave McAdams, Alberto Savijn). According to Spanish RC member Daniel López, one bird (shown below in a collage, click on the image to see a larger sized version -opens in another browser window-), one of the birds is best named 'Zino's/Fea's/Deserta's petrel since its characteristics would recall Pterodroma madeira rather than a feae/desertas.It showed extensive white on the underwing coverts, well visible by all observers in the field, a feature more associated with P.madeira, but also shown by a minority of P.'deserta'. It was structurally light built as well as relatively small in comparison with Puffinus puffinus also seen. The other three were darker below. (6-7) Cádiz On 17.9 there were 2 birds at Cazalla bird observatory, Tarifa, Cádiz (Andy Paterson and 30 observers more). See two thumbnails here and another from Alan Gilbertson lower in the same column.

(8-9) Cádiz On 18.9 there were 2 birds: at 15.08 a biird was flying alongside the N340 just north of Tarifa. It had been feeding on a carcase in a field next to the road with griffons (1st photo below) and at 10.50 another flew low over the carpark at Algarrobo with a group of about ten or more griffons (2nd photo below) (Alan Gilbertson).

(3) Cádiz On 10.9 a bird was reported seen at La Janda, on the road north between the canal and the cattle farm that stands on the road to Presa de Celemin, Cádiz (Alan Gilbertson). (14) Tarragona A very nervous juvenile bird was found at grassfields near Migjorn, Delta de l'Ebre on 24.9 morning (Ricard Gutiérrez; Josep Tantull, Roser Solé, Anna Tantull). See two thumbnails here.
topo(15-16) La Palma. On 19.9 two birds reached Las Martelas ponds area, Los Llanos de Aridane, La Palma island, Canaries (Robert Burton). A Coruña. On 27.9, at 13h, a Buff-bellied Pipit was found at Parque de Bens, W A Coruña city, Galicia (Cosme Damián Romai). See the three first photos in thumbnail mood here. Originals are in the rarebirdspain yahoogroups page you can follow through homepage and directly here and here. The bird news were quickly broadcasted and other authors could see the bird in the afternoon, featuring photos in their blogs (Pablo Gutiérrez and Fernando Pereiras). Seen again on 28.9 at the same site (Dani López Velasco, Nacho Castelao González, Pablo Fernández García y C.Damian Romai; Ricardo Hevia, José Miguel Alonso Pumar). The bird occurrence was featured in local media as 'La Voz de Galicia' (see link here). On 29.9 it was still there (David Ortega, Mario Alonso, Manolo Carregal, C.D.Romai; Jose R. Bugallo, David Díaz, David Martínez y David Calleja) and the below photos were taken. A video of the bird (David Calleja) and a discussion on its occurrence can be seen in the Rarebirdspain blog here. On 30.9 it was still seen (Antonio Sandoval; Marcos Suarez).

(1) Valencia There was one juvenile at Tancat de la Ratlla, PN Albufera de València, València on 2.9 (B. Dies, J. García, P. Marín y T. Alcocer). See photos of this bird at Birding Albufera site here. Still there on 4.9 (Bosco Dies; José Ramón Martín Zaforas) and 7.9 (Bosco Dies).

(2) topoFuerteventura. On 12.9 a juvenile was seen at Catalina Garcia, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands (Mark Hawkes). Still there on 16.9 (Mark Hawkes)
(3-5) Tarragona 3 juveniles were seen in ricefields near Mitjorn area, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona, on 21.9 (David Bigas).
(6) Tarragona A juvenile bird was found at grassfields near Migjorn, Delta de l'Ebre on 24.9 morning (Ricard Gutiérrez). See a thumbnail here. Perhaps this bird or another was relocated at c.1 km distance later in the morning (Cristian Jensen/Audouin Birding Tours).
(7) Tarragona A juvenile was found on 21.9 at marjal de Sollana, P.N de l'Albufera de València, València (Toni Alcocer). According to facial pattern is a different bird from (1).

(8) Sevilla A juvenile was found on 25.9 at  paraje de Aguas Rubias, Parque Nacional de Doñana, Huelva (Carlos Gutiérrez Expósito).

(9) Valencia There was an adult female at Tancat de la Ratlla, PN Albufera de València, València on 27.9 (Bosco Dies). On 28.9 it was seen 1 km distant, at arrosar de La Foia, Sollana (Bosco Dies).

Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC for their knowledge if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind which needs a form to be sent.Photos could be cropped for editorial reasons.Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with anew icon.
