Zamora. There were 3 individuals near Tapioles road, Villafáfila the 1st days of February (Jose Miguel San Román, Juan José Orduña). 5 were seen at Villafáfila on 12.2, while 3 remained on 13.2 (Juan Sagardía)

(4) Sevilla. There was one at Los Madrigales, Doñana, Sevilla on 6.2 (Rafa Romero). See a photo below and a thumbnail here.

(1) Cádiz There was a bird at Véjer de la Frontera, Cádiz, on 18.2 (Stephen Daly). See two photos below and a thumbnail here plus a discussion on this individual in Stephen's blog here. Interestingly, the id of these individuals has still room for further investigation. E.g. come comments on the bird recall the difficulty in telling the species from Steppe Buzzard (B.b.vulpinus): 'It looks much darker rufous than the cirtensis I've seen and with a suggestion of a B. buteo type pale breast band. Immature cirtensis tend to have a series of narrow bands, without a predominant dark subterminal one' (E.F.J.Garcia).

(6-7) Asturies. There were 2 individuals at Avilés, Asturies on 6.2. One was the 4th winter present previously in the area plus another was a 1w that had been seen a week before at San Andrés reservoir (César Álvarez Laó). See a thumbnail here. The 1w was still at ensenada de Llodero, Zeluán, ría de Avilés, on 8.2 (Luis Mario Arce)

(8-11) Girona. There were 4 birds at Solius dump, Girona, on 5.2 (two) and 6.2 (two more, one Polish bird PDKZ, Carlos Álvarez Cros). See thumbnails here.

(12) Bizkaia. On 7.2 one 1w was found at Getxo cruiser harbour, El Abra, Santurtzi, Bizkaia (Gorka Ocio).

(13) A Coruña There was a 1w at La Concha beach, Cariño, A Coruña on 9.2 (Ricardo Hevia).

(20) Barcelona. There was a 1w at ca l'Arana beach, delta del Llobregat, Barcelona (F. López, M. Cabau). Still there on 23.2 (F.Lòpez)

(21) A Coruña There was a 1w at Alba beach, Arteixo, A Coruña found on 20.2 (Xabier Varela).See two thumbnails here.

From March 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records committees. See here those rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex, Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included from 2006.



Recent reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC for their knowledge if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind which needs a form to be sent.Photos could be cropped for editorial reasons.Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with anew icon.
