Photos by Miguel Avelino From 3-7.5.2004 a dark phase Western Reef Heron Egretta gularis gularis was seen at charca de Maspalomas, a pond at Maspalomas area, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria island (Miguel Avelino Suares Farias, José García Monzón, Eugenio Santana). This bird is particularly similar to one seen at Delta de l'Ebre, Catalunya in august 2002 The photos show clearly the main structural features of the species, particularly bare parts structure and shape and presence of ornamental feathering. The record has been submitted via snail mail to the Spanish Rarities Committee All photos by © Miguel Avelino obtained through Kenko 20x50 telescope and Nikon Coolpix 4500.
