Slavonian Grebe*Podiceps auritus. The 7 birds seen off Santoña marshes, Cantabria, on 1.2 were still there on 3.3 (Rubén "Humeru") . Another at playa de la Bola, El Abra, Getxo, Bizkaia on 6.3 was already moulting into summer pliumage and was last seen on 16.3(Gorka Ocio)

Pied-Billed Grebe* Podilymbus podiceps. Second record for Spain, first for the mainland after a bird in Tenerife, Canaries in January 1991: the bird found on 19.2 at pantano de La Grajera, Logroño, La Rioja was still there on 7.3 (Delfín González).

Great White Egret Egretta alba. In Catalonia, a bird was at Llobregat Delta NR on 2.3 (F.López). Another was at Fluvia river at Bascara, Girona, on 4.3 (Aleix Comas). A bird was at Marjal del Moro, Sagunt, València, on 23.3 (Marcial Yuste). And 6 were on Brazo del Este, Sevilla, on 22.3 (Francisco Chiclana).

Marabou* Leptoptilos crumeniferus. Some, if not all, the recent sightings, including one as far N as Pobla de Segur, Lleida, by early March (Manel Pomarol) could refer to an escape of 6 birds from Reserva Natural del Castillo de las Guardas ,Sevilla "a few months ago" (Francisco José Pascual). The Lleida bird has moved S to Vallfogona de Balaguer, where present at least on 26.3 (Agents Forestals de la Noguera / DMA).

Glossy Ibis Plegadis falcinellus. A party of 15 was present in Aiguamolls de l'Empordà NP: 3 birds were from 23.2 to 31.3 (Jordi Martí) and 12 more were on c.1-2.3 (Teresa Montràs). 30 birds were at Brazo del Este, Sevilla, on 22.3 (Francisco Chiclana). And 75 birds were at La Rocina, Doñana, on 23.3 (David Moreno).On 29.3, a bird was seen at Tablas de Daimiel NP, Ciuidad Real, where rare (Dani L.Huertas, Toni Hernández).

Lesser Flamingo* Phoenicopterus minor. A bird was at Laguna grande de Villacañas, Toledo, on 29.3 (Manolo, pers com. by Juan Carlos Marín).

Bar-headed Goose* Anser indicus.  On 9.3  a bird was seen at  ría de La Villa, Asturies (Manuel E. Carballal).

Brent Goose Branta bernicla. At marisma de Baldaio, Carballo, A Coruña, two birds were seen on 4.3 (Antonio Sandoval). A 1st winter bird was at Hondo de Amorós, Alicante, from 12. 3 (Antonio Jacobo Ramos Sánchez) to 17.3 (Carlos Gutiérrez Expósito).

Egyptian Goose* Alopochen aegyptiacus. Two unknown-origin birds were at Arrocampo, Almaraz, Cáceres on 3.3 (Javier Briz)

Ruddy Shelduck Tadorna ferruginea. A non-breeding adult  was briefly seen on 4.3. at Marisma do Bao, Ogrobe (O Grove), Galiza (Galicia) (SEO/Ponte-Vedra ornithological group). An adult in non-breeding plumage was observed on 17.3 at Esteiro do Úmia (River Úmia mouth), Cambados, Galiza (Galicia). Surely, this bird was the same individual that was located at the nearby Bao's marshes on 4.3 (Jorge -Xurxo- Pinheiro). In the Canaries, 5 were  in the barranco below Embalse de Molinos, Fuerteventura on 4.3 (Harry Lehto). A female was seen at Reserva Natural de ses Salines, Eivissa (Ibiza), Illes Balears on 10.3 (Alberto García).

Mandarin duck Aix galericulata. On 3.3, a drake was seen among Mallards Anas platyrhynchos at Traba lagoon (Lagoa de Traba), Laje (Laxe), Galiza (Galicia). This individual is probably a long-staying bird (SEO/Salamanca ornithological group; Jorge (Xurxo) Pinheiro Álvarez; Cosme Damiám Romai Cousido).

American Wigeon* Anas americana. A male was seen at laguna de Boada de Campos, Palencia on 4.3 (Carlos Gutiérrez Expósito). It was still there on 14.3 (Enrique Gómez).

American Black Duck* Anas rubipres. The Ortigueira bird See previous months) was seen again on 4.3 (Pablo Gutiérrez). Was this individual the same reported in february from laguna de Louro, Muros? or perhaps that was another?.A bird was at Ria de Foz, Lugo, on 31.3 (Luis José Salaverri). Again not clear if one of the overwintering birds or another.

Blue Winged Teal* Anas discors. A male was at Cañada de Las Norias, Almería on 17.3 (Carlos Gutiérrez Expósito)

Marbled duck Marmaronetta angustirostris. Four birds (2 pairs) were present at barranco de los molinos reservoir, Fuerteventura by 4.3 (Richard Åkesson; Harry Lehto).

Ring-necked Duck* Aythya collaris.  The previously featured drake was still at Rouxique gravel pits, Sao Genjo (Sanxenxo), Galiza (Galicia) on 4.3. This bird was observed displaying (courtship) to female Tufted Duck Aythya fuligula (SEO/Salamanca ornithological group; Jorge (Xurxo) Pinheiro; Cosme Damiám Romai). On 18.3  it was still there next to 4 Tufted Ducks (Jorge (Xurxo) Pinheiro). 

Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca. Singles were at El Hondo de Elche, Alicante - a male - on 16.3 and Cañada de Las Norias, Almería, -a female- on 17.3 (Carlos Gutiérrez Expósito) A male was at Marjal del Moro, Sagunt, València, on 23-30.3 (Marcial Yuste). On 24.3, a female was at laguna chica de Puebla
de Beleña,Guadalajara (Santiago Villa).

Scaup Aythya marila. Two birds in Galicia early the month: a female at Cecebre reservoir (Abegondo) on 3.3 and another at
Sada beach, A Coruña also on 3.3 (Antonio Sandoval). At Pantano de Selga De Ordás, León there continue the 7 individuals (5 females and  2 males) seen in autumn 2000 and last recorded on 11.3 (Aurea Acebes, Jorge Falagán, Nacho Rodriguez, Javier Rodrigez y Carlos Zumalacárregui). One drake was observed on 17.3 at Esteiro do Úmia (River Umia mouth), Cambados, Galiza (Galicia) (Jorge (Xurxo) Pinheiro).

Lesser Scaup Aythya affinis. 2 females continue at Roquito del Fraile area, Tenerife, Canary Islands (Harry Lehto)

King Eider Somateria spectabilis. The 1st winter male in Laje (Laxe), Galiza (Galicia) is observed again on 3.3, near coastal rocks and close to the Laje's beach. This bird is now moulting into 1st summer plumage (SEO/Salamanca ornithological group; Jorge (Xurxo) Pinheiro Álvarez; Cosme Damiám Romai Cousido).

Lanner Falcon* Falco biarmicus. A bird was seen flying over Estanys d'Europa, Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park, Girona, on 25.3 (Sergi Sales, Marc Pérez)

Crested Coot Fulica cristata. Three birds, two of them neck-banded, were at Lucio del Lobo, Doñana National Park, on 24.3 (Francisco Chiclana).

Kittlitz's Plover* Charadrius pecuarius. First for Spain and SE Europe!. An adult male was found at laguna redondilla, Villacañas, on 12.3 (Carlos Alberto Torralvo). It was relocated on 17.3 at laguna larga de Villacañas, Toledo. It was seen at close range and photograhed (Juan Carlos Martín, Juan Enrique, Ignacio Torres).

Pectoral Sandpiper* Calidris melanotos. A bird was seen at Marjal del Moro, Sagunt, València, on 20.3 (Marcial Yuste), only the 2nd for that area.

Greater Yellowlegs* Tringa melanoleuca. The bird seen last autumn-winter was relocated again at Ria de Ortigueira, A Coruña, Galicia on 11.3 (Pablo Gutiérrez).  Still there on 25.3 (Pablo Gutiérrez).

Marsh Sandpiper Tringa stagnatilis. On 12.3, two winter-plumaged birds were seen at Marjal del Moro (Moro marsh), Sagunt, València (Marcial Yuste).  Another summer-plumaged bird was there from 26-30.3 (Marcial Yuste). Up to 10 birds were at Aiguamolls de l'Empordà NP: 8 from 8.3 and three more from last week of march (Jordi Martí).

Glaucous Gull* Larus hyperboreus. At playa de Tregadín(Noja marshes), Cantabria, there was one bird on 3.3 (Rubén "Humeru")
.Perhaps the same bird was at Marismas de Santoña, Cantabria on 9.3 (Juanjo Aja)

American Herring Gull* Larus argentatus smithsonianus. A 1st winter bird was at Ria do Burgo, A Coruña, on 8.3 (Antonio Sandoval).

Ring-billed Gull* Larus delawarensis. A 1st 'summer' was seen at playa de Santa Cruz, A Coruña, Galicia on 1.3 (Delfín González) and was relocated at Mera, 4 km N of the former location,  on 21.3 (Delfín González). At Ria do Burgo it continued the same individual reported in previous months on 8.3 (Antonio Sandoval). Two birds, an adult and a 1st winter were at at playa de la Bola, El Abra, Getxo, Bizkaia on 6.3  (Gorka Ocio). This 1st winter, with a hook in its bill was last seen on 17.3. A bird seen in late january at ria de Ferrol, Galicia, was still there on 15.3 (Pablo Gutiérrez).

Richards Pipit* Anthus richardi . A bird was seen at Europa lagoon, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà on 5.3 (Jordi Martí)

Pied Wagtail Motacilla (alba) yarrellii. In Catalonia, where extremely rare, seven (!!!!!) birds were seen altogether at Matà ricefields, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona on 5.3 (Jordi Martí)

Desert Warbler Sylvia nana. 2nd for the Canaries and Spain. One bird was seen very clearly on 16.2 south at Caleta de Fuste 
(Castillo), Fuerteventura in the "matorral", 10 metres from a incomplete new building under a hard strong NO - wind (Richard Åkesson).
