Brown Booby Sula leucogaster (1)
(1) Huelva. A bird was seen from Juan Carlos I pier, Huelva, on 22.7 (Fernando del Valle, Mario Martín,
Paco Chiclana).
Western Reef Egret Egretta gularis (1)
(1) Álava / Araba. A dark individual gularis was seen at Ulibarri-Gamboa reservoir on 1.7 (Pako Zufiaur). See two photos below (P.Zufiaur).

Presumed
Hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret Egretta gularis x garzetta (1,2)
(1) Tarragona. The usual presumed hybrid from Tancada saltpans was seen on 8.7 afternoon on the base of Trabucador istmus, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Ricard Gutiérrez). See two photos below and two thumbnails here. The bird was seen again on 23.7 (Gerard Dalmau, Elisabet Tetas).

(2) Cádiz. There was a bird within the heronry of Tarelo lagoon, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz, on 1.7 (Paco Chiclana). This bird was seen again on 19.7 (José Luis Arroyo, Iván Sanmartín). See a photo below (J.L.Arroyo).

Rüppell's Vulture Gyps rueppellii (1)
(1) Cádiz. One bird was seen and photographed at Cazalla, Tarifa, on 30.7 (Blanca Pérez/Fundación Migres).See a photo below (B.Pérez)

Pectoral Sandpiper Calidris melanotos (1)
(1) València One adult was seen and photographed at Marjal de Sollana, PN Albufera de València on 24.7 (Toni Alcocer). The bird remained there on 25.7 (Gabi Llorens, Toni Alcocer). See a photo below and two thumbnails here. The first of the autumn.

Red-necked
Phalarope* Phalaropus lobatus (1)
(1) Valencia On 3.7 an adult female was found at Tancat de Milia, Sollana, P.N Albufera de València (Dàniel Hegedüs, Bosco Díes i Vicente Llorens). Photographed the following day (Toni Alcocer), the bird remained in the area at leastg until 7.7 (Gabi Llorens i Juan Antonio García, Toni Alcocer). See two photos below (T.Alcocer). This bird was still present in the same area on 10.7 (Jose Ramon Martin Zaforas,
Gabi Llorens) and 11.7 (Vicente Esteller).

Long-tailed Skua Stercorarius longicaudus (1)
(1) A Coruña. One adult was seen on migration from Estaca de Bares, A Coruña, on 23.7 (Antonio Sandoval). The first for the season.

Royal Tern Sterna maxima (1,2)
(1) Huelva. An albidorsalis winter plumaged bird was seen at Juan Carlos I pier, Huelva on 25.7 close to a Lesser-Crested Tern (Carlos Gutiérrez Expósito).
(2) Huelva . A 2nd bird had been photographed on 20.7 (Jose Gomez Aparicio) but had not been detected until it had been seen again and through the photos. Despite compared size with Sandwich Tern and bill size(see thumbnail here) it looks quite dark mantled and some authors consider it's a Lesser-Crested (ed. comment).

Lesser Crested Tern Sterna bengalensis (1-2,3,4-5,6,7,8-9)
(1-2) Cádiz. On 7.7, two birds were seen at playa de Levante, Puerto de Santa María, close to río San Pedro mouth (Rafael García Costales). See a photo below and a thumbnail here. One bird was seen on 8.7 in the same area (Rafael García)

(3) Cádiz. One was seen at Los Lances beach, Cádiz, on 8.7 (Javier Elorriaga). This or another bird was at the same place on 13.7 (Javier Elorriaga).
(4-5) Huelva. Two birds were seen with a Roseate Tern and other terns at punta de Malandar, playa de Doñana, Huelva on 16.7 (Carlos Urdiales Alonso y Jose Gomez Aparicio).
(6) Cádiz. There was an adult at La Jara beach, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz, on 5.7 (Paco Chiclana). See a photo below.

(7) Huelva. There was a bird at Odiel marshes on 1.7 (José Antonio Sencianes). See a thumbnail here.
(8-9) Huelva. Two birds were at Juan Carlos I pier, Huelva on 20.7 (José Gomez Aparicio). One of those (or another) was seen at the same site on 25.7 (Carlos Gutiérrez Expósito).

Orange billed-tern Sterna sp. c.f. elegans type (1)
(1) Huelva. The bird seen last month at Valencia and PVC ringed with a yellow ring was seen at Juan Carlos I pier, Odiel marshes, Huelva possibly with an unmarked juvenile on 25.7 (Alberto Savijn).This bird was seen again on 26.7 at the same site (Mario Martín, Fernando del Valle, Paco Chiclana, see a photo below) and it has bred in Valencia this year paired to a Sandwich tern producing one juvenile and it is the same seen at Huelva (J.I.Dies)

Roseate Tern Sterna dougallii (1,2,3,4,5,6-7,8.9,10)
(1) Cádiz. One unringed adult was seen at Cádiz bay on 8.7 (Rafael García Costales)
(2) Huelva. One 1st summer to 2nd winter moulting and ringed bird was seen on 8.7 at Doñana beach, Huelva (Carlos Gutiérrez Expósito).
(3) Huelva. One bird was seen with two Lesser-Cresteds and other terns at punta de Malandar, playa de Doñana, Huelva on 13.7 (Carlos Urdiales) and -perhaps the same bird or another- on 16.7 (Carlos Urdiales Alonso y Jose Gomez Aparicio).
(4) Cádiz. There was an adult at La Jara beach, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz, on 11.7 (Paco Chiclana).
(5) Huelva. On 19.7 an adult was seen at Odiel river mouth, Huelva (Jose Gomez Aparicio)
(6-7) Huelva. On 25.7 there were two adults at Juan Carlos I pier, Odiel marshes, Huelva (Alberto Savijn)
(8) Cádiz. On 27.7 there was an adult ringed in both legs at La Tapa saltpans, Cádiz (Rafael García Costales).
(9) Huelva. On 27.7 a different adult was seen at Doñana beach, Huelva (Carlos Gutiérrez Expósito)
(10) Cádiz. On 31.7 there was a different adult, white-fronted at La Tapa saltpans, Cádiz (Rafael García Costales).

Little Swift Apus affinis (1-8)
(1-8) Cádiz. There were 8 flying at Chipiona beaches on 3.7 (Paco Chiclana)

*** Ringed birds in Spain have to be submitted and accepted by CR/SEO-BirdLife, according to Environment Ministery of Spain and the authonomous communities agreements, to be accepted as valid ringings in the national database. Otherwise, non submitted or rejected records will be deleted and ringings will not be included in national or international databases. Ringers not submitting rare bird ringings will be listed. Submitting ringing records is hence specially encouraged as a contribution to global bird knowledge..

From March
2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation
by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records
committees. See here those rarities only for the
Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity
list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex,
Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus
richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included
from 2006.
Recent
reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are
both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail
lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else
than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded
to the Spanish RC for their knowledge if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does
not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind which needs a form to be sent. Gibraltar news are
included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society
but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this
area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors
of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with
a icon. We would welcome to receive
a spare copy of those journals using these news for commercial purposes.

needing homologation by the Spanish Rarities Committee are included. Reproduction
