Mediterranean Shearwater Puffinus yelkouan. Over 200 birds were seen on passage off Cap de Creus (Creus cape), Girona on 9.04. The same day over 800 Balearic Shearwaters P.mauretanicus were noted (Joan Ventura & Ponç Feliu). Regular all the omth off Cap de Creus (extreme NE Girona). One bird off Llobregat Delta, Barcelona, on 30.4 (R.Gutiérrez)

Pied-billed Grebe* Podylimbus podiceps. The 1st for mainland Spain featured the previous month, an adult summer,  was still at Grajera reservoir, La Rioja, on 13.04 (J. L. Copete, Rafa Armada & JaneNethercote).

Great White Egret Egretta alba. A bird was at Marjal del Moro, Sagunt, València, on 12.4. It is probably the same bird found on late march (Marcial Yuste). Interestingly, at Arrocampo, Extremadura, a pair of birds in breeding plumage entered a reedbed where other herons were already breeding ... (Javier Briz). At Brazo del Este, Sevilla, there were 3 birds on 7.4 (Paco Chiclana). Another bird in winter plumage at Laguna de Palancosa, Navalmoral de la Mata, Cáceres on 5.4 (Javier Briz). On 17.04, a bird was seen at Remolar-Filipines reserve, Llobregat Delta, Barcelona (Ferran López). 35 birds were counted in Ere Delta, Tarragona, the 1st half of the month (David Bigas/PNDE). Two were at Emb. de Sierra Brava, Extremadura on 8.04 and 2+ at Lucio del Lobo, Doñana on 14.04 (John Muddeman) plus 3 at Brazo del Este, Sevilla on 13.04 (Andreas Winnem et al).

Glossy Ibis Plegadis falcinellus.  At Aiguamolls de l'Empordà NP, the 3 birds seen last month were there on 1.4 (Jordi Martí) Four birds were at Parque Nacional de las Tablas de Daimiel, Ciudad Real on 5.4 (pers.com. to Daniel López Huertas) 'Tens of breeding birds' were near Cerrado Garrido area, Doñana, Huelva, on 5-7.04 (José Luís Valiña). An adult was at El Vadancho, La Mancha area, C Spain, from 12-21.04 (Juan Carlos Marín). On 14.04  over 400 birds (!!!) at Centro de Interpretación José Antonio Valverde, Doñana (Fernando Ibáñez/EBD). The same day, 5 were at Brazo del Este, Sevilla (Andreas Winnem et al)

Pink-backed Pelican* Pelecanus rufescens. An adult was at Embalse de Celemin ,close to Benalupe, Cádiz, on 03.04 (Niclas Winqvist).

Lesser Flamingo* Phoenicopterus minor. A bird was at Laguna grande de Villacañas, Toledo, on 8.4 (Juan Carlos Marín), probably the same bird seen on 29.3. It moved to laguna de Manjavacas, where it was with 148 P.ruber on 12.13.04. Back to Villacañas on 19-21.04 and aseen at Manjavacas on 29.4 (Juan Carlos Marín).

Mute Swan* Cygnus olor. Two birds were at Laguna de Medina, Cádiz on 13.04 (unknown origin)(Luis Miguel Pérez Matallana) and still there on 15.04 (John Muddeman). Two birds at Salinas de Roquetas de Mar, Almería, on 30.4 (Delfín González).

Brent Goose Branta bernicla. Mediterranean record: a bird at Fangar bay, Ebro delta, on 28-29.4 (David Bigas).

Egyptian Goose* Alopochen aegyptiacus. Three free-flying looking-wild (or 'C' population) birds were (as almost everything interesting this month) at PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà (Jordi Martí) still there on 26.04 (Jaume Ros)

Ruddy Shelduck* Tadorna ferruginea. A ringed individual was at Ria de Foz, Lugo, where arrived the day before (Luis José Salaverri Leiras). 2 birds were seen at Páramo en Bretocino, Zamora, on 27.04 (Juan Carlos Milán).

American Black Duck* Anas rubipres. The long-stayer individual from the winter was still at Origueira, Galicia (at ensenada 
de Mera) on 28.4 (José Miguel Alonso Pumar)

Marbled Teal Marmaronetta angustirostris. In the extreme north limit of its distribution range, a pair was seen at Marjal del Moro (Moro marsh), Sagunt, València, on 07.04 (Marcial Yuste). But a single male was seen on 14.04 (Marcial Yuste).Two birds were at Brazo del Este, Sevilla, on 14.04 (Andreas Winnem et al). On 21.04, two were at El Vadancho, Quero,Toledo (Juan Carlos Marín).

Ring-necked Duck* Aythya collaris.  A female was at Laguna de la Nava, Palencia from 4.04.01 to 10.04 at least(Enrique Gómez Crespo). 

Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca. The male found on late March was still at Marjal del Moro, Sagunt, València, on 03.04. But a pair was noted on 10-14.04 (Marcial Yuste). 

Scaup Aythya marila. A male was at Cecebre reservoir, Abegondo, Galicia on 1.4 (Antonio Sandoval)

Lesser Scaup Aythya affinis. A female was seen at embalse de Rosadoiro, Arteixo, A Coruña on 5.4. It was in company of many Tufted Ducks A.fuligula (Amadeo Pombo). It remained at Rosadoiro, A Courña, on 11.04 (Miguel Conde)

Red-footed falcon Falco vespertinus. One or more individuals were seen from mid-month around Aiguamolls de l'Empordà (15.4, Xavi Escobar) or others (e.g Eduard Gonzalez, Jordi Martí, Xavier Larruy). Last seen a male on 25.04 at the same place (X.Larruy)

Little Crake Porzana parva. Two females were at El Matà, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona, on 01.01 (Pierre-Andre Crochet). A male was at Remolar-Filipines reserve, Llobregat Delta, Barcelona, on 03.04 (F.Xavier Santaeufemia).A female was at estany d'Europa, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona, on 7.04 (Xavier Larruy, Jordi Jofre).At Encanyissada lagoon, Ebro Dxelta, Tarragona, one bird was seen on 11.04 (Thomas Nilsen, John F. Karlsen, Geir F. Karlsen). On 18.4, three birds (2 males,one females) seen at Tordera river mouth ,Barcelona/Girona limit (Enric Badosa).  2 females were seen at estany Europa, Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, on 25/04 (Enríque Gómez, Jordi Martí)

Baillon's Crake Porzana pusilla. A bird singing at Filipines marsh, Llobregat Delta, Barcelona the night of 30.4 was the sole record of this species in the last years (R.Gutiérrez, F.López, X.Larruy).

Crested Coot Fulica cristata. We continue recording all sightings of this scarce species. In April, a bird was seen on 13.04 Tern close to Cerrado Garrido information center in Doñana (Anders Mæland, Håkon Meyer, Bent Jacobsen and Andreas Winnem). The same team recorded 14 birds at laguna de Medina, Cádiz, on 14.04. And 8 adults were seen at Laguna de Medina too on 15.04 (Thomas Nilsen, John F. Karlsen, Geir F. Karlsen)

Cream-Coloured Courser* Cursorius cursor. Two birds were detected at Guadalhorce river mouth beach, Málaga, on 11.04 (Blás López). This bird stayed only 15-20 minutes (according to information given to A. Paterson). Another near Sotogrande, between Sotogrande and Alcadaisa .. on the beach track about 0.5km from the lighthouse and just 50 metres from a small river (Rob Rackliffe) it stayed until 20.4. And two more were at río Jara, Tarifa, Cádiz, on 14.4 (Antonio Román Muñoz). The largest-ever influx to Spain. 

American Golden Plover* Pluvialis dominica. A bird was seen at Matà ricefields, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona, on 17.4.01 (Jordi Martí). Found on 16.04 and last seen on 22.04 (R.Armada, J.L. Copete). See the photos and ID discussion of this bird

Great Snipe* Gallinago media. A bird was seen and video-taped on 12.04 at Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park, Girona (Jordi Martí, Teresa Montràs).

Greater Yellowlegs* Tringa melanoleuca. The bird seen last autumn-winter was still at Ria de Ortigueira, A Coruña, Galicia on 7.4 (Pablo Gutiérrez). A record of long-staying.

Marsh Sandpiper Tringa stagnatilis. A summer-plumaged bird was there on 2.4 and it was probably the same bird seen on late march (Marcial Yuste). Two birds were at estany d'Europa, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona, on 7.04 (Xavier Larruy, Jordi Jofre). On 12.04 there were 3 at the same place and another at El Matà fields, also at Aiguamolls (X.Larruy, D.Burgas, J.Becarés). On 13.04 there were two at Baix Empordà marshes, L'Estartit - Torroella de Montgrí - Pals, Girona (D. Burgas, X. Larruy, J. Bécares y A.Burgas). A bird was at Remolar-Filipines reserve, Llobregat delta, Barcelona, on 14.04 (Ferran López). One or two birds were in front of El Rocío's SEO hide, Doñana, on 3-4.04 (Tom Backlund) and  5-7.04 (José Luís Valiña) but 3+ from 12-14.04 (John Muddeman;Andreas Winnem) and 17.4 (Thomas Nilsen, John F. Karlsen, Geir F. Karlsen) and 1 additional bird in
a pool somewhere between Villamanrique and Cerrado Garrido, Sevilla the same day (A.Winnem et al ). Also in the South, a bird was at Los Palacios, Sevilla, on 12.04 (Paco Chiclana).More birds: 4-5 at Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona, on 18.04 (J.Martí,R.Gutiérrez, F.López,A.Ramal,R.Armada, J.L. Copete,O.Clarabuch). Another at Llobregat Delta in 19.04 (R.Gutiérrez ,A.Ramal) and two on 10.04 (F.X.Santaeufemia). Another at Azud de Riolobos, Salamanca, also on 18.04 (Miguel A. Rouco).Two birds were at Caño de la Vera -Los Palacios, Sevilla, on 22.04 (Paco Chiclana).5 ind. at estanys del Matà, Aiguamolls, on 26.04 (Enrique Gomez, Jordi Martí). On 21.04, a bird was at El Vadancho, Quero,Toledo (Juan Carlos Marín).

Glaucous Gull* Larus hyperboreus. At Lago de Valdoviño, Galicia, there was a 1st winter on 3.4 (Pablo Gutiérrez). At the same place, a 3rd winter/summer was found on 7.04 (Antonio Gutiérrez). Two 2nd calendar birds were at playa de Espasa, Llastres/Colunga, Asturies, on 10.04 (Clemente Álvarez Usátegui). A bird was at R.N. de las Marismas de Santoña y Noja, Cantabria, on 29.4 (Juan José Aja)

Ring-billed Gull* Larus delawarensis. At playa de Cariño, A Coruña, a 2nd winter bird was present on 01.04 (Edmundo Fraga y Antonio Gutierrez).  An adult first seen in January was still at Ria de Ferrol on 7.4 (Pablo Gutiérrez). A 1st summer was at El Abra,Bilbao on 10.04 (Gorka Ocio, Juan G. Astigarraga). On 19.04, a 1st summer at Parque Isabel la Católica,Gijón (Delfín González). A first summer was at Marismas Blancas, El Astillero, Cantabria, on 27.04 (Ramon Balbás). On 17.4 an adult was at Playa de Serantes, Tapia de Casariego, Asturies (Gilberto S. Jardón)

Caspian tern Sterna caspia. Five birds were at Rio Guadalquivir, Sevilla on 1.4 (Alfonso Barragan/GOSUR) and 3 were at  Sanlucar Barrameda the same day (Tom Backlund). A migrant was seen on passage off Cap de Creus (Creus cape), Girona on 9.04 (Joan Ventura & Ponç Feliu). Two birds were seen at Ricarda lagoon mouth, Llobregat Delta, Barcelona, on 2.04 (Xavier Larruy). On 12.04, four birds were at estany d'Europa, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (Xavier Larruy, Juan Becarés, Daniel Burgas), one the following day (Neus Gallardo, Jordi Clavell). Different birds in Andalusia:  3 in front of SEO's El Rocio hide on 13.04 , 2 at Playa de los Lances, Tarifa on 16 and on 17, 2 at Zahara de los Atunes, 1 at Cabo de Trafalgar and 1 at marismas de Barbate (John Muddeman).A bird was at Francolí river mouth on 22.04 (Albert Cama,Pere Josa, Joan Ferrer). On 14.4, one was at Salinas de Bonanza, Cádiz (Andreas Winnem et al). On 13,4, 1 was NE of Cabo de Gata, Almeria (Thomas Nilsen,John F. Karlsen, Geir F. Karlsen).

White-winged Black Tern Chlydonias leucopterus. First record for the coutry this migration: 1 2y White-winged Black Tern close to Cerrado Garrido information center in Doñana on 13.04 (Anders Mæland, Håkon Meyer, Bent Jacobsen and Andreas Winnem). An adult at Remolar-Filipines reserve, Llobregat Delta, Barcelona, on 30.4 (X.Larruy, F.López, R.Gutiérrez. F.X. Santaeufemia).

Red-throated pipit Anthus cervinus. Strong passage at Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona, on 18.04: +10 birds seen at matà rice-fields and Europa lagoon (J.Martí,R.Gutiérrez, F.López,A.Ramal,R.Armada, J.L. Copete,O.Clarabuch). A single bird at Doñana on 14.04 (John Muddeman) Still 2 birds at Aiguamolls on 24.04 (Xavier Larruy) and 5 ind. at estany de Vilaüt on 25.04 (E.Gómez, Jordi Martí). On 11.04 a bird was at Ebro delta (Thomas Nilsen,John F. Karlsen, Geir F. Karlsen).

Siberian Stonechat* Saxicola torquata maura/stejnegeri. A male was found at Cap de Creus, Girona, on 9.04 (Joan Ventura, Ponç Feliu). Latest accepted record from Catalonia is from 30-31.03.1998 (download1998 rarities report here).

Paddyfield Warbler* Acrocephalus agricola. A bird was trapped and ringed on 9.04 at Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park, Girona (Gabriel Gargallo/GCA). This species is inreasingly seen in the NE. In Catalonia, since 1999 there have been  5  A.paludicola records and  3 of  A.agricola. In turn, since  1985, there were + 29 paludicola records in Catalonia and only 5 agricola ones .(Jordi Clavell).

Snow Bunting Plectrophenax nivalis. A male was at marismas and dunes of Baldaio, Carballo, Galicia on 01.04 (Antonio Sandoval).
