(1) Cádiz. Another Wilson's following late July 2011 obsevations was seen while seawatching off Tarifa on 3.8 (Gilles Biver). See a photo below

(2-61) Cádiz. At least 60 individuals were seen from Aroha Rají saliing boat on 6.8 off Tarifa, Cádiz (Fernando Guerrero, José Antonio López, Diego, Jenifer, José Ramón Martín, Patricia Medina y Rafa Romero).

(62-152) Cádiz. At least 150 individuals were counted on 7.8.2011 off Tarifa, Cádiz, with Orcas (Orcinus orca) (José Antonio López, Jordi Vázquez, Diego Llorente, Jennifer Mompart, Fernando Guerrero, Pedro Silos, María Llorente y Álvaro Díaz). Ed.comment. As 60 were counted the previous day and given the possibility they were partially the same only 90 are added to the global count of this month. On 8.8 this 'group' was seen again and there were from 70 to perhaps a few hundreds (Javier Elorriaga / Fundación Migres). See a photo-collage below (J.Elorriaga).

At least 43 were seen off Tarifa, Cádiz, on 12.8 (Javier Elorriaga) and 25+ on 15.8, perhaps up to 50 (Rafa García, Javi Elorriaga, Fernando del Valle, Juan Russo, JA Sencianes, JM Méndez & Paco Chiclana).See a thumbnail from 15.8 here (Fernando del Valle) and another from the same day too (Rafa García). Same group of c.50 birds (considered here to be 43 for statistical purposes, ed.comment) was recorded on 16.8 too (Susan Devereaux and family). On 21.8 there were up to 41 ind. Off Tarifa, Cádiz (Jus Pérez, Oscar Llama y Javier Elorriaga).

(196-197) Bizkaia. 2 ind. were seen 15 nm off Matxitxako, Bizkaia, Euskadi on 27.8 (Gorka Ocio et al)

(198) Cádiz. One individual was seen from Turmares vessel at Straits of Gibraltar on 30.8 (Thomas van der Es)

(199-279) A Coruña. Eighty birds were counted in a pelagic seawatch off Roncudo point, off Ponteceso, A Coruña, on 28.8 (Daniel lópez Velasco, Albert Cama, Pablo Gutierrez, Pablo Pita, Juan Matute, José Portillo, Guillermo Rodríguez, Juan Sagardia et al). Amazingly it was seen again stopped on a rock with Cormorants on 16.8 (Antonio Sandoval), see a thumbnail here, when it was also seen flying into the ria do Barqueiro, (also called ría do Vicedo) in the east side of Estaca de Bares. (2) Cádiz. There was an individual over Algarrobo bird observatory, Algeciras, Cádiz on 25.8 (Fundación Migres)

(1) Cádiz On 15.8 an individual was seen and photographed flying over A226 road, Benalup, over the junction Autovia Jerez - Algeciras (Stephen Daly /Andalucian Bird Guides & Tim Eaton-Walker). See a photo below and thumbnails here.
Other observers suggest this might well be an Steppe Buzzard (Buteo buteo vulpinus) given structure amongst other features. To further complicate the subject, even hybridisation between Long-legged and Common Buzzards has been described in the area (ed. comment).

(1) Valencia On 9.8 there was a bird together with a Lesser Yellowlegs (see below) at partida del Rec del Moll, Marjal de Sollana, Parc Natural de l'Albufera de València, València (Bosco Dies, Toni Alcocer). Read Birding Albufera for more details and other site sightings. The bird was seen also later the same day (S. Klasan, S. Koschkar, R. Dittrich, A. Dittrich, J. Antonio Barba). The bird remained on 10.8 evening (Steve Klasan, Steffen Koschkar & Toni Alcocer) and 11.8 morning (S.Klasan, S. Koschkar, C. Miersch).

(2) Asturies From 23-24.8 a juvenile remained at desembocadura del río Espasa, Caravia, Asturies (Bernardo Busto). See a photo below (B.Busto). 1st juvenile of the season. It was relocated again on 27.8 morning (Pablo Fernández). See a stunning photo gallery of this individual here.

(1) Valencia On 9.8 there was a bird together with a Pectoral Sandpiper (see above) at partida del Rec del Moll, Marjal de Sollana, Parc Natural de l'Albufera de València, València (Bosco Dies, Toni Alcocer). (1) Tarragona. The adult at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona was still there on 3.8 (Jordi Martí-Aledo) and on 7.8 (Jordi Martí-Aledo). Still present on 8.8 morning (Jordi Martí-Aledo, David Bigas) and evening, when photographed (Ricard Gutiérrez). See a thumbnail here. On 9.8 it remained there and was joined by a juvenile, see below (Carles Domingo, Jordi Marti-Aledo).Still present on 16-17-18.8 (Jordi Martí-Aledo).

(2) Tarragona. A juvenile joined the adult at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona on 9.8 (Carles Domingo, Jordi Marti-Aledo).

(3) Murcia. A juvenile was seen at Salinas de San pedro del Pinatar, within the Encañizada area, close to the N edge of la Manga del Mar Menor, on 12.8 (Raúl Bastida).

(4) Tarragona. A 2nd adult joined bird (1) at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona on 16- 18.8 (Jordi Marti-Aledo).

(5) Tarragona. A 4th bird, another adult, joined bird (1) and (4) at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona on 21.8 (Jordi Marti-Aledo). On 22.8 ony one adult of all (1),(4) and (5) remained (Jordi Martí-Aledo; Ricard Gutiérrez). One adult was still at Punta de la Banya on 28.8 (Jordi Martí-Aledo)

(6) Ciudad Real. On 28.8 one individual was seen at Laguna de la Veguilla, Alcázar de San Juan, Ciudad Real (Pedro Bustamante; Mª José Valencia).

(8-191) A Coruña. A staggering count of 183 Long-tailed Skuas was obtained on 26.8. off Estaca de Bares, A Coruña (Antonio Sandoval,Pablo Gutiérrez,David Martínez Lago,Alfonso Valderas,Gonzalo Lage,Albert Cama,Dani López Velasco,Guillermo Rodríguez,Jesús Risueño,Bob Swan,Dave McAdams,Juan Sagardía,Juan Matute,Jose Portillo y Ricardo Hevia). (192-193) Cantabria. Two birds were seen from Cabo Mayor, Cantabria, on 27.8 (Alejandro García-Herrera).

Presumably this individual remained the following day when two more were seen too, see a thumbnail here (Rafael García). One of the ringed adults in both legs, perhaps this or one of the (2-3) stayed there on 5.8 (Jordi Vázquez y Rafael García). Possibly this bird or another with same ring combination was still there on 13.8 with another equally ringed bird (no. 2 perhaps) (Pablo Barrena, Manuel Jiménez y Rafael García)

(2-3) Cádiz Two new adults, one ringed in both legs, another unringed, joined bird (1) at Salina de la Tapa, El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz on 3.8 (Rafael García Costales). On 13.8 two adults ringed in both legs were seen there too, one of them might be one of these birds, the other presumed to be bird (1) above (Pablo Barrena, Manuel Jiménez y Rafael García), Either this (2) or (1) remained on 15.8 too (Rafael García)

(4) Cádiz Another adult, this with only one ring in the left tarsus joined bird (1) at Salina de la Tapa, El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz on 5.8 (Jordi Vázquez & Rafael García).
